  1. Two days ago, my eldest son - who drives a diesel VW Cali - advised me that VW UK has fallen into line with Cambelt changes as they apply to VW diesels on the Continent and that the number of years by which a cambelt change is due, no longer applies. As my 2018 Skoda Superb is due a cambelt change at the 5 year point in November 2023, I decided to call Skoda UK Customer Services - today 2 August 2023 - and enquire as to whether they had any mileage change akin to the VW UK statement. After sometime on hold, their agent came back and advised that the 5 year rule has been discarded and my car - identified by the registration number - does not require a belt change until it has completed 140,000miles. As my car has only run 25,000 miles, this is good news indeed. Perhaps the more tech savvy guys out there can make this known to ALL Skoda Diesel owners who subscribe to Briskoda.net. I suggested to the Skoda agent that they should be telling us and not the other way round! Anyway, for those not aware of this change, I hope this information helps you save a few pounds?
  2. As Baverhanne says, try it before changing. I have a 2018 TDI 190 much the same as yours, but with DSG. The Superb is a great tow car - my Caravan is just about the same weight as yours, I have never had a problem. Keep the nose weight to around 80kgs, increase the rear tyre pressures to the fully loaded recommendation, and you will be well pleased with the result. Having towed with a variety of big caravans, with an equal variety of small, medium and big tow cars, the Superb tops the list for me. Mind you, I probably need a bit more towing experience - only been doing it since 1972 - a mere 48 years. Happy towing!
  3. Good to hear you are happy with your week ago purchase. Enjoy your ‘new’ car and many happy towing miles ahead of you. Best regards.
  4. I have been towing 48 years this year and had a wide variety of tow cars in that time. I have also been a Skoda fan for a decade and towed with two Yetis and an Octavia Estate. A year ago a got a very low mileage 2018 Superb SEL Exec, 190bhp, DSG and it is the best tow car I have ever had. The cruise control and DSG works like a dream and the Caravan is rock steady. The L&K that you are looking at looks a good buy - that model usually sells quickly, so get on with it if are interested. Phil Taylor at Horndean, Hampshire is where I have had my last three towers fitted - they really know what they are doing! Never had any overheating issues with any DSG Skoda - you won't need a cooling upgrade. Good luck - - let the guys on here know what you finally settle for? Best regards.
  5. Since 2001, I have had a Fabia VRS, Octavia Estate, three Yetis ( 170, 150, and a 1.2 petrol) and now a 2018 Superb SEL Exec 190 TDi. So, I have sampled quiet a few Skoda cars over two decades. My favourite - until buying the Superb a year ago - was the 170 Yeti in Elegance trim. Plenty of power, a good tow car and lovely brakes, with the bigger discs on the front. However, the Superb is in a class of its own. I cannot really fault this car, other than the P7 tyres which don't inspire confidence in the wet and are inclined to 'chatter' if you pull away too quickly. The slightly bigger engine gives it that extra get up and go without the loss of a decent MPG - 48+ around town, 32 when towing, and a recent trip solo down to Cornwall returned 58mpg. The brakes are just like the 170 Yeti - the car is very comfortable, quiet and a joy to own. Hope this helps?
  6. Very nice looking motor, and a colour that really suits it. Enjoy!
  7. My last three Skoda's - two Yetis and my current Superb - have all had towbars, with detachable towballs, fitted local to me.. None of these cars had the factory pre-towbar package installed. The fitting company, Phil Taylor Towbars at Horndean are the best of the best - guys come from all over the country to use their services. They will advise and fit whatever you want - everything works and they do the job in under one and a half hours. Have a look at their website or give them a call. You won't be disappointed - I should know - I've been towing caravans since 1972! There are some good fitters out there - word of mouth is always a good recommendation.
  8. Forget the dealership. I have had three detachable tow bars fitted by philtaylortowbars.co.uk at Horndean, Hampshire. The longest fit, including 13 pin electrics, coding, took 1 hr 20 mins. My fits were on two Yetis and one Superb. Very professional company - nothing is too much trouble. They are the best of the best - trust me - I've been towing Caravans since 1972 and it will be under £600 total, which includes VAT. POA. Give them a call - 02392 594675.
  9. Like we all do, tuned the radio in to all my/our favourite stations. Worked a treat - no problems. Went to the shops, locked the car, returned to the car and all the saved DAB channels had disappeared? Those set on FM were still there. Is there a known glitch?
