KPH/MPH
I have had the same conversation today, with the car being booked in for the 7th April at my local dealer. They mentioned they would phone the dealer in advance and explain what needed to be done with the car being in. Clearly something is going on behind the scenes, but I suspect it is more to do with investigating and pinpointing which cars are impacted rather than a fix judging by the conversation I had. Of the last two weeks, the car has behaved well with regards the electrics and my main issues are a lack lustre engine performance, a notchy gearbox and the mph/kmh issue. At this time I’m not impressed with the cars driveability but I do like many other things about it. I am hoping they find something with the car so it can be improved. It doesn’t feel like a car with 150 bhp.

ACC without the A
Thanks. I will try that. I’ve a long run on Wednesday so will see how it behaves with the lane assist turned on.

That’s good to hear that there is some movement. I’ve not had the same level of response from Skoda UK, just a stock email saying they are aware of an issue with a small number of first editions I’ve not have I had any responses from HJ despite a few emails to them. Hopefully I’m in queue to be contacted personally. I have the same power train issues as yourself and it’s the thing that’s worrying me the most.

ACC without the A
Thanks for the responses and yes, fully agreed aids, not substitutes and tbh the reason I'd prefer to disable the active part is reduce some of the reliance on the system and maintain the appropriate driver engagement without complacency.

Has anybody tried emailing the email address given? I did today and got a failed delivery due to size being above the limit. The maximum accepted file size was 1kb....are they using a ZX81 as their email server? Interesting though, the delivery failure note actually gave a person’s email address, so executive.office is clearly an email alias for someone in Skoda. I also like the fact they try to deflect it towards a competitor to VAG. Classic!

KPH/MPH
This was just a comparison between what the car via the trip computer is telling me the mpg was vs what the actual mpg was based upon measured fuel burned. It was to see the accuracy of the onboard calcs in response to a comment from someone else. As you infer, the mpg will vary depending upon a myriad of circumstances and conditions, but that was not the intent for this exercise.

550 miles travelled....45.4 litres of fuel to fill up. 55 mpg vs. the car claiming 56.4. mpg.

At the request of the dealer i logged all my issues with Skoda UK. The response from the customer services team was the issues on the infotainment system and the mph/kmh was the first time they had heard about them. Surprise, Surprise! i emailed HJ a while ago, and still not heard back despite a follow up email. I’ll send an email to the executive office as suggested. My dealer had mentioned that some early first edition had problems but had been fixed with software issues. So these issues have been known since day 1. Monday and Tuesday I did 500 miles on a work trip on motorway and country roads. Not a glitch in sight! Everything worked. Only the misfire and general feeling of an unresponsive engine. Saying that, I got 61 mpg which impressed me anyway.

ACC without the A
Whilst most of the time the ACC is fabulous thing, the random nature of automated braking when approaching a vehicle can make it a thrilling and exhausting experience. Does anyone know if you can turn off the adaptive bit and have it operate as a normal cruise control system? Thankyou.

‘Characteristics’ of my Octavia
Whilst I can go at length about the other stuff, I share the issue regarding loss of power. Did a 450 mile round trip today and the engine just feels flat and I have no confidence in pulling out to overtake. The car does the same power surging and also misfiring/jerking at 30 mph in third or fourth even when warm. I had a courtesy car for ten days with the same 1.5 engine and it was night and day. I enjoyed driving this one. So, mine is going to be looked at on the 7th April, though I suspect I’ll get the “nothing wrong, it drives normally” from the dealer. Which point I’ll seriously consider moving the car on. I can handle most of the glitches of the software, but not the basic driveability. sad really, as it was one of the few cars that met my practicality needs...

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
Hi. I had a westfalia detachable swan neck fitted with 13 pin electrics. You can’t see it all when the bar is removed and you wouldn’t even know the bumper was cut unless you stick your head right underneath. it did take DM Keith in Grimsby about 10 days from collecting to dropping back off my car as the coding took their subcontracted independent an age to do. But it seems okay having put my bike rack on it and checked various bits such as the rear sensors being disabled. FYI it cost me 750 in the end to be done. So 435 sounds a bargain and should be fine. But then again, with the quirks of this model, don’t hold me to it.

