  1. @Warrior193 yeah I guess I’m sticking to the fab for a while longer. Shame really I did want to celebrate passing my probation for my new job. But I’m going Egypt for my birthday this year so I’ll just enjoy that a bit harder with my lil lady. i did explain insurers will ask for MOT after car is written off regardless if it had a valid one before the accident. And true out there is the same Spec but with a seller that doesn’t have to omit any details. and I’ve had a look at the link and explained my offer further so let’s see. MOT expires in November anyway.
  2. @Warrior193 private seller I think they’ve picked it up directly from salvage. Had a family/ local friend fix it up and done a semi pro job. Now are wanting a different car / change of kind and want to sell it on. I’ve offered £3600 they countered £4k. 4750 -20% (Cat N) - 200 for brakes and bumper inconvenience. I mentioned the mismatched front bumper (missing headlight washers), front brakes needing done soon. And MOT due in just November. Also that cars are required to have a new MOT once written off regardless of Category. But seems like she won’t budge so I’ll possibly have to walk away. Sometimes it’s better to put it on black than trust a stranger in the marketplace that wasn’t being honest from the start. I learnt this from when my 1991 mr2 timing crapped out and cost me 3.7k in total when I was 24. Saddest day of my life at that point.
  3. @Alasdair1 it could simply be injectors sound. A lot of feedback is suggesting it’s completely normal and I guess I’m not familiar with this engine. I’ve only really worked with 1.2HTP, 1.4AZQ and 1.4BBZ Fabia engines. Generally speaking the car did drive great. I did read somewhere it does a kangaroo thing on gear one but I didn’t experience that. Being a CATN all service records were gone but they did have a print out of some service records which seemed good. I don’t think the sellers actually knew it was CAT N and it seems like they’re only selling due to a change of circumstances and not trying to dump the car. I’ve asked for them to MOT it and I’ll pay. And if there’s any issues either reduce the price or fix it and I’ll pay closer to asking price. I would request a mechanic to inspect it but it’s far from where I live and I’m not sure I’m willing to spend extra before buying the car.
  4. @Alasdair1 I did want to get a diesel but considering this can be such a bargain I don't mind the slightly lower fuel costs and smaller engine. I don't really carry many passengers but would like to embark on a long trip with my partner one of these days and last thing I'd want is the car crapping out on me for something overlooked. Since its salvage I don't think it will have any service history at all...
  5. @Alasdair1 I did run it by my current insurance (AA) and it's not really much of an increase. I don't think they'll refuse to insure a CAT N car with just bumper damage. Confused.com also offered 700/year -East London - 15k miles a year - SDP&C They said the underwriter will insure it and I don't really mind the CAT N marker as it's just a front bumper replacement - I agree it is a bit of a worry, but that's what test drives and in person viewings are for. if he's really iffy then its a day trip to a different city and enjoy some local galleries. I'm more so looking at what to look out for during inspection. previous owner before this person had it for 11 years, so it seems like they got into an accident and insurance paid them out for it? If it was me I'd take the money and get myself an upgrade... I think it will still be a good car, If I can get a good look at suspension, engine components, take it for a nice drive and know what to look out for I'll be fine and wouldn't mind spending four thousand on what is ideally a really well spec'd car with almost everything I want on it.
