  1. Would appreciate users opinions here. I want to get an OBD device to read and clear faults that are associated with the engine management light mainly to see if I need to take them seriously or not! Never want to code anything, but if there are simple setting changes, which I may be interested in, I would perhaps like that option. At the same time I am worried that if I activate something and then change my mind I could (m)uck things up! I have a 2016 L&K if that helps in your suggestions but which device should I go for. Oh should have said want to spend less than £100. Many thanks
  2. Just following up as promised . My MKIII passed its MOT today with not even a single advisory .... very happy but at same time angry with the main dealer and this needs a complaint to Skoda UK . Really hope no one else here is treats by their Skoda main dealer in the same way .
  3. Uncanny had pretty much same issue with having to replace battery but engine light was already on which I believed was caused by car stalling after only just getting started. So on Thursday had to take my car for MOT runs out on Monday at dealer and thought nothing of the engine light assuming they would just clear it and everything goes away. How wrong could I be . Got call from dealer a couple of hours later saying cannot clear the error messages including most of those listed above but repeated here for other to refer to U112300 Data bus signal reception P067400 Glow plug cyl 4 defective P05A000 Radiator blind component stuck open U042800 steering wheel angle sensor signal improbable P003000 O2 sensor heated circuit bank1 sensor 1 open circuit P060600 Control unit component defective Dealer informs me with new stricter rules light on is auto MOT failure - which I believe is true. Only suggestions from dealer 1) replace the fault units including the ECU best they could do £2,300 or trade in my MK3 for a good deal Took my Mk3 away and decided on off chance to go to small independent garage. Did the OBD check for me and they ALL cleared . They drove my car for 3 miles and they stayed off. Fingers crossed going back to them for the MOT on Wednesday . Hope this helps other possibly avoiding similar fate to me of possibly spending £2,300 for no reason as would never know if I simply let the dealer do what they said required. Ok so my car could fail its MOT on Wednesday for this or other reason - issue with misty shock for one example that Skoda have passed last 2 years to avoid it being a warranty replacement. Now out of warranty 106K. Also saw lights may take a couple of days to come back on as system resets. No idea but not driving car again until taking it to the garage on Wednesday for the MOT. Will let folks know !
  4. UNBELIVABLE. made more so with HOZZ saying he had his battery replaced after 4 years 11 months under warranty. because I complained about my battery for a while before the 100,000 extended warranty. The dealer put the battery on charge for me and said it was ok! that was November. In February in the cold spell I stopped at a petrol station and it would not start. Got home with a jump start and had Halfords replace the battery . Chap said battery was 0%. Car run smoothly since then but of course I had to pay as car now at 104,000 miles and out of warranty. So today the saga of the Engine Management light. I was given a quote for all the things needed including the defective unit for over £2K and of course it will be an MOT failure per new rules if not sorted. Cannot afford the £2K right now and was suggested I consider trading in. I decided to take car away and have a think with MOT ending MONDAY. Decided to take to a local garage and persuaded them to run the codes , clear them and see what happens. They did all that took the car for a 3 mile test drive and guess what? Yup no Engine Management light . I feel sick and this will be a divorce for me with the Skoda main dealer I am afraid. I have lost total trust. Clearly they did not clear the errors and see what came back. The errors likely came up when the battery failed and the new battery would not raise the faults.
  5. Timing is everything . Just took my 5 year old 16 plate 106K miles for pre MOT check and it is going to FAIL. BIG Issue the EMU Light is constantly on ORANGE Dealer cannot eliminate the light with a range of POSSIBLE problems Cost to replace the EMU £1,200 for the PART plus labour on top, but then do not know which of the errors showing still need doing or not estimate another £800 is all of them for parts. What should I do? Any sensible ideas much appreciated as got 4 days to MOT runs out Oh to keep the list going issues with car in its entire history Window chrome trims keep coming out - fixed once before Passenger door handle repaired once now broken part and the handle is £200 due to the key sensor EMU enough said light been on before and has gone off without any action Rear washer failed - fixed and again not working well Battery - yes this eventually went in February and I suspect the cause of the EMU light coming on when in car would stalled just after starting in the cold snap Front shock absorber excess grease / misting - another past MOT advisory and not covered when under warranty BUT that is it. LOVE my car but can't afford £2K+ right now to repair.
  6. Don’t know what happened here but trying again. Took my MkIII for a spin yesterday after leaving dormant for a week. Already had slow turnover worries but it started first time if a bit weary. Bombed down the motorway in 5th for about 10 miles and then stopped for a fill up. Went to start after paying and nothing ☹️ . Hour later got jump and took it home. Would have thought the journey would have charged and not drained the battery 🤔
  7. All, not posted for a while probably because by 2016 MK III 105,000 mile Superb has been going great and I have stopped commuting to work for 6 months ! I have however had the orange engine management light on for a little while with no obvious issue other than the car no longer likes starting on cold mornings. Took car into dealership and they put the battery on charge but said the orange fault light comes up as the ECU. Without any further info to go on, the dealership says they would have to replace the ECU. They have no experience of an ECU fault before. Well the cost of ECU itself is only £1,100 ( I think plus VAT) . So without any obvious problem with the car I declined the offer of a replacement. Thoughts please .... thank you.
