  1. Given up on finding a s/h motor unit so bought a new one for £140 but guess what turns out it's a 6Q2 not a 6Y2 although it was supposed to be compatible. It's got slightly different multiplugs (well, the big one goes in but the smaller one is too wide to go in either of the 3 multiplug sockets on the 6Q2 type (6y2 just has one big & one small socket, I'm guessing the smaller multiplug is for the passenger door). I'm loath to carve away any plastic to try and get it to fit. So has anyone converted front windows to old fashioned handle winders? Happy to go down this route now.
  2. Don't want to keep forcing poppers off with a screwdriver but don't want to buy a £40 pro set. Looking to buy either of these, what do you lot reckon? https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637195084/trim-stick https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637195082/220mm-trim-clip-tool
  3. Aye, will do. Thanks for your help thus far. Yeah been trying to find one of those at a reasonable price already
  4. Long shot but would a 6Q2959801A window motor out of a 2003 Comfort 1.9 TDI work in it as Ambiente is a rebranded Comfort?
  5. Oh, it never was/is damp inside (not noticeably anyway like steamed up after it's been sat for a bit) I only thought at the time that a connection was having to dry out since it worked a couple of miles down the road. Well, it did twice anyway. Not seen any green corrosion on connections anywhere but fuse spades are kinda dull, except where they've been scraped clean on removal/refitting. Quite chuffed at getting the boot back on nicely with my sausage fingers TBH and couldn't see any wire ends where the loom gets bent all the time, not had door card off yet but without movement, hoping there probably won't be a break elsewhere.
  6. Nope, still dead. Tried it as well with a 2nd key in ignition at position 2 which I heard was a possible fix but no joy.
  7. As in, it's got power both sides. Sorry can't edit posts
  8. Thanks, Wino. Double checked the battery, 12.85V at rest, 13.98 to 14V with engine running, that's with it started seconds before, no running or anything. There's a 6Y in the middle as well as being described as 6Y22E4 model We changed the fuses although unblown, the spades did have shiny bits only where they'd been pushed in and lo, there is now power to fuses 46 & 58 but no window operation. Will have a look in daylight at door switch now there's (supposedly) power to it. Any ideas what pins, etc do what?
  9. Voltage across battery terminals 12.65V and with engine running 13.85V if memory serves
  10. On two cold, damp mornings a few months ago, the 2 front electric windows took a while to get going and I put it down to damp getting in somewhere. Read a few posts here and got them going a few times by variously unplugging loom by door hinges (no obvious broken wires) and/or doing a key reset. That trick soon stopped working. Happy to buy a door switch or motor/control unit but I notice that there is no power to fuses 46 (window right), 58 (window left) and 68 (air blower, which does however work ok). There is no fuse or connections for a fuse even in position 56 (control unit engine). So is the no power to the window fuses a symptom of the motor/control unit failure or door switch and how to tell which to replace?
