  1. Funny thats almost exactly what happened to me- pulled away at a roundabout and pop and no power lol
  2. I thought so. I have replaced a turbo on my own car years ago and forgot to tighten the boost pipe so knew straight away what it was lol😂
  3. Yes the main dealer should definitely sort it- mistakes happen as we are all human 👍
  4. It sounds like the turbo boost pipe has popped off- very common on turbo cars- easy fix if it has just need to push back on and then tighten the pipe clamp👍 You will be able to see this easily too if you lift the bonnet 👍
  5. I think 160k is probably for life, this was from my car details submitted by dealer on their computer.
  6. Just a little bit of info. I posted on this forum that I was told two different stories regarding cam belt change- first at 160,000 miles , now I am being told its after 5 years. Well see a photo below of the printout I asked for at the time for evidence I was not making this up!
  7. You could be right- every penny saved on each car adds up to potentially millions further along. I do find that buying direct from the manufacturer will give the longest life of any part too.
  8. I would have expected to change a cambelt too if the car had done 100,000 miles to be fair 👍. I previously had a Citroen C5 1.6hdi and cambelt change was either 100k or 10 years whichever came sooner- at 10 years belt still looked new and that was a diesel quite surprisingly, my father had his Fabia cambelt changed after 5 years and it looked like new too .
  9. Can you ask why the timing belt was changed after such a short time??
  10. So in conclusion all VW, Skoda and Seat dealers here in the UK are ripping customers off by telling them that the timing belt needs changing every 5 years on engines that have a belt for life- no wonder its called rip off Britain. Wonder when anyone is going to wake up to the scrappage scandal next- I forget what year now but I wanted to buy a car for my wife that year- before scrappage car was £6k cash- Citroen C1, a few months later that same year and scrappage had started that same car was priced at £9k-- literally a few months later- every dealership in the UK ripped off the UK govt and when questioned about the price increase they blamed it on higher import pricing from the continent- oh really- what utter bull! Needless to say I did not buy a car with a 50 percent increase in price after just a few months.
  11. Whats the mileage on it? The X trails are a nice car I nearly bought one years ago. Has it got a good service history?
  12. Whats the semi banger diesel you are getting?
  13. Thats funny we have a Fabia too- though older than yours as its a 2013 bought privately a few months ago for far less than any dealer have been asking this year and even WBAC will give us £500 more than we paid for it. On our Fabia I have stuffed loads of carpet off cuts and underlay from our new hallway under the floor carpet and spare wheel well and copied the Octavia door twin sealing - bought material from ebay and this has transformed the car massively- can drive distances on the motorway now without wanting to get out and walk! My father has the same Fabia as you and doesnt like it having had the old school Fabia which was much better made- he says Skoda have cheapened the whole car and he would love to get another of the old models again.
  14. Well from my observations I can get back what I paid for my car after using it for a year but to change to a slightly newer model its nearly £4k more, the same upgrade last year was £2k - but it all depends what your looking to change to- cars are what I call an evil necessity for work where I live due to pathetic public transport. Will we own them in the future when the prices for electric cars seem to be going higher and higher- one thing for sure I will be the last person on the planet to go electric as I run all my cars into the ground- last one I had for 6 years only cost me £2500 in terms of repairs and actual car cost-brilliant Citroen C5 which I really miss actually especially the comfortable ride- my 2015 Octavia has the most noise vibration harshness from the suspension I ever experienced on any car- I spent £500 on all sorts of tech to make the car liveable but I wish I bought the newer model which is why I notice the price differences.
  15. Its not the depreciation you should be looking at- its the highly inflated prices to change the car- you are no better off really at all.
  16. Im surprised the Japanese car manufacturers sell as many cars as they do- has no nobody looked at the interiors and the hard plastics all over? I have not seen one Japanese car with a nice interior even the switches on some were awful and what is it with the exterior weird shapes of the latest Honda Civic- my word thats a very ugly car!
  17. Well its a good thing we are all different or else the world would be a boring place 👍.
  18. No no no thrum its awful why not just buy a Trabant then if thats what you like you can have all the thrum you want in one of those lol
  19. I have driven cars with 140bhp and this Octavia is definitely much more powerful than those cars were. My road tax is only £30 because its 140bhp- if it was officially a higher bhp then road tax would be considerably more- VW emissions scandal mk2? Your right about rolling roads- no two are the same lol! My wife has the 1.2Tsi 105bhp in her Fabia, my father has the 1.2 16valve 110bhp newer engine- his is gutless on acceleration in fact its miles apart- you have to really rev it hard which isnt pleasant as its a coarse noisy engine when revved like that- I prefer my wifes simpler torquier engine which pulls away much better. Not a fan of 3 cylinders would rather have 4 or 6 - like my Mercedes R129 SL and Triumph TR6 - gorgeous sounding classic engines which will be missed by future generations sadly ahhh I digress.
  20. I did a 350mile trip recently, 2 adults and a small amount of luggage- averaged 59.1mpg- and I didnt try to be economical in my 1.4Tsi 2015 Octavia- still only got 19500 miles on it too! You do know that although rated at 140bhp these are rather low figures as some people have had them tested on a rolling road and got a reading of 168bhp!
  21. I did a 350mile trip recently, 2 adults and a small amount of luggage- averaged 59.1mpg- and I didnt try to be economical in my 1.4Tsi 2015 Octavia- still only git 19500 miles on it too!
  22. I had a VW Touran 2005 2.0TDi from brand new it used oil at around 1.0 litre every 1k and was told by dealer oh yes they do use oil like that- sold it after a year and only 10 years later am I trying a VAG engined car again- Skoda 1.4TSi which after a year has not needed a top up of the oil👍
  23. My 2015 1.4TSi Octavia (bought August 2020)had been sat around at the dealers for at least 6months and prior to that it had been hardly driven for a year. The stop start after about a month started playing up and I thought that I would put a new battery on as it still had the 5 year old original one on it. New battery fitted- I looked on this forum and it was recommended to fit a bigger AH so I did. Stop start works perfect now ever since 👍Though I am not a fan of when engine restarts you have to give it time (as its not quite the same as pulling away with an engine that was already running)- this is common apparently on most stop start systems- even my friends new Mercedes C Class isnt smooth! Within 6 years you can take a car back to a dealer now- within 6 months if you had a fault and they fail to fix it first time you are entitled to a refund Consumer Rights Act 2015 - I have just exercised this Right on my daughters 2016 Ford Fiesta automatic which dealer has failed to fix or even properly diagnose the faulty gearbox! Fully refunded and now the stress of finding another car from a different dealer🤔 I should have gone back with my Skoda about the battery but I didnt know about this Consumer Rights then plus I needed the car for work so no time to faff about taking it to a dealer and borrowing another car etc!
  24. So Android Auto has recently been updated to become included into Google maps. What Skoda Octavia infotainment systems will be updated to amd will they work with Octavia MK3?
  25. This was written in 2017- how ironic about the strange flu! I too had this flu and now look what we have! I lost my sense of smell and taste that year and still to this day have no sense of smell- i tell people i was a guinea pig for Covid long before it was released- bizarre so very bizarre!
