  1. Thanks for the update of the new software. When you say not saving settings. Which ones are you referring too? As far as I’m aware the system is badly designed and so by default doesn’t save a lot of settings such as the last driving mode, certain assist features. So unless there’s a rethink by Skoda, it’s not a case of not working, it was never there in the first place. Which is frustrating I agree.
  2. I agree that the lane assist is overly aggressive, I have noted that the Ford Hire car I have been given whilst I wait for my MK4 to be fixed is exactly the same. It defaults back to on every time and can do random things so it gets turned off immediately. The only difference is that it is one click on a dedicated button on the end of the indicator stalk. Like someone knew it was crap and it would be turned off each time.
  3. Hi Mark. The issue with the mph/kmh is one of legality with UK laws, not for the SatNav but the speedo. This issue sparked Skoda UK into action to try and get these FE models fixed. All the issues relate to infotainment errors where you will get....front assist failure, occupant protection failure, freezing of the screen not allowing you to use anything on the system. The jumping issue is not good, it was supposed to be fixed and some have had issues of stalling even under load. I'd keep a watch on it. Good luck with the car. Generally they are a nice car. Regards
  4. Thankyou for sharing. It is helpful to know this as despite the issues with my previous MK4, I’ve opted to keep the faith and gone for a VRS diesel.
  5. If it's still a problem, I have a template letter provided by Which Magazine that can be sent to the dealer clearly articulating the two different consumer laws that are applicable. One is more serious than the other in that it brings in trading standards with fines and legal action. Good luck - sorry that you had to take this action. It's always going to be stressful.
  6. Fair to say, so is mine. It may be a few niggles when you’re testing it for a few hours. Not so much when you shell out thousands and have to live with it everyday. I just read a review from pistonheads which reported the issue of the constant update in progress and blank screen. It was glossed over as gremlins. I have lost total faith in all car reviewers. Sorry.
  7. It does look like you have a first edition model with a later build. Does it have the ability to change the Speedo units? That seems to have been the trigger for Skoda UK to do something about or at least take it seriously. My SEL first edition showed the same unknown for the same line items and recently the Replacement VRS I was offered by the dealer has identical to your picture. That was built week 45. if you don’t mind me asking, but what are the issues you are seeing on your car.
  8. Key things to look for are the higher spec (electric drivers seat and the blind spot) over the standard SEL. also check your system information and your device part number. If there is no letter at the end of the number on the first line, then you’ve got one of the early builds that seem to have the major issues. Other giveaways are the inability to change the Speedo units from mph to kmh. And the satnav units as km. hope that helps.
  9. Is your car a first edition by chance? As said, you are entitled to a full refund. good luck.
  10. Oh dear! That’s supposed to one without issues. Bin it and walk away. Skoda have managed to produce a car that’s just not ready for the market. The hire car I’ve got whilst waiting for the mph/kmh is a new model Ford Kuga. In 4 weeks of having it from it being new, no issues at all! As it should be! Perhaps I’ve made a mistake accepting a newer octavia after my rejection of the FE model I had.
  11. Quick question for you. Does your device part number end in a letter? If you have a first edition model, with no letter I would be heading straight to rejection (which is what I have successfully done).
  12. Thanks for the update. Being perfectly honest, I would go with the BMW or Audi over the Skoda if they are financial options. The BMW control system is a different league. I have a 10 year old M135i and I prefer this older system than the new octavia one. The octavia has the better practicality in terms of boot space which is why I chose it over the 3 series. That’s just my view point!
  13. So my personal view. I had the heads up display and within the first ten minutes it was turned off and never turned back on again. It really doesn’t offer anything other than a distraction in your eyeline in my view. It was developed by the airline industry for pilots who have critical parameters to monitor and lots of them. Can’t say the same for driving a car. As for the bugs, my first edition model has been rejected and swapped for a VRS. I’m hoping the later build and different head unit will have less issues. The one VRS issue I’m seeing outside the infotainment is the slipping backrest on the drivers seat. Seems a few reports of that on the forum for those with manual seats.
  14. Well that blows a hole in their theory of week 25. The mph to kmh issue is the one they are really struggling with, as it seems to be a legal requirement to have this facility in the UK. My reasoning for taking the hire car was initially based upon the premise of reducing the mileage in case they offered a buy back but with a proportion taken off for wear usually a cost per mile. Just a precaution measure.
  15. So update from me. With no end in sight and the Skoda UK not being able to provide a suitable hire car for me, I have taken the 2.0 TDI VRS that was offered to me by the dealer with a. full buy back of my old car and a full refund of the towbar that was fitted. A conversation with Skoda UK told me that they believe that any cars built before week 25 of 2020 were those that showing the majority of issues. So July 2020 onwards will not have the same issues (take that with a big pinch of salt). They seem too have realised that they ain't going to fix the issue any time soon, and are "encouraging" dealers to buy back. I'm going to keep a very careful eye on the software and log any issues with evidence so if things continue to happen I can get a quick resolution. I hope this won't be the case. The dealer has been great, I do feel sorry for them and I really hope that they don't try and sell the car onwards before the fix happens. Good luck to those still with the issue and holding out. Remember our rights and don't be fobbed off with poor buy-back deals.
