  1. MAD auxillary springs work for me, fully loaded and towing a trailer.
  2. All depends on what you want doesn’t it 😀 Sometimes you just don’t need what they’re selling.
  3. I’m pretty sure 16’s will be adequate in another 2yrs. Though I just got my motorcycle license with my eye on this for outback jaunts https://www.kawasaki.com.au/en-au/motorcycle/versys/adventure-touring/versys-x-300
  4. And that is a large part of why I want sidewall.
  5. I was running 225/50r17 for two years. The front was a little tight, but clear. Only just went to 215/50r17. The 225/55r16 are 2mm less in diameter than the 225/50r17
  6. I would like some 16” Audi wheels, then I can put some 225/55r16 on. so much sidewall like riding on clouds 💕 ☁️☁️☁️☁️💕
  7. Update. I got it back yesterday evening, haven’t driven at night yet, but my confidence is low. The lights are still dancing. They seem higher when the dance stops (against a wall) HOWEVER…. the high beam was really high up. when I picked it up, they said it was sorted, an adjustment at the back and they proudly informed me that they “managed to get a bit more at the front!” me: “oh no, they are speed sensitive and raise higher at speed” mechanic: “oh, ri…, 🤔 oh. …See how it goes.” I think I might just ask the Skoda garage to fix it 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
  8. I had some MAD auxillary springs installed. Which I’m pretty happy with. However, my self levelling lights stopped working. Still doing the start up dance, but pointing very low. I took the car back to the installers and asked them to check the sensor connector. They had a look, it had come apart, so they took it all out, snapped it together firmly, and put it back. I didn’t drive at night for 2 weeks, then regrettably discovered my lights are still pointing low, and when I speed up, they don’t get higher (which they used to do. I tried, using MFD, to factory reset and switch to travel mode, with no effect. The lights moved sideways, but not up. It’s going back to the mechanic in the morning. Does anybody have any suggestions, other than connector might have come apart again? Is there a VCDS reset requirement? The spring installer is not a VW specialist and may not have the tool.
  9. @Andy9-5 it is. But I’m pretty sure recommended is not relevant when I’m using non-standard tyre sizes. And @36psi I found the 225/50r17 was wearing on the edges, suggesting under-inflation. the 215/50 looks a little under-inflated @36psi too. It handles fine at @38psi 🤷🏼‍♂️
  10. Nice to hear, as I’ve just gone Kumho pa51 all round 👍🏻
  11. Update: put new tyres on the rear today. The “clunk” between 1st and 2nd has gone. So a 3.5mm difference in tyre wall height between front and rear was noticeable by the Haldex. Certainly has me wondering about the 4% tolerance. My difference was 1.5% and the clunk was quite noticeable - unless going around a corner when the gear change was made. Also the road noise has definitely decreased with all 4 new tyres. So, much of the noise must have been resonating from the rear 🤔 might slip some foam pieces into the cavity above the wheel arches.
  12. @Andy9-5 2.0 125kw diesel 4x4 I find running lower than 36psi has the front tyres wearing on the edges rather than evenly. @Carlston thanks.
  13. Ended up putting the 215/50’s on the front. I can’t really tell if there has been an increase or decrease in road noise, so better tyres and loss of sidewall probably even out (or the Pace pc10 is really good value) Bought Kuhmo Ectsa pa51. Not really sure what pressure to run - trying 38psi but may bump it up to 40psi. 400km round trip on terrible country roads, while towing a trailer, they rode just fine. Another 200km today with no trailer and very happy, pushed it through some twisties in pursuit of a beemer. I like my car. There is a bit of a clunk in the rear when going from 1st - 2nd - but not in any other gears - that I had not noticed previously. Hoping it’s nothing serious, might hurry up the purchase of 2 more 215/50’s
  14. Mine runs cleanly into the ABS plug on both sides. Only one cable feeding into the wheel well.
  15. Decided to do my front brakes today. Bought the pads, slipped off wheel one, old pads out, new pads in, next wheel, pads out, new pa…. Wtf?!?! New pad has a sensor cable! Double check old pads, nope! No sensor. Get head into wheel well, no sensor plug. Furrrrrrrrk! Old pads in. Wheel on. Back to first wheel, off, head in wheel well. No sensor. On phone to parts. What have you given me? “All our pads for your vehicle have sensor cables.” On phone to Skoda parts. “Yes, your car has brake sensors” ”No it effn doesn’t, do you have pads without a sensor?” ”No, all our pads have sensors, you must have after market pads” Have I missed something somewhere? Skoda had serviced the car, up and until it’s last service. I’ve just clipped off the sensor wire 🤷🏼‍♂️
  16. I went from 225/40r18 to 225/50r17 in effort to reduce road noise. It was a 3% change up in size, the fit is a little tight in the front. The speed is now 100% accurate according to my gps (and roadside speed cameras apparently 😈) I’ve been looking at 215/50r17’s but I’m now not 100% convinced about losing 5mm of side wall. The difference between 17 and 18 is incredible. Soooo serene. I used Pace PC10’s as they were the cheapest I could find for the experiment. That tyre has impressed me. 30k km, I’ve driven in snow/slush, flooded roads and 40+ deg Centigrade in the past 18months. I’m on the hunt for some 16’s to put AT tyres on now for outback holidays. Absolutely would not go back to 18’s.
  17. Mines a Trailboss, even though the cap Hayman Reese
  18. I’m reading on other forums Haldex won’t be affected by under 4% differences 🧐🤔
  19. Heya all. so I have 1 rear tyre that needs replacing. It’s worn on the outside quite substantially. The other side does not have the same issue. The 3 good tyres have about 50% tread. I’m ok with replacing both rears and getting an alignment done. At the same time I will get some MAD auxiliary springs I bought, installed anyway. What I’m curious about is I currently run 225/50r17 all round. The fit is a bit tight, especially at the front and I want to go to 215/50r17. Could I run the decent 225’s on the front for another 10k kms and have 215’s on the rear for that time? The size difference is about 1.5% (new) but the 225’s are worn, so difference would be closer. Also as the larger tyres would be on the front. The Haldex won’t register them as slipping (I would think) until they actually do. Unlike having smaller mismatch in the front. what does the brains trust think? I’m not keen on replacing all 4 just yet, even though they were cheapies, bought to test whether the smaller rim larger tyre combo would reduce road noise. And yes it made an enormous improvement. I’m about to buy some 16’s for running some AT tyres for an outback trip.
  20. Replaced the part - thermostat beside the DSG. Took about 60min. Easy to install, Barely lost any coolant. Problem solved. Wanted the part fast so ordered from VW. $85aud
  21. I love this guy when it comes to cars….
  22. Just recently, my temperature guage has started to show varying temperatures. Prevoiusly, the car used to warm to 90deg and that was it. Hot or cold, it warmed to 90 and stayed constant. In extreme heat 40deg+ the oil temp would rise (113 was the highest I saw), but the temp guage sat at constant 90. I first noticed it on a trip to the Australian snowfields after about 20mins the temp guage had barely reached 60. The guage seems to be reading roughly the same as the oil temp. The car heater seems to be working just fine. Around town the guage seems to hit 90 and pretty much stay. if I work the engine hard the temp will rise, but then drop. it seems to be highway trips in cooler temps. This may not be unusual, but it would be nice to hear from those in cooler climates. im a little concerned my thermostat could be stuck wide open.
