I've given one part a clean. Item 2 on the diagram. So, I've cleaned the Throttle Valve control element, also known as the Throttle Body (TB). Below a user suggests it needs readapting. I guess this is the same as resetting it? The comment below shows the VCDS instructions to do so. . Clean Throttle Body - Oven Pride and Toothbrush - then wipe with baby wipes. EPC light is coming on randomly, and CEL is still on, I will have to get an OBD scanner for now to keep on top of the codes.- Another Fabia - 1.4 16V Metallic Grey
Got the top off and this is what the intake looks like. looks darker than my shadow bloody hell. going to use some oven cleaner and a toothbrush- Another Fabia - 1.4 16V Metallic Grey
I believe for this I’m unscrewing 4 Allen key bolts I think 5mm. Will I need to replace the seal once I have it lifted or will it be okay to recycle it? I will try to get at it this week. Currently filled with Tesco premium 99 fuel. Giving it ‘the full beans’ here and there. It’s managing it fine, I think the car was sitting for a while.- skoda fabia 2002 1.4 16v error p0401
"give it the full beans" mate this is perfect- Another Fabia - 1.4 16V Metallic Grey
A neighbor had some fault codes up - P0401 - EGR insufficient flow and P0106 MAP / barometric pressure circuit range/ performance. Had them cleared and they haven't come back on, the car is driving as it should I cant see or feel any issues. Will inspect the EGR and MAP sensor today hopefully.- Another Fabia - 1.4 16V Metallic Grey
@sepulchrave Yeah I have realised you have to punch it to get the power out. And @Breezy_Pete do you have a link for what I should pick up to get the VCDS setup going? I should have gotten this sorted on my first VAG car but time flies. 3 Fabias in, all mk1, and man I don't think there is a hatchback better than this budget and reliability-wise. Alas, the brake servo hose was checked already, even under, and ran my fingers across it all, no cracks, I saw on my 1,2 that there were these rubber hoses attached, does anyone know what they are called? Oil vapor separator I will have to find out about. And yeah the fuel filter I will have to find out where it is and check. I've read somewhere they don't need to be changed this early. but yeah Engine management light and EPC when I turn on Cruise control. It lags at low speeds one EPC is on but after I switch him on and off it is all good, only the CEL light remains. Thinking of getting the plate ST04 RMY. I will be opening up the top to check the spark plug's health, air filter, and how the plugs are looking. Although I am not sure of how to check the health of a coil pack.- Another Fabia - 1.4 16V Metallic Grey
Picked up a 1.4 BBZ Fabia elegance 2005 (55 plate) with circle fog lamps. Loving the extra power from the +1 cylinder and about 50hp more than my previous ones. I want to service it since it came with no history and the oil was practically empty - topped up 1.2l and it still needed a bit more. I used the 5w30 Quantam oil 504.00 . I hope thats fine for now. Service parts Oil Oil Filter Spark Plugs Cabin Filter Coil packs (engine feels like its running muted) Please feel free to add any links/ part numbers/Amazon links it would be a great help. The car didn't come with much but it did drive fine. I am looking to fix it up to keep then sell my red bean to a family friend. It has front wing damage and bumper damage where one of the fog lights is broken, also the passenger switch does not operate the window, but the driver-side ones work for both sides. I could try blowing on the connector because that worked last time. The car is a wonderful metallic grey, with alloys, heated seats, leather parts like the steering wheel, the gear gaitor, and the brake sleeve. Fancy. Also cruise control! but the EPC and Engine management light came on as soon as I activated it? I'm chuffed its a bit faster, 100bhp is a treat coming from 54 so hopefully it's punchier on small roads and smoother on long trips. I'll post a photo when I get my free monthly car wash and get the windows tinted again.- Weak Handbrake - rolling backwards
Hello all, wanted to make a post to see if there was any advice on where to start with having a weak handbrake. I’m pulling it all the way up and it is still not grabbing, but indeed groaning on a hill and rolling back. here is a photo of the adjuster near the cup holder section. I did want to check the drum brakes a couple of weeks ago but it was takin too long to take off and I’m missing a few safety tools to chock the wheels properly so I thought I’d save it for another day and find some jacks and chocks for a steal somewhere. please see photo attached.- High RPM Idle?
I had a trial for windows parallels once I may have to register again and try get another run of it. Will try to update thanks for the responses!- Remote Central Locking Installation Guide
Hello all. Had a couple Qs. For the installation, there is really no need to remove the door panel at all? My car doesn’t have electric windows. Also, for the resistor (my first time soldering anything) is there a spec to follow or any general 180ohm resistor will work. Are there any ideal alternatives for this step?? I am looking at the guide now and will be opening up the dash over the weekend to practice. I really do like the idea of getting the doors to open with the push of a button.- High RPM Idle?
What’s the cheapest entry to this device? Ive seen mentions of it around all the time, just not sure what to pickup exactly. I also have a MacBook so no windows around me, although i could use a program to emulate(?) the windows and use my laptop or will i not need that at all. Thanks mate- High RPM Idle?
