  1. Thats good to know Dave. Im going on a long trip in a weeks time so i will use eco mode and see what difference it makes if any.
  2. I dont have cruise control and i didnt use economy mode- on the journey down i.e first 100 miles without aircon switched on i got 60.1mpg - mixed roads and speeds.
  3. Recently covered 200 mile journey with two adults and a gearbox in the boot and aircon for half the journey- achieved 57.4mpg without trying - is this good or normal for this car?
  4. Dave the Android carplay worked with my previous Motorola fine. Partnumber is as shown in photo
  5. I also am having bluetooth issues- new Motorola G50 connects to the car and i can use the handsfree. What i cannot do however is use Android Auto- my car is the basic Audio system 2015Octavia SE. Ive checked that the phone is completely up to date and i was told at Skoda garage that the Audio system is up to date so now im stuck- i find the Android Auto useful for maps when it worked so would be good to sort this out.
  6. There are one or two bargains out there if you look hard enough. Just bought my wife a 2014 Skoda Fabia estate 1.2tsi 105bhp with full service history, 51k miles all matching Hankook tyres with loads of tread left ยฃ3.5k from a private seller- rear bumper has scratches and one of the alloys is scruffy- got a replacement in mint condition for ยฃ40 and just getting quote for scratches- should be around ยฃ150 - looking around at dealer prices same car is ยฃ5200 plus and i doubt they'd be as nice as this one- even mot history is very good.
  7. Oh dear not very encouraging news that, i will get the Bilstein B4 shocks fir the rear and see if that helps.
  8. So are there any springs that are standard height which are softer to go with Bilstein B4 dampers is my question now? I notice the sport springs are lower but also "progressive" - i think its the progressive that makes the biggest difference as it will be softer to begin with going over bumps and then stiffen up- i have progressive springs on my British TR6 sports car and they massively improved the ride. I wonder if there are standard height progressive springs available- who would know this?
  9. No i havent- but having just looked there doesnt appear to be any for the standard beam suspension that is fitted on my car so will carry on looking fir springs for Bilstein B4 shocks.
  10. Thanks for the info Diesel, i have boot noise reducing pads, spare wheel, rubber boot mat and i have a Volvo harmonic damper on the central beam and two bmw harmonic dampers on each arm so all thats left to do is find better shocks and springs- i dont fancy increasing the ride height just the comfort level and noise reduction so looks like Bilstein B4 shocks but dont know which springs to go with them yet?
  11. Ive just been looking through a huge blog in VW forum regarding Golf mk7 rear shocks and the options vary but a common view is that Bilstein B4 shocks reduce noise, one person chaged to B4 and VWr springs whatever they are and reported no noise after.
  12. I find the ride over country roads a little hard and feel the standard fit shock absorbers are the cause plus they seem to contribute to the droning i hear. Ive been in a VW Golf mk7 which doesnt appear to have this problem- can i fit the Golf shocks to my Octavia or is there someone who knows which shocks work best?
  13. Thanks Dave i will contact a Skoda dealer to see if they can fit this as i miss not having it especially on motorways๐Ÿ‘
  14. Thank you i think i will leave it. Is it easy to add cruise control then?
  15. I did wonder if there was any wiring harness to attach to. Thank you
  16. Can I change my plain 4 spoke steering wheel to the 3 spoke and use the audio controls on the actual wheel or not? If I can use them how easy or difficult is this to do?
  17. So yesterday i fitted my new Bosch Double Platinum spark plugs. Old ones looked to me to be originals from when car was new- see photo. Im pleased to say that the slight misfire/hesitation has completely gone and car feels slightly livelier and engine is definitely quieter and smoother. So as i suspected this car did not have a service when we bought it and taking it to a Skoda dealer for a check over to find out what was causing hesitation/misfire at a cost of ยฃ65 and being told it was fine had been a waste of time and money- lesson learnt check car and service it myself - get hard jobs done by an independent trusted mechanic as i have done for past 15 years too๐Ÿ‘
  18. Each to their own. I only do around 12,000 miles in my own car but used to do anywhere around 18 to 25 thousand plus, I had an original Mini 1000 and changed the oil every 3 months on that for 18 months- it was the quietest smoothest Mini I have ever known- no tappet rattles and no engine problems. I had a Citroen 1.6hdi with the known design problem now of oil blocking the turbo feed pipe - because it was actually too small by design after the Ford engineers messed about with it- anyway I never had any problems with that terrible engine and that car was sold to a friend of mine with 139k on the clock- i warned him to change the oil regularly but its not my problem now its down to him- in my experience yes modern cars are capable of large mileages and to be fair stuck in top gear on a motorway is not going to stress or wear an engine out its the stop start speeding up and down in town thats worst or short journeys isnt it?
  19. Maybe not but was recommended over the oil dealers use- im ocd on oil changes and have never gone by manufacturers recommendations interval wise- ive always changed at 6000 intervals no matter- its not expensive and in 33 years driving ive never had an engine failure or big bill- or ive veen lucky haha๐Ÿ‘
  20. Yes i should have said, anyway heres a photo of what was recommended by a garage that has seen a reduction in oil usage and less gunge since using this๐Ÿ‘
  21. I was recommended a better oil than the Skoda/VW dealers/companies use which helps keep the engine from gunking up apparently- i would also say that some people have done well over 100,000 miles without this gunking problem so perhaps its not as bad as has been reported- plus the hybrid Skoda and VW cars still use this engine and not the 1.5tsi so perhaps it was/is the best engine??
  22. Thanks for that- i bought my 5 year old MK3 last August with 15,000 miles on from a Ford dealer and it had only had one service at a Skoda dealer prior at around 2 years so clearly no new plugs fitted- i will get some NGK at the weekend as im sure its slightly missfiring- i even paid a Skoda dealer to give it a health check and they said everything was fine? After i have changed the plugs i will report back on here if there is any difference- the Skoda dealer did point out about the cambelt but i had two different stories on two separate visits to them on that too! Needless to say i do not rate my local dealer at all sadly so will service my car myself and get the difficult stuff done at a trustworthy independent garage.
  23. Is it 40,000 miles or 5 years like with cambelt???
  24. How easy was this to do Jordy, any photos of what you did or how they look now, did it make the ride firmer?