  6. Good afternoon, Coming in from the Fabia side, I am looking at this Skoda Octavia 64 plate estate elegance. It's in a very nice blue and just 90k miles. The seller wants £4750 for it but hasn't disclosed that its CAT N (potential bargaining angle), the front bumper has been replaced with a new one, however the replacement bumper doesn't include the headlight washer - 8X1 - they sent me PR codes - will have to confirm on inspection of car. The car also has the front assist module? (square thing mounted on front of car) which I wanted to retrofit ACC into but I think that may cost me 500+ I currently do 250 miles a week 50/50 A406 and 30 roads. I think the 1.4 TSI will take well do this - I also do yearly tour with an Indian classical instruments company - we carry stages, instruments and some of the nicest souls I've come across. We're actually in Reading and Bristol in September 18 so If you're interested I can get you discounted tickets. Anyways. I really like this spec; leather seats, sunroof, heated seats, cruise control, front assist, roof rails, as well as a spare key (nice). The cherry on top would be ACC but considering its low mileage and a car I do want to keep for 5 years I can always save for upgrades in the future. I'd like to ask if there's any advice in inspecting and buying this car, ownership pitfalls. If it's easy to access the belt and what to check for in terms of major services It may have gone through before the accident. MOTs show nothing major just one time a rear coil spring fractured which was fixed (2025) and tyres once. This would be my second Turbo car, 1st was a BMW 118d in 2018 so a while ago, my previous 3 cars were all Mk1 Fabias. The salvage photos show small damage, front bumper completely removed, as well as one panel dented, photos on advert show a clean finish as if nothing ever happened to it, the seller also mentions all paperwork is present but that may not include service history. I really do like the car Its a CHPA Engine code I believe I'm working with a Timing Belt 1.4 TSI Estate Manual Many thanks, A potential octavia owner. 7. Good evening, I have had an accident with my Fabia and have sourced a cheap VRS front bumper for my petrol model. The bumper was incredibly cheap so its not in the best condition and has screw holes in it and is missing some pieces.. I'd like to ask for advice on fitting this onto my 1.4 Fabia petrol, I have had to also remove my passenger wing because it was horribly dented in the accident so will get one of those to match the silver of the VRS bumper. The front bumper is also missing a driver side fog light assembly and the housing at the back of it is broken a bit unfortunately. I'd also like to ask how I would fit my working Fog lamps into the VRS Bumper assembly if possible or will I be looking at buying a new setup, or splicing some wires from my car to the VRS fog lamps? Not fussed if the car looks good anymore, its taking me on a 50 mile round trip every day for work and its only 78k miles so I'll be saving up for a new Fabia once this one gets knackered, I should be able to afford one of the lot if that's the plan. I'd appreciate any input here ladies and gentlemen.
  8. Because I'd like to see what anyone else would have paid for it. I was quoted £60 when I asked the other day (Saturday).
  9. I’ve read about the vacuum line in so many posts but I can’t seem to actually figure out where exactly I’m looking. I’ve run my finger across and along all the hoses they all seem fine. the intermittent signs are coming and going. the car isn’t insured as of now because paying £1000 a year for my car makes no sense. 27yo 5y no claims East London. 3 years or so ago my 1.2 htp was 750 yearly. Mechanic suggests smoke test. How much is that? Also I polished my headlights. man this car is gorgeous.
  10. Update 3 We have an intermittent EPC & CEL Light likely dodgy map sensor or air leak I’ll clean the map sensor, then do a smoke test at the garage unless there’s a cheaper way I’m all ears. car is driving okay, I should swap that busted coil pack out but it isn’t exactly not working. Just Gear 3 it’s choppy around 20mph, probably the car bitching about being babied on tarmac but it drives well either way. The lights come on after I’m sitting in traffic for like 15m. I'm reading about how someone pulled 140 off this car but who’s got money for that? I’d rather buy some good tyres and a nice full valet. I would like to put some extra power in this or improve/tune the harmonics. I’ve heard you can put sound deadening mats in cars and I wonder how that is.
  11. Update 2 70 miles have passed and on the morning drive to work EPC & CEL returned. switched car off and on at the traffic light and the EPC light went but the CEL remains. going to the garage to read what codes are coming up. Like a vacuum leak? EDIT: 12:15pm fault code - p0106 MAP sensor range/ performance problem
  12. UPDATE 25/11/24 EGR & Throttle adapted CEL + EPC reset and not come back on even with hot engine fuel economy issue resolved - no longer idling and siting at 1500 rpm for no reason even at lower gears I should get the old EGR tested in case it was always working. Otherwise will sell for scrap or something. Maybe make some money back.
  13. So, no gasket? [18] If that is really the case then I just need to get the adaptation done and it should be fine. I asked a fella on FB with a similar photo and he mentioned it would need a gasket where the orange seal is which led me down the rabbit hole of finding somewhere that supplied that part. Now I am watching this video; and he doesn't seem to have a gasket anywhere I was looking. go to 5:45 Well, for now, I will disconnect the EGR. Let the mechanic know he will see me Monday to do the adaptation. I'm also in Milton Keynes tomorrow near MK Dons so if anyone is near I can pass by!
  14. I've got both these seals (red and green) in but I guess I could get new ones as a refresher. Then What is left is the SEAL [18] 036131550A. 03613155
  15. Not the best photo... But it appears not. Edit: VIN TMBMD46Y654328405
  16. I should have taken more photos but The gasket that goes under [1] I think is missing. As for [15] I believe that is missing too but I didn't take a photo so I am not sure what I was meant to be looking at. -------- Edit: I've just watched a video of when i removed some parts. I DO have an orange seal [15] in place so maybe it's just the gasket that needs finding. (036131550A)
  17. Fitted new EGR valve with 2 new gaskets Realised that the gasket for the Throttle to EGR pipe is missing. Looking through posts yields this here: 036131550A However, there are loads of different types and I am wondering if there is a list of gaskets I can buy that will fit my 1.4 16v BBZ engine. Since fitting the New EGR as well as cleaning the throttle body I should have adapted it but I thought I would do that last... I started the car back up... a horrible idle, it's not allowing me to rev at all and it's not responding to my pedal inputs. Leave it a few hours and come back, starts up and only the CEL light is on, Drive it up and down the road then the EPC and ASR lights come on and it roughly idles. Carefully take it back to my house and just park it up. Now looking for the Gasket part number and hoping an adaptation after all this will solve it once and for all. I don't mind disconnecting the EGR but the car is drinking so much fuel and is sitting at 1500 RPM whenever it gets the chance... I have to keep my clutch down to the rpm from finding its way to 1500 even at idle. Some have suspected that the missing gasket at the TB and EGR pipe is causing the rough idle, due to an air leak...