Hi Golfnut, Sounds like you have a car almost identical to mine. A July 2020 first edition. Mine used to be the dealer's demo car and used by the parts manager. I thought it would be sorted and not have the issues many have described. Sadly not the case, and whilst not as extreme, I have encountered similar issues to most other first edition owners. I've raised it with HJ and also Which (waiting to hear back from them) as well as putting everything in writing back to the dealer on all the issues experienced. What I'm slowly gathering is that the dealer knew about these issues (comments like we had a few earlier ones that did that!). If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase your car from?

I don't have the issue with the boot as I've the powered version. The misfire, yes I've noticed it on mine and can't seem to align it with the eco mode. My wife has noticed it as well when she has been driving it. I'm having my looked at by my local dealer on the 7th April.

Good luck with the new car. It’s a shame as you say, but if you’ve lost confidence and it poses a safety issue then this is the best decision.

Collective Action Octavia First Edition
Hi. I've contacted a friend at Which! and he is going to pass on the list of issues many first edition owners have faced. I'll see if this gains any traction with them and feedback.

Octavia First Edition SEL 1.5 petrol
Mine does the same. When I drove a courtesy car with the same engine, however it did not, which led me to ask the dealer to have a look at mine. That will be on the 7th. My car just doesn’t feel or sound quite as smooth.

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
I went for a 13 pin version as that is attachment for my Atera bike rack. Can’t advise on the 7 pin however. But I’m when having it fitted they gave me the option of either. I do have a Erde trailer that has 7 pin I think so I’ll check to see if that is okay once I get an adapter.

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
So hopefully last word on the subject from me. I tested the towbar with the bike rack (although current restrictions meant it was a drive around the block)! All systems seem to work fine with reversing sensors recognising something attached. The only side effect is that when attaching the tow bar it can set of the virtual pedal causing the boot to open or close. So you have to remember to deactivate this before using the towbar!

Good news. Let’s hope this all works for you. I’ve have to wait until 7th April before being checked again. I had a new error today. A occupant protection system failure (airbag) warning along with a constant warning of seatbelt not worn, I was wearing it and there was no one and nothing on the passenger seats. Both were fine after stopping, locking and then unlocking the car again! Go figure!

Apologies, should have made I’d clear. Mine does have the Matrix LED lights. The base car is 1.5 SEL first edition. It was registered in July 2020 and was a dealer demo car for a while. I bought it Feb 2021. It had the matrix lights fitted as and extra option as well as the HUD and Virtual Pedal. Hope that helps. On the matrix lights. I’ve not tested them thoroughly but have noticed the blanking being rather intermittent when on full beam. With flashed from on coming cars showing their annoyance!

There is a setting which refers to lights being in left or right side traffic which I believe is what you are after. I’ll send a picture of the setting when I’m in the car next.

Collective Action Octavia First Edition
I sent my details off to HJ a few days ago but not had a response. Hopefully it’s been added to the list going off to Skoda.

That's great news. I've not heard anything from HJ following the email I sent yesterday. Mine goes to a dealer on 7th April (the earliest they could see me) to go through again the issues. But given the responses from other dealers, I can't imagine for a minute it will be come back fixed.

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
Hi. The usual glitches of freezing when selecting primary user, random messages telling me front assist sensor has failed, only to be fixed next time you start the car, phone not connecting...issues that everyone else is having judging by the other topics.....I've started to elevate the issue like a few others on here have to external bodies to see what can be done to resolve. Don't get me started on the lack of buttons! I'm no technology ludite, but car design is fast going the wrong direction, and it's making it dangerous have to try and prod a touchscreen when driving just to turn up the heating. If this car didn't have Apple CarPlay, I'd consider it a disaster!....I'm told there's more code in a car then in program behind Facebook. Yes agree, I'll get the bike rack on ASAP...it's blowing a storm outside at the moment ☺️.

Touchscreen not working
There seems constant issues with the infotainment system that renders the car at best an inconvenience, at worst dangerous. On one the other topics (the KPH/MPH one), a few others have started to email Honest John with some of these issues that we feel Skoda should be doing more to resolve. The more of us who contact them on the same issue, the greater the chance we will get some positive response. If it weren't for these software issues, the car can be considered to be pretty good. Please email your issues. Thank-you.