Hello all. glad to see the weather getting relatively better in London. It was a good 15-18°c today so it was nice to drive with the windows down a bit. my Fabia 1.2 BMD engine has a slightly high idle. Wondering if anyone has any pointers to try and figure out what could be causing it. The idle was at about 800-950 On startup, when warmed up and during drives. the temp gauge is always just a bit over the halfway 90. And gets there fairly quick. Any pointers are appreciated.- Issue on my fiancée's 1.2htp
Sounds a bit like mine before I got the timing chain replaced... Check some of my videos on YT and let us know how you feel.- Remote Central Locking
Hello all, I bought my car back in November, unfortunate for the last 4 weeks I haven’t been able to drive it (other than starting it up and moving it around) because it wasn’t taxed and I had to order a new v5. Now that it’s taxed I am preparing it for sale. Im looking to sell the car after doing a brake service (front pads, rear drums and shoes + bleed). I will inspect it all soon but weather is terrible the next 10 days... funny enough. A few things have been bothering me, as the title suggests; does this car have remote central locking or is it completely manual? The windows are manual winding, there is a cassette player for the car instead of radio... I have attached a photo of the VAG code list The car only came with one key, my previous Fabia has RCL and Electric Windows, I kinda miss it now... Especially the flip out key.- Fabia 1.2 classic
Yeah I hear it completely. I have the car back now, the mechanic charged me £280 labour. I think that’s a great price. But still, trying to charge me 650 total for a job like this and claiming that the parts would cost anywhere near £300 seems a bit iffy to me. Nevertheless. My baby is purring; for a fraction of the price... I will upload a cold start tomorrow for before and after... He also advised to change the engine oil and filter to keep the new chain fresh, I know there’s a post in here about which oil to get so I will dive in a bit and try to find it. I will respond here with the oil and filter link for future reference. So far my repair expenses for the car are as follows ignition coil, water pump, timing kit & sealant = £30 + £45 + £65 & £15 = £155 Labour for coil + water pump(mobile repair), Labour for timing chain(garage repair)= £70 + £280 = £350 Total so far = £505 Tbh around here a handful of mechanics are happy to let customers source their own parts, a lot of the time we have golden methods of getting them at a crazy discounted rate, I actually got my timing chain kit for free so we can minus £65 from the £280 I paid making it a mere £215! every little helps. For now here’s a video of it after I drove the car back and parked up, you can see the sealant around the timing cover. Engine is warm.- Fabia 1.2 classic
Delayed a bit because I think the mechanic was messing me about. 650 for parts and labour 350 just labour? And not in a garage but mobile??? My kit was only £68… Went back to the mechanic that done my old Fabia’s bushings and control arms. £280 labour. Not bad. Will update further Tuesday. “If you wanna do it in a garage it’s gonna cost you an arm and a leg.” I’m not surprised since another ‘friend’ charged me £300 to change a water pump and serpentine belt. Maybe these guys just don’t like me lmao.- Fabia 1.2 classic
Who needs a proper Question? We had enough of those at school... Nevertheless, parts arrived. For future reference I hope someone that has this ruckus going on can instantly understand what’s going on, I’ll get my old chain and components back to show you guys what it looked like, although I don’t know how much indication of wear a chain can show. What’s really weird though, I started the car yesterday for a few moments, sounded completely fine. Drove it around, not too bad either. Warmed up, it sounded even better. Very perplexing considering the previous 3-4 cold starts sounded like I was blending stones.- Fabia 1.2 classic
Hello, New post for a new problem lets get it! So the horrible sound on startup (cold) is available to watch on youtube! A 10-15 second video of pure ear ache. The sound dies down significantly after it reaches good temperature. The sound increases in nastiness as I rev, but is almost hone when fully warmed up. Spoke to a mechanic that would charge me £300 for labour (he needs his partner in crime to get it done) I have heard that these are unlikely to jump and screw the engine, but I don’t want to risk it so I am letting the Fabia sit idle until the repair session is due. Maybe he will do less, he is my closest friend's pops. I have picked up this kit from trusty amazon; https://amzn.to/41NELG4 I’d take any recommendations for parts if this isn’t what I need. Here is the link for the show; I'm taking any 2 pennies worth of opinions, foresight and passing comments. God I love these Fabias.- Engine bay noise. 1.2htp
We have a noise coming from the belt/ pulley/ pump section. I have uploaded a video to YT if anyone would like to have a gander. The video is about a minute long, I’ve tried to get a few angles in for anyone with sharper ears. recent work mm/yy Oil + filter (11/22) Starter Motor aux belt + tensioner (07/23) water pump (11/23) belt (11/23) 1 /3 ignition coil 11/23 3/3 spark plugs (12/23) link here- Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
Im getting no smiles per gallon though. Not even a smirk. I am also paying a grand a year for insurance. On a 54bhp vehicle. My god. I love this car to bits but the world we live in- Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
Wire brush sounds good. And yeah I have 1 spare new plug right now. For the coil packs, I will have to look when I get back downstairs to the car. I will edit below with the dates I find. And yeh I realised after I read your post you meant the coil packs. I’m wanting to take the car for a spin expecting some performance gain but I’m dreaming. My neighbour just took me for a ride in his r36 wagon. Beautiful… What am I doing with a 3 pot?- Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
09/14 on the ring under the hexagon. any advice on cleaning?- Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
Old plugs + New one for reference (spare). Photo Attached. The quality isn’t as good as when i took it on my phone because the max file size to upload is 5mb. Here are my other two ignition coils.- Spark Plugs 1.2 HTP
The spark plugs are arriving on Thursday, I intended to clear out the gunk from the spark plugs but the engine was pretty hot and the air coming out the duster was super cold so I think I’ll leave it until the end of the week. I did change the air filter though, I want to change the cabin filter too but I just gave the old one a clean and dug out all the dust in the gaps instead. I think the car needs a big brake service next... Pads, drums and shoes. Is it worth bleeding the brakes too? Not my forte by any means but worth learning right... - Another Fabia - 1.4 16V Metallic Grey