  10. Having owned 3 Yetis between 2011 and 2019 - two diesels and one petrol - I moved to a 2018 Superb 2.0 TDi SEL Executive 190 DSG, just ten days ago. Formerly a Skoda Management car, eleven months old with a mere 3,470 on the clock, it had my name on it. Apart from giving it a good clean and having yet another towbar fit by Phil Taylor Towbars at Horndean, I have only done local running to date. So far, impressed by the extra comfort, quiet cabin and just how economical it appears to be.
  11. Have been an avid reader of this Forum for the last 8 years and have really enjoyed the willingness and knowledge that is always available. In those 8 years, I have enjoyed many miles in three Yetis - 2010 170 TDi Elegance, 2015 150 Euro 6 TDi SCR SEL DSG and, since February this year, a 1.2 TSi SEL Drive DSG. All great cars - the 170 had lovely brakes with the bigger front discs, but the panoramic sunroof is noisy. The 150 Euro 6 was quieter and, with the benefit of hindsight, I should never have sold it. The 1.2 TSi was a cracking little car, punching well above its weight - until you put a 1200kg Caravan on the back! It did it, but not like the effortless towability of the two former diesels. So, what next. Last Thursday I collected a November 2018 Superb H/B, 2.0 TDI SCR 190, SEL Executive, DSG with a mere 3,400 miles on the clock. The car had been run by Skoda Management and was just in need of a few hours TLC - after a weekend of just that, it looks like new. It will probably be my last purchase of a 'proper car' as age is progressing at a pace! Electric shopper after this? I used the services of Phil Taylor towbars - for the third time - last Friday, so our trusty Bailey Monarch will be happier being towed by something with a bit more muscle! My first impressions of the Superb - quite, plenty of power if you need it, very comfortable, too many 'toys', upgrade to the DSG are most welcome, and it is extremely economical for such a big car. In conclusion, a sincere thank you for allowing me to be with you on the Yeti Forum. I will now be the 'new kid on the block' over on the Superb Forum - but, I reckon I will be turning back the page to look at what you Guys are up to. I used 'Wizzle.com' as the seller site and I was getting offers within 20 minutes of posting my Yeti. Wizzle were really professional - the car was sold back to Skoda, Cambridge, inspected on my drive and the full price offered was in my bank account five minutes later. I sold it for £600 more than the local dealership were offering in part exchange. It is on the Skoda (Vindis) Cambridge website - it has only done 7,500 miles - -not 17,000 as shown over the weekend - and there is a Westfalia detachable hitch in the boot. Condition - immaculate.
  12. Regarding your towbar fit - I have used www.philtaylortowbars.co.uk who are based at Horndean, just north of Portsmouth. Phil runs a very professional business - he has fitted towbars, with detachable towball, to two of the three Yetis that I have owned. Tell him what you want, arrange a time and he will have it fitted, complete with electrics, in about 1hour and 20 minutes. You could even arrange to get it done on your way to catch the ferry! Hope this helps.
  13. If any Yeti diesel owner who lives in the Fareham/Gosport area and uses Adblue, I have a sealed 10litre plastic container of Adblue - now surplus to requirements having recently acquired a petrol Yeti. Just pm me - and it is yours for free on collection. Happy Easter.
  14. I had this problem on my first (2010) Yeti, although not as bad. With the compression produced in a diesel, brakes - especially the rear ones - are not used much when slowing down. I activated 'Coasting' in the settings menu and I then had to use the brakes more - and it helped clean the discs.
  15. Part-Ex'd my 2015 immaculate, unmarked Jungle Green 150 SEL DSG last Monday - now selling at Trans City Skoda, London, E17 - for a 2017 1.2 SEL DSG, very low mileage. Initial impression - nippy, very quiet and actually feels a 'lighter' Yeti to drive, having had two 4x4 Yetis in 170 - and Euro Six - 150 models previously. However, having enjoyed a selection of Sat Nav choices - Waze, Apple maps, Google maps - through Apple CarPlay for the last two years, I was totally unimpressed with the built-in Amundsen Sat Nav. Even though I installed the latest 2019/2020 update from the Skoda portal, I couldn't believe how user unfriendly it is to operate. Getting it to accept a postcode is a challenge! I drove back to Gosport after doing the part-exchange and used Waze through CarPlay - easy to input what you need and it provides a comprehensive description of exactly what is ahead of you - brilliant. If I had chosen the built-in device, I would still be at the Dealer! What a faff! I am sure others will disagree, but one man's meat is another man's poison. Finally, my thanks to Graham (Llanigraham) for his 15 point post on how you generate a postcode on the Amundsen.
