Weak Handbrake - rolling backwards
Hello all, wanted to make a post to see if there was any advice on where to start with having a weak handbrake. I’m pulling it all the way up and it is still not grabbing, but indeed groaning on a hill and rolling back. here is a photo of the adjuster near the cup holder section. I did want to check the drum brakes a couple of weeks ago but it was takin too long to take off and I’m missing a few safety tools to chock the wheels properly so I thought I’d save it for another day and find some jacks and chocks for a steal somewhere. please see photo attached.

Remote Central Locking Installation Guide
Hello all. Had a couple Qs. For the installation, there is really no need to remove the door panel at all? My car doesn’t have electric windows. Also, for the resistor (my first time soldering anything) is there a spec to follow or any general 180ohm resistor will work. Are there any ideal alternatives for this step?? I am looking at the guide now and will be opening up the dash over the weekend to practice. I really do like the idea of getting the doors to open with the push of a button.

High RPM Idle?
What’s the cheapest entry to this device? Ive seen mentions of it around all the time, just not sure what to pickup exactly. I also have a MacBook so no windows around me, although i could use a program to emulate(?) the windows and use my laptop or will i not need that at all. Thanks mate

High RPM Idle?
Hello all. glad to see the weather getting relatively better in London. It was a good 15-18°c today so it was nice to drive with the windows down a bit. my Fabia 1.2 BMD engine has a slightly high idle. Wondering if anyone has any pointers to try and figure out what could be causing it. The idle was at about 800-950 On startup, when warmed up and during drives. the temp gauge is always just a bit over the halfway 90. And gets there fairly quick. Any pointers are appreciated.

Issue on my fiancée's 1.2htp
Sounds a bit like mine before I got the timing chain replaced... Check some of my videos on YT and let us know how you feel.

Remote Central Locking
Hello all, I bought my car back in November, unfortunate for the last 4 weeks I haven’t been able to drive it (other than starting it up and moving it around) because it wasn’t taxed and I had to order a new v5. Now that it’s taxed I am preparing it for sale. Im looking to sell the car after doing a brake service (front pads, rear drums and shoes + bleed). I will inspect it all soon but weather is terrible the next 10 days... funny enough. A few things have been bothering me, as the title suggests; does this car have remote central locking or is it completely manual? The windows are manual winding, there is a cassette player for the car instead of radio... I have attached a photo of the VAG code list The car only came with one key, my previous Fabia has RCL and Electric Windows, I kinda miss it now... Especially the flip out key.

Fabia 1.2 classic
Yeah I hear it completely. I have the car back now, the mechanic charged me £280 labour. I think that’s a great price. But still, trying to charge me 650 total for a job like this and claiming that the parts would cost anywhere near £300 seems a bit iffy to me. Nevertheless. My baby is purring; for a fraction of the price... I will upload a cold start tomorrow for before and after... He also advised to change the engine oil and filter to keep the new chain fresh, I know there’s a post in here about which oil to get so I will dive in a bit and try to find it. I will respond here with the oil and filter link for future reference. So far my repair expenses for the car are as follows ignition coil, water pump, timing kit & sealant = £30 + £45 + £65 & £15 = £155 Labour for coil + water pump(mobile repair), Labour for timing chain(garage repair)= £70 + £280 = £350 Total so far = £505 Tbh around here a handful of mechanics are happy to let customers source their own parts, a lot of the time we have golden methods of getting them at a crazy discounted rate, I actually got my timing chain kit for free so we can minus £65 from the £280 I paid making it a mere £215! every little helps. For now here’s a video of it after I drove the car back and parked up, you can see the sealant around the timing cover. Engine is warm.

Fabia 1.2 classic
Delayed a bit because I think the mechanic was messing me about. 650 for parts and labour 350 just labour? And not in a garage but mobile??? My kit was only £68… Went back to the mechanic that done my old Fabia’s bushings and control arms. £280 labour. Not bad. Will update further Tuesday. “If you wanna do it in a garage it’s gonna cost you an arm and a leg.” I’m not surprised since another ‘friend’ charged me £300 to change a water pump and serpentine belt. Maybe these guys just don’t like me lmao.

Fabia 1.2 classic
Who needs a proper Question? We had enough of those at school... Nevertheless, parts arrived. For future reference I hope someone that has this ruckus going on can instantly understand what’s going on, I’ll get my old chain and components back to show you guys what it looked like, although I don’t know how much indication of wear a chain can show. What’s really weird though, I started the car yesterday for a few moments, sounded completely fine. Drove it around, not too bad either. Warmed up, it sounded even better. Very perplexing considering the previous 3-4 cold starts sounded like I was blending stones.

Fabia 1.2 classic
Hello, New post for a new problem lets get it! So the horrible sound on startup (cold) is available to watch on youtube! A 10-15 second video of pure ear ache. The sound dies down significantly after it reaches good temperature. The sound increases in nastiness as I rev, but is almost hone when fully warmed up. Spoke to a mechanic that would charge me £300 for labour (he needs his partner in crime to get it done) I have heard that these are unlikely to jump and screw the engine, but I don’t want to risk it so I am letting the Fabia sit idle until the repair session is due. Maybe he will do less, he is my closest friend's pops. I have picked up this kit from trusty amazon; https://amzn.to/41NELG4 I’d take any recommendations for parts if this isn’t what I need. Here is the link for the show; I'm taking any 2 pennies worth of opinions, foresight and passing comments. God I love these Fabias.