  8. Looks like I’ve not done so well but still good me thinks
  9. Funny but i now tend to do the opposite with my auto . When going down hill I tend to tap the accelerator and lift off putting the car into coasting . This way I avoid the automatic over revving issue. I think using brakes at the end more economical and better for the engine and car on the whole . Quote just now to replace all pads and brakes less than £140 or the cost of one tyre . Can’t be bad or am I dreaming ?🤔
  10. Have to say what a car . I have ignored two suggestions by the dealership to replace my pads as only 40% and 25% left and now I get a warning light. Don’t know how many miles I’ve got left but I will now replace them . I love my superb
  11. Thank BS contributors.. My Start Button also appears to be failing. I thought it was just me but deffo getting slowly worse and worried I will be stuck soon. I happen to have a service tomorrow and tried to ring ahead to pre-warn, but I guess to short notice. Oh my S3 now done 71K and only other problems 1) chrome strips above doors - kept getting loose and lost one after my old dealer said they fixed it. New dealer had fixed under warranty 2) orange engine warning light - problem with ignition coil - fixed under warranty Great car - best ever ! Current best MPG on a single commute to / from work 80.1 Long Term average 52.5mpg
  12. Thank you, for your full reply. dont recall having got a clear answer last time. car came day one with squiffy steering wheel and had planned for it to be done at first service but dealer ran out of time and forgot. Second time it was, booked,to be done I convinced them that actually service not required At 20k but 30k under variable. But now I could say why not under warranty but doubt they will accept it and lastly not paying 89 for wheel alignment when wheels I believe perfectly aligned and just steering wheel squiffy. Annoying but liveable , just. thansk simon
  13. Hi does any one know if possible to recentre the steering wheel on an S3 WITHOUT doing a full wheel alignment? Just that is what My Skoda service dealer is saying to me. I was thinking possible to unbolt form say below air bag unit and just realign that way. I believe my wheel aligned ok based on lack of uneven tyre wear. thanks simon
  14. Embarrassed since for hat ever reason the driving aids all got reset to,factory default setting so,blind spot was turned off along with rear proximity sensor . Sorry
  15. My favourite safety device in my Superb has stopped working. The orange warning lights have gone out in the side mirrors. BUT I am getting the Same symbol now showing intermittently on the dash board alternating with the resettable trip counter for miles driven. any idea of likely cause can't find anything in the handbook for the warning symbol in the dash if that is what it is. thanks
  16. Just wondering if others having same issue as me. I use CarPlay to listen to audible books and everyday after almost precisely an hour the CarPlay stops with unrecognised device. Only option is pull out iPhone lead and replace . Second time around CarPlay only then last 10mins and then 5 mins. Getting quite annoying now. thoughts? thanks simon
  17. Just checking for your thoughts. Max Dot on my S3 150 indicating need another oil change in 1K and checks or about 18k miles since new. Had the first 10k oil change and was not expecting another for a further 18k miles not 8k miles. I drive 80 miles a day on motorway so pretty gentle driving. Something wrong or I misunderstood? Oh sure car was set on variable servicing.
  18. Thanks all, just want to say have no,evidence that wheels on the road are not set up right just the wheel in the car! Therefore going to save myself £89 quid and live with the steering wheel 15oC off to the left. Simon
  19. Can someone tell me how hard is it to centre the steering wheel on the S3? Mine came out by a couple of cms to the left. Waited until first 10k oil change and booked it in with my local dealer to fix. Had car all day and not done saying take 1.5 hours to align the wheels at a cost of £89 And they ran out of time. Car back with me and a little peeved. On basis they **** up the wheel alignment probably not bother doing it now. What happened to the days of simply unscrewing the steering wheel centring it and off you go. Ok yes I know airbag in the way but surely can still get wheel off without touching the wheel alignment??? Thanks for your thoughts
  20. Coming up to 10k and booked in first service. Thought it was just oil change but ends up being mini service. Anyway just wanted to say love my S3 150 L&K hatch in petrol blue and beige. Seems I was v.lucky as bought through NCD, not a rattle or squeak, no significant problems at all so far, perhaps the car play needs an upgrade as after an hour it will disconnect on its own and a reconnect last only a short time, but can live with that. Even think the slightly higher profile have saved from any small kerb accidents. My s2 just needed to see a kerb and it would leap out and catch it. Overall mpg 55 After initial hesitation I,pretty much live by ACC only thing is it leave bigger gaps on motorway than I would keep and folks love to jump in them resulting in a little sudden breaking but liveable and does feel safe.
  21. I know this is not a physical measurement but the Maxi Dot should at least give you a relative indication that you can compare against. Now at 6k miles and latest long term avg consumption 99 hours driving was 55.5mpg in 150 DSG Hatch
  22. Ahhh oh well I did not recognise a difference between ACC and traffic jam assistant. The ACC is pretty amazing as I said put it on when hit motorway and it only comes off when I brake on the slip road to leave otherwise it will just carry on going unless someone in front of me has to stop! Can be a little scary for a couple of things, first if you don't actively steer yourself it will eventually assume you are asleep and hit the breaks with a quick on off and that will wake you up. The other is when you get cut up by others switching lanes into your faster movi lane. I have yet to brace enough to see if the system will actually react enough in time especially if they one just edge in half way so not clearly a whole car in front of you. It is deffo worth having and personally think anyone you can afford the DSG and chooses the relic of a manual gearbox Is really missing out .