  16. And the phev. Unless specified with towbar prep. spoke to Skoda UK who are realising that the dealers have no idea about the requirement for towbar prep so are trying to advise them to learn about the rules and limitations. Just yesterday a salesmen was trying to tell me that you can get an aftermarket towbar fitted to a phev and that their independent fitter could do it. I had to open the driver door and pointed to the VIN plate which read 0 for the GTW and then told him to read their brochures. Honestly, they only have 5 products to sell!
  17. Good stuff. I have a Ford Kuga 120 Ecoboost titanium as the hire car from Skoda and I have to say that it's a good vehicle and it works well with no glitches in the 900 miles i've done in it. Yes the boots not as big but still good, and it's quiet on the motorway, pulls well for only 120 bhp and seems to return about 54 mpg. (It was brand new with 5 miles on the clock when I picked it up) and would expect that to improve. Generally Ford's do also drive very well. My dealer had fitted the tower to the car despite the fact they were not meant to.....I suspect they will lose out on that car....
  18. So update. As Skoda UK are taking forever and a day to solve this issue mph. The supplying dealer has taken matters into their own hands. They offered to buy back my July registered 1.5 SEL first edition estate for the price paid for it plus the cost of the aftermarket towbar (750 pounds). They have offered me a recently registered VRS TDI DSG in standard spec. (With less than 1000 miles) for a significant discount on a new model and to fit a Skoda towbar for cost. Fair play to them. I’m thinking it over as I never intended to buy a VRS and no matter what it’s an increase to what had originally paid. Any diesel VRS owners like to chip in on there ownership experience?
  19. Thankyou so much for taking the time to provide a comprehensive response. Very much appreciated. I'm pleased you are issue free with the car and yes, I would agree regard complexity, but it seems this is the way things are going with all cars. I'm with you in the PHEV is the stepping stone to full EV, but until the range allows me to do 500 miles round trip without charging then I'll wait. What is pleasing to see is the longer journey you managed to get fairly decent mpg. I'm assuming you were running some in hybrid for some of that 77 miles, so I'd be interested to see what happens on a longer journey with a fully depleted battery. Maybe we should start another thread to avoid hijacking this one.
  20. Hi. Are you having difficulties with yours that may wish to reject? I only ask because I was thinking of swapping my 1.5 SEL first edition for the iV but not if it has similar or different issues. Thanks.
  21. As far we can see some first edition models have certain issues with respect to software glitches more so than later models. It seems that even the later builds have some software glitches but not as severe or often. It would also seem the stimulus for action was the result of the inability to switch between mph and kmh on the speedometer and the SatNav stuck on km. There may be legal requirement for the first issue, which is presumably why Skoda UK are spending a small fortune on hire cars for those owners impacted. So check your Satnav and see if you can change you speedo to kmh and that's the big clue. So far, there is no fix on the horizon despite the issue being raised as far back as September 2020.
  22. Thankyou. I’m in a similar situation. Although I’ve just asked if they would swap out my hire car for one with a tow-bar as i need one. I’ve a feeling it’s going to be a few months yet before they find a fix or admit defeat.
  23. Hi @Coume Is you car still at the dealers waiting for the fabled kph/mph fix? I recall that it went in on the 18th March..
  24. That's correct, but it depends upon when you tell them of the fault. If you tell them the fault before the 30 days are up, then the clock stops until the repair is completed. The Which legal team explained that to me over a 1-2-1 call specifically on this issue and also sent me a template letter which also includes the 2008 about misleading/misrepresentation. As a consumer organisation, I have faith in their viewpoint. My experience with my dealer is very different in that they are communicating with both myself and Skoda UK on a regular basis and have so far promised that they will do what they can to make sure I don't lose out. This includes a complete refund or finding a suitable replacement, which I sadly have to accept will not be as well specced as the SEL FE and all the options that it had included (HUD, Virtual Pedal, Matrix Lights, Travel Assist, Spare Wheel, 18inch Alloys, special paint). I paid just under 20,800 with 3,500 on the clock in Jan, when I try and spec an equivalent vehicle on a car discount website....it's close to 29,000...much more on the Skoda website. I'm with @OctaviaFirstEdit, reliability is the key thing. In the 850 miles I've done on the hire car, not single problem at all (it's a Ford Kuga 21 plate). Went to a car supermarket yesterday and sat in lots of different cars - from Kodiaq's to Volvo's and the Octavia is still the best for my needs. So maybe a Mk3.5 is actually the right thing to do....perhaps a Scout!
  25. Anybody else had any further communication from Skoda UK and Kate Law? My conversation this morning was the same as previous. No update, still waiting for factory to find a fix, software updates happening all the time. Finally admitted that there may some vehicles sharing a common fault, but suggested it was still software related. I explained I was travelling end of this month so needed a car with a towbar, said that could be arranged, which then raised the alarms this could continue for another 4 weeks at least and well beyond that. The response to that was..."I hope not". Are Skoda simply expecting us to hang on indefinitely, placated by a hire car? I asked, given they've known about the issue since November, why they think it's a simple software fix and why haven't they already sorted it. Given how long it's taking, surely they should just give all impacted owners a like for like replacement and they can fix these other cars at their leisure. There was no response to this. She said she would go higher up to try and get further answers.