Engine bay noise. 1.2htp
We have a noise coming from the belt/ pulley/ pump section. I have uploaded a video to YT if anyone would like to have a gander. Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
Im getting no smiles per gallon though. Not even a smirk. I am also paying a grand a year for insurance. On a 54bhp vehicle. My god. I love this car to bits but the world we live in

Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
Wire brush sounds good. And yeah I have 1 spare new plug right now. For the coil packs, I will have to look when I get back downstairs to the car. I will edit below with the dates I find. And yeh I realised after I read your post you meant the coil packs. I’m wanting to take the car for a spin expecting some performance gain but I’m dreaming. My neighbour just took me for a ride in his r36 wagon. Beautiful… What am I doing with a 3 pot?

Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
The spark plugs are arriving on Thursday, I intended to clear out the gunk from the spark plugs but the engine was pretty hot and the air coming out the duster was super cold so I think I’ll leave it until the end of the week. I did change the air filter though, I want to change the cabin filter too but I just gave the old one a clean and dug out all the dust in the gaps instead. I think the car needs a big brake service next... Pads, drums and shoes. Is it worth bleeding the brakes too? Not my forte by any means but worth learning right...

Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
Couldn’t find any at Poundland, or Halfords, or B&Q... I will order some stuff of the good old amazon though. These are all for a 1.2 6y2 Fabia with a BMD engine code - from glorious amazon prime. NDD and return conditions that are always in the customers favour. Spark plugs: https://amzn.to/46nLbfW Air Filter: https://amzn.to/49R2Fo0 Air Gas: https://amzn.to/3MWKDa6

Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
I agree Pete. Spark plugs now, are they original or have they been changed? I’m voting that they haven’t been changed since production. Answer will be revealed tomorrow 19:00 latest.

Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
80k miles. loads of history with the car and I haven’t seen anything about spark plugs or coils.

Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
Off to Halfords for some canned air it seems… I wonder how the spark plugs are doing since they haven’t been out at all it seems from the papers.

Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
Hello all, Skoda Fabia 1.2 Classic BMD Engine 2007 I intended to remove and examine the spark plugs today since I have new ones on the way (Bosch Super Plus FR7HC+ Spark Plugs). However, once I pulled the injectors out (which were a bit old I should probably get another 2 new ones) the spark plugs had loads of dust, little bits and even a small fly in the housing, I can imagine that once I pull out the plug there’s a small chance some of that will get in, or is it safe to pull out the spark plug and it would drag everything out with it. Ultimately, it’s better safe than sorry and if anyone has any advice on cleaning up the spark plug passages let me know! I should probably get new coils too right? Photos attached.

Hello Again
Hello all, I previously was the owner of a 1.2 04 Fabia in black, it actually didn’t start after I left it out a bit so I scrapped it. Was busy with work and the car needed a suspension overhaul. Yesterday I picked up 'red bean’ with a cyl. misfire No.1 and water pump issue. It was running absolutely sh**e, barely going past 10mph and the owner said it was an accelerator cable issue, which we promptly shut down and explained what it really was. I bought the car for a bargain. Fixed it all roadside (new coil, water pump and belt) with a local mechanic in MK (he was so cool). Then, I drove it back to london purring as it should. All systems Green you could say. about 40-45mpg for the motorway journey to london. I thought it's better to fix it in MK instead of towing it to London for 120+ and expensive labour (quoted £200 by a guy I know that has a garage) Here is a photo of the new pickup . Full service history, loads of receipts, arguable the top 5 best documented 6y2 Fabia in London I would like to say. New Clutch, New AUX belt, tensioner, water pump, serpentine belt, bushings, rear discs and a few more so I was well surprised to see it go for sale for so low. Red bean needs: Electric window upgrade - manual sucks! New key with central locking (using the spare) * New key barrel for N/S door * SPINS IN POSITION... Full service (pads, discs, plugs, oil, air and cabin filter) - nice way to bond with the car on a Sunday * AC Regas and leak test (still blows cold just hissing) Comfier seats, I always disliked these seats New front and rear bumper, there’s another car on FB marketplace that i really want this one to look like, but I don’t think I’ll have my wheels that big (he put the VRS ones on). Deffo need a digital screen like the ripspeed one that folds out. Front and Rear bumper - present ones are cracked - Could I fit rear bumpers with parking sensors in* All in all, the Skoda Fabia 1.2 HTP is so good, I bought it twice, and haven’t even bothered trying to find another car that is as well rounded as this beauty, wonderful engine sound in the first 3 gears, rolls well and is still a very good looking car in any city. Please welcome red bean to the forum and hopefully I can update as I go along, and try not to make the same mistakes as I did when I was working on Spotnik HTP-04 a couple years ago. * Urgent + advice needed, i.e; part numbers, youtube links, trusted garages in E. London. Photos attached: Red Bean parked on my friend's drive after getting fixed and up to scratch. Cyl. Misfire Code ( we took the coil from position 1 to 3 to test if the error code followed the faulty ignition coil, which it did as we can see here) Last photo is a general look of what I’d like the car to look like while it’s here in London. No VW wheels tho, probably Skoda Alloys they were nice.

Skoda Fabia Drum Solo
@sepulchravethat does not sound good at all. I’ll see what can be done but I imagine it’s not anything simple. cars being used for a delivery job so I hope it can work with me for a month or two.

Suspension Service
Fitted Anti Roll Bars/ Stabilisers. Very simple job when you realise you can use the weight of the car to get the bars out. Passenger side took me 1hr, driver side 20m. torqued to 40nm and it sounds so much better now. Now I think my strut mount bearing in the driver side is groaning when I’m turning (0-10mph) so hopefully I can sort that out soon before it breaks the coil again.
