  1. Yes it did survived. A mile did no damage to it. Plus the oil was still coming out of the sump when I arrived at my residence. So probably there was still oil in the system which kept it going till I made it. Thank you all for your valuable input.
  2. Finally the issue resolved. The sump was replaced with a new one and the reason why dipstick was dry is because it was pushed upside as the puncture was right below the dipstick area. Broken parts of the sump prevented dipstick to go down to its full depth. For reference I am attaching a pic of punctured sump. Once the sump was replaced and oil was filled, dipstick showed the reading as it was supposed to.
  3. I will be opening the sump and analysing the damage today but is there a do tell sign which clearly says that Big end and mains bearings have gone. Because I started the engine one more time for few minutes at idling after filling oil and I couldn't hear anything unusual other than normal engine noise and vibrations. Just a little louder like the engine does in the morning start when its ripped of oil for few seconds. Please guide me if you know anyway to analyse the Big/Main bearings.
  4. I encountered a problem with my Octy(Skoda Octavia Mk1 2004 1.9TDI) when my sump was damaged due to bad road conditions. I stopped for a while and then continued for a mile to reach my residence. On the way oil pressure lamp lit (Red Oil Sign). After arriving at my destination I patched the whole in the sump temporarily with a Car patch and then filled engine oil after letting it cool down for a while. My query is even though I poured around 4 litres of oil, the dipstick is still dry as it can be. The engine is still running with a little bit noise than it usually does. When trying to analyse the issue, the oil pressure sign again lit. I checked for the leakage but couldn't find any. Checked Coolant reservoir tank for oil and couldn't find any presence of oil. Please elaborate whats going on if you know what are the probable causes. What kind of a damage I am looking at when driving the car for a mile after the engine oil pressure lamp lit?
  5. Its more of a social status quo than just a utility here. The attention one gets while driving a luxurious one is enough to force you into buying something that you don't need or worse you can't afford.
  6. What should be the idle air flow (g/s) in Octavia 1.9 TDI Mk1? My MAF sensor is showing 7-8g/s at Idling. Is my MAF faulty?
  7. I have already ordered a new sump but as you have suggested to take a look at pickup pipe I am inclined to replace that one as well. As of now, I am replacing timing belt kit, auxiliary belt, water pump, Engine oil sump and possibly oil pick up pipe. Is there anything also worth replacing while doing the above mentioned components? As always your replies are much appreciated.
  8. I noticed sealant covered all over the drain nut. What are the possible causes and remedies for this situation? It looks like the thread for drain nut has been damaged due to over-tightning (by the previous owner) but still an insight from you guys will be helpful.
  9. Here are the pics. I don't know the reason why I can see the orange rubber even if the box is completely tightened.
  10. I recently changed my air filter and found that the box does not completely close and I can see a thin line of Orange Seal of air filter even after the housing is completely tightened. Is this an issue or is the housing suppose to completely close?
  11. You guys must be right, as the name suggest expansion tank needs some space for liquid to expand when it gets hot. Thats the reason I shouldn't have filed beyond the max marking.
  12. Update on my coolant leakage: Since I fixed the fuse "2nd Stage fan speed", I did not experienced engine overheating since then but a while ago I replaced coolant (filled to the mouth) and have noticed decrease in coolant level. The level only decreases till the half way of expansion tank (Near the central seam). Level doesn't decrease beyond that. Any particular reason for this to happen?
  13. Old Octy has a swag when it rolls. Its an attention seeking machine. Mine is 16 years old now. Here's a pic
  14. Fortunately I have found few sites who deliver OEM as well as aftermarket parts and my experience of these sites is fairly good till now. One of them is boodmo.com. Prices are in fair and acceptable range for products needed in regular maintenance.
  15. As Shreyas informed we have no local options. Even after that, parts cost is the not pressing problem. The real issue lies at the authorised service centres where they charge (sometimes loot) horrendously.
  16. Yeah 36k is a bad quote. I already changed general fluids and filters myself plus I don't even need a HG replacement. So if I take reference of the figure you provided even a 20k mark is a tad bit expensive for just TB kit and water pump. That would be really helpful.
  17. I know 36,000 INR is a lot thats why I asked independent mechanics to send me a quote as well. Expecting a quote around 15-20K INR ($250 - $300) max. A litre cost around 81.07 INR per litre (Approx. $4.169 per gallon) Škoda is more noticeable in my city because of a trend else Skoda only has a market share of 5% throughout India. In the past I owned RE 500 (Thunderbird). Its a good bike, I completed a Ladakh tour (Including the highest motor able road at altitude +18,000 ft) with that bike.
  18. Yes the car is really great. I received a quote of 36,000 INR (approx. $490) to replace Timing belt, Idler pulleys, tensioner and water pump. This price includes labour cost as well. I am from Maharashtra near Nagpur. You can find every 7th-10th car to be a Škoda. I know its not a lot as compared to the existing market but its probably considered a luxury brand here. Yes "The Ambassador" fondly called "King of Indian Roads". It sure has a sweet spot in our hearts.
  19. Looking at your situation you have almost gone through everything which can cause a leakage. Have you tried a dye test ? If yes, have you found any leakage that you can notice on the outside of engine? if you are unable to figure out leakage till now then it probably is boiling out through overflow spillway of expansion tank. I had the same leakage issue a while ago and the culprit in my case was a carbon deposited 2nd stage fuse connection(Fan Speed) placed above the battery. Try giving a look at the fuse and connections that might cause overheating of the coolant. Coolant loss in such cases happens due to over boiling through expansion tank's overflow spillway.
  20. New Information arrived from the previous owner: He has replaced timing belt kit on 01-July-2014 at 1,50,952 Kms Current Mileage is 2,04,700 Kms Is it still recommended to replace the timing belt kit?
  21. Yes, I have booked service appointment for timing belt change. New information from previous owner has come to light about timing belt change on 1,00,000 Kms but I am still inclined to do it as the mileage is at 2,05,000kms now. Just out of curiosity, What kind of damaged your engine suffered when the timing belt snapped?
  22. Pardon my naivety as I am new to this. But I understand what you wanted to convey. I will surely replace the cam belt rather than risking the engine.
  23. Here are the pics to analyse Cam Belt condition. Please analyse and suggest.
  24. Current Mileage reading is 1,27,381 Miles and I didn't find any history showing the previous owner replaced that timing belt. But looking at the belt it seems it has been replaced a couple of years ago. Belt is not giving out any issues or noise as of now but as a precaution I am thinking to replace it. I can upload timing belt images for reference. I wanted to know what consequences am I looking at if timing belt snapped of this TDI engine.
