  1. Ah right. That’s not normal then. My idle drops back to normal a few miles after the coolant reaches 90°. The regen frequency depends a lot on whether the car has had the dieselgate emission ‘fix’. People that followed the recall and had the update have much more frequent regens and a lot had EGR & DPF issues. My 2015 2.0 170 had the ‘fix’ before I bought it. It was regenerating every 100-120 miles. I had it rolled back to the ecu software file I left the factory with and it’s now every 270-300 miles with my regular 30 mile a day rush hour commute with lots of stopping and starting. If I’m doing motorway runs it goes much further between them. A regen usually takes around 15-20 mins. Car is way nicer to drive too, smoother and more torque. do you have one of the DPF monitor apps to check it’s actually regenerating? They’re really useful. They tell you the ECU software version too so you can tell if it’s had the dieselgate update or not.
  2. Both of my mk2 superbs (2013 elegance 20.tdi 140 & 2015 L&K 2.0tdi 170) have done this when it’s cold & you have a lot of comfort functions on like heater, ac, heated rear screen, heated seats etc. It’s nothing to do with the DPF regenerating although that also causes the ideal to raise to about 1000rpm. The idle settles down back to normal a while after the engine gets up to temp. It’s perfectly normal.
  3. Has anyone with an L&K replaced the auto dimming heated wing mirror glass with non dimming heated glass? My glass got smashed and as I don’t really like the dimming function, I just bought generic heated glass but it’s not getting hot like it used to. There appears to be some warmth but barely anything. It used to evaporate rain drops off the glass in a couple of minutes it got that hot. The connector for the dimming function is just dangling loose behind the new glass. I’m probably showing complete lack of electrical understanding here but if I cut the wires going into the auto dimming connector and joined them to close the circuit, would this bring back the heating function? Apologies if that’s a really dumb idea, haha. Open to any suggestions, I’d just rather not spend £130 a side for a dimming function I never use.
  4. Has the car had the dieselgate emissions ‘fix’? I’ve had 2 2.0tdi mk2s. The 2013 140 never had the update, the 2015 170 had it before I bought it. Never felt any more powerful than my old 140 and would regen every 100-120 miles no matter whether I was driving urban or motorway. I found a fantastic Facebook group dedicated to putting people in touch with garages / tuners who can restore the car’s software to what it left the factory with. I had the rollback done locally, cost £100 & it was like having a new car. So much more responsive and torquey, could have sworn he’d remapped it. The VAG DPF app confirms an earlier pre ‘fix’ software file has been loaded on. Regens are now every 270-300 miles if I’m doing lots of start / stop urban driving & 400+ if I’ve got a lot of motorway miles between fillups. MPG is up slightly too. Search for EA189 Fix Reversal Assistance on Facebook. If you want the details of the guy I used in Oldham feel free to ask.
  5. I got some off eBay. Cost about a tenner for all 4, came direct from China even though they had ‘Made in Germany’ moulded into the back of them 😂. Still look fine with no whiteworm 2 years later. Couldn’t be bothered taking the wheels off to remove the old ones so I just drove a wood screw through them with a drill & pulled on the screw with pliers.
  6. Could one of the little white plastic level sensors on the front suspension be broken? Last service my mechanic noticed one of mine was. I’d not realised at the time but the lights had stopped doing the dance on startup. There were no fault codes as I’d scanned it with Carista before taking it in.
  7. Yeh I’ve turned off the climate control and it still does it. I’m not that bothered by the noise itself, I just don’t want it to be a sign of something expensive on the way out.
  8. Hi everyone, my 2013 2.0tdi has a strange rattle that sounds a bit like a small ball bearing rolling around in the passenger side door bin.... the weird thing is it only does it on cold frosty mornings and it stops after exactly 3 miles, like clockwork. The engine is usually about 70degrees at that point. I’ve emptied everything from the cabin and checked for any loose trim. It’s louder when turning right and accelerating. Not present at idle. Any ideas? It’s really got me stumped.
  9. I just did mine this morning with the Carista app. I bought their Bluetooth OBD dongle for £25. The app is a paid subscription but you get a month free when you buy the dongle. It lets you change all sorts of stuff as well as diagnostics. You can check your DPF level & manually start an active regen cycle too, well impressed. To get the big MPH you have to set the car’s region to Australia (guess it was never an option on European cars?). Then through your MFD go to settings & you tick to enable alternate speed display and you can select digital speed in the MFD settings menu. You don’t have to faff around with codes etc, just a simple interface to turn options on or off. I also activated the electronic diff lock & bumped up the hydraulic brake assist as well as making the driver’s seat slide back when you open the door so it’s easier to get in & out (I always hit my knees on the wheel).
  10. Ah right. Thanks. It’s a 2.0tdi 140 DSG elegance. Didn’t see anything about highline / lowline in the sales info. As long as it’s not broken I’m happy.
  11. Hi guys, I feel stupid asking this but endless googling isn’t working for me. I’ve recently bought a pre facelift 2013 Mk2 Superb (I love it!). I’ve noticed that the inner rear lights (the ones in the boot lid) only come on for the reverse & fog lights. Is this how they all are or should they illuminate with the normal tail & brake lights? Just seems odd to have a good third of the light cluster going unused 95% of the time. Cheers!