  18. @sepulchrave It drove without crapping out like it did when I put a regular blanking plate on it ( I will be buying another set and torquing nuts down 25nm). I could get both blanked and non blanked but I am reading the EGR valve is purely for a greener exhaust emission persona? But did about 50 miles motorway and local with the EGR valve unplugged. Doesn’t really skip any beats but I know for sure the car drives better just after I’ve removed the warning signs and drove it for a bit before it comes back on. With the EGR off and out yesterday I gave it a decent spray with the canned dedicated cleaners. But I remembered that it must be adapted after as with the throttle body (which I haven’t done yet). A bit annoyed that the warning sign came on as soon as I parked up at home after I bought the car, considering I took it for a spirited test drive before it just hid from me the entire time.. But the car is wonderful, drives so well, sounds gorgeous at 4-6k revs and my partner thinks it sounds like a sports car! all in all, I think the car won’t sweat if I blank the EGR again... 2 Codes to expect, EGR insufficient or excessive and MAP sensor range/performance issue...
  19. I thought about doing that I can give it a go and take the car for a spin see how it fares.
  20. Removed the EGR for a small clean and inspection, noticed there was a blanking plate so I popped a hole in it and set it all back up. The car read some new fault codes, twice as many as before. 1.4 16v 100hp BBZ Engine Petrol 2005 P0402 - EGR Excessive flow (present before removing the blanking plate) P0106 - MAP Sensor Range/ Performance problem (present before removing the blanking plate) P0407 - EGR Valve Pos. Sensor B - Low input P0403 - EGR Circuit Malfunction P0170 - Fuel Trim Bank 1 Malfunction I read the codes with the ELM, went for a 20m drive and the car just crapped out 10 mins in, not starting properly, revs dropping and then staying at 1100rpm, after about a 5 min wait the car was back to normal, I suspect my ELM OBD reader is messing with the system a bit too much so that’s going in the bin soon. Here’s a photo of the Gasket/ EGR Blanking plate. The EPC light has gone off on its own but the CEL light is still on, I would need to get it scanned with a more reliable device to see what’s going on. I will endeavour to out 50-100 miles in before comparing driving experience. Only thing i did notice immediately is that when coasting, the revs drop then hang about at 1100-1200 rpm for very short moment, then it goes to idling rev 600-700. I guess that’s the EGR doing its thing recycling the exhaust gases? Hopefully I can get the mechanic to scan it for free, although I doubt it. I really don’t wanna use the ELM anymore because it’s been messing up the car on a few occasions now immediately after I use it. My next course of action is taking any advice then probably changing the EGR component itself with a decent eBay one or the pierbeurg one for £75-100. But I bought the car for £800 so spending more than 10% on one part is a bit funny. I also need to give it a decent service too so, trying to pinch my pennies where I can.
  21. @Breezy_Pete HY55 XKG TMBMD46Y654328405 and @rum4mo I guess it’s a preventative measure, I bought the car with ZERO history, and the promise that the car runs perfect. 62k miles tho, and very very clean. A bit of TLC and I should have her ready for sale (after I have had my run with it of course). The seller wasn’t half wrong, then I read that these filters can be changed every 20k miles, so better to be safe and give it a full service get everything changed and flowing correctly, lord knows how long ago the sparks were changed too, I bought and drove the car with no bloody oil in it, so I can imagine that didn’t do the engine any favours for the hour or so of driving. I guess fuel filter is one of those things I can change myself and not rack up labour expenses. I really need a metallic grey front bumper and passenger wing too to get the car looking pretty. Then a headlight polish since the eyes are so big on this car. Pic for attention - man I wish I could get a VRS bodykit for this colour.. .
  22. Hello, Does this photo attached help anyone identify which fuel filter I would need for my Fabia. Its a 2005 facelift manual 1.4l 16v BBZ engine. There are so many parts and variations.
