Mastercard please read my post on 8th February then you will see about Volvo damper- it fits onto the rear beam of the axle. Also from your photo you have an estate don't you? My car is a hatch/saloon so boot buffer is different and I do not know if it is adjustable sorry.

Lanoguard is what the coating is called- based on what sheep have in their wool to keep them dry - not sheep fat lol- I did mine 3 years ago - it is not cheap but miles better than waxoyl which I used to use and I keep it topped up every year- takes me about ten minutes using my friendly mechanics car lift. Hi Corcaig the damper I fitted is completely removable- I did fit it with atainless steel fittings and locking nuts so it would never loosen by itself- I have had several mot tests and nothing was said. My boot stopper looks almost the same as yours. I did fit new ones which were an improved design- I don't remember if I adjusted them or not as it was a few years ago- can you push yours inwards- takes some force but mine do move. Best wins I found for noise harshness reduction were torsion beam Volvo damper, lots of soundproofing in spare wheel well- if you have no spare wheel I didn't so I bought one and the fitting kit for it plus a boot rubber liner and finally spraying insulating foam in the drivers side roof pillar- not easy but a good result

I like the car- only has 32k on the clock, spotless underneath and will run it into the ground like all my cars, one small section of road is not putting me off enough to spend more money on a different car thanks

Both - used to hurt my ears now much more tollerable- there is one particular part of road I travel back along every day from work which has lots of undulations and if I drive over them below 30mph the sound of the rear suspension going up and down reverberates through the entire car- I'm hoping the B4 Bilstein shock absorbers eliminate or at least reduce this- never had such a boomy/uncomfortable suspension car in my life! To tolerate this car has taken a lot of time, money and effort- at last count its cost me £670 for all the parts- Inc shocks not yet fitted and not including 4 Goodyear all season tyres- which didn't make any difference that I could tell

Yes I did notice a difference when I fitted it- it was 2 or 3 years ago now. If you look back at this thread I posted details of all the mods I have done- only one more thing to do for me is have my Bilstein B4 front and rear dampers fitted- were scheduled for last summer but my mechanic was too busy so definitely fitting them this summer- I can fit rears myself. Top tip if replacing front dampers always fit a new fixing bolt as the old bolts can stretch and the new ones have factory loctite on the thread- if you reuse the old bolts they will come loose- I have seen it happen!

I have a 2015 1.4tsi with the solid beam rear axle. Well after the dieselgate saga nothing surprises me- for fun I fill up every now and then with Premium unleaded as these engines love that stuff 😄

Skoda quote the Octavia 1.4tsi having 140bhp- no way is this right. Having erm followed a one year old Range Rover Evoque P300 who was trying hard to accelerate away from me I kept up with him quite surprisingly- yet the figures say his car accelerates around a second faster to 60mph.

What size engine is it? I have a 1.4 tsi 2015 and I really like the smoothness and acceleration - amazing for such a small engine😀

Di Greenio thats great news. I replaced my boot stoppers with the modified Skoda replacement ones which made a difference to the sound of the boot closing- sounded much more solid but I didnt notice any other difference. Im looking forward to having the Bilstein shocks fitted front and back next spring which from what I have read will make a big difference- fingers crossed lol.

Fairly sure its coming from suspension as the noise becomes excessive when I drive over a specific part of road slowly which has lots of small undulations in it- if I drive over the same part of the road at higher speed the noise lessens considerably. I have new Bilstein shocks to fit next spring - I believe Sachs shocks are oil filled and Bilstein are gas filled - correct me if I am wrong? Maybe these new shocks will make some difference. Joking apart but the design of these cars and the reduction in sound deadening, light panels etc is the problem which wont ultimately go away even with copious amounts of sound deadening hence the mk4 which is a new platform with lots of modifications to improve noises and it is a much better car in this respect.

I was going to throw these rolls of jute in the tip but thought I would see if I could have a quiet drive this winter instead by leaving them in the boot lol

I have been using Goodyear all seasons fot two years now and can highly recommend them. I have had the Michelin all seasons on my previous car and they were good then but the Goodyears are better in my opinion.

I am currently testing a new solution to the noise produced by these cars- see photo attached

I have reduced the noise but not completely eliminated it. I have posted some time ago regarding what I have done which you will find if you do a search. My next improvement will be replacing the original Sachs oil filled shock absorbers front and rear for Bilstein gas shocks next spring- current front ones have slight weap which was advisory on mot just recently so need replacing.

Yes thats what I found so perhaps they were rear dust caps fitted on by a previous owner then.

Does the front wheel have a dust cap over the central fixing bolt? I cannot find a part number for the front just the rear. I had new discs fitted and beforehand there was a metal flat cover in the centre of the hub and now I can see the bolt head- just wondering if the metal cover had been fitted by a previous owner?

Yep thats about right- they are long life plugs so you wont need any again for another 40,000 miles 👍

I just did this Glenn- hazards on, hold down 00 button, turn ignition on then release 00 button and immediately press left button. Switch off hazards and turn off ignition. Thats it done. I wrote this to help everyone as I tried following what had been written and it was not clear.
