  1. I've been looking for Mac software to do this. The most promising was a program from 2Canoes but it looks like it's been discontinued. I've been reading about ApplePi Baker but I don't have the knowledge to ascertain if it will do the job. I want to be able to store more music files on my Octy 3 Amundsen media unit. I have everything stored as .flac
  2. I like the female voice but it's somewhat ridiculous when she begins every sentence with please. I'd be happy with French seeing as I'm learning the language - as long as it doesnt say 'S'il vous plaît xxxx
  3. I sold the old Mk2 yesterday. I was sad to see it go and I realised I had driven 100,000 miles in it. I've been very happy with that car. I hope the new owner is able to keep it going for many years to come. As for the Mk3, I've got used to the petrol engine - still have a preference for the diesel but it's quiet and powerful. Just more important to be in the right gear. Back to searching for the right replacement tyres on the front which we'll need for a trip to France - if nobody stops us going.
  4. Thanks Gordo. Yes it does have the rear lights in your photo. I like the car more every time I drive it. I have discovered the rear wash isn't working. The salesman has asked the service people to call me to arrange to look at it.
  5. I have a 18 plate Octavia 3 SE L and I enjoy listening to internet radio. I have considered using a wifi hotspot device to provide an internet connection. Am I correct in thinking the media unit has no internet browser built in and that I need to use my iPhone instead to provide my internet radio service?
  6. I measured temperatures this afternoon with a thermometer on the driver's seat which was in shade. Mk2 with clear glass 43C Mk3 with tinted glass 37C Outside air temp in shade 24C There may have been other factors affecting temperature - different upholstery, different paint colour - bluey grey on Mk2 Both cars appeared to equally exposed to the sun. A 5 degree difference is pretty good if it's mainly down to the tint.
  7. I just like the way the diesel pulls strongly from little over 1000rpm and fewer gear changes are needed with the five speed box. Are the rear windows more tinted? I haven't noticed. Will compare from inside. The tinting has meant my wife hasn't needed to wear her sunglasses. I would have thought heat insulated glass on a car was to keep the ir out rather than reflect it back in as happens in a house. I didn't find much out searching online. I will compare temperatures between my mk2 (clear) and mk3 though the paint colour is darker on the mk3.
  8. We went to the Welsh coast in it in the week. It returned 56mpg and was comfortable and reasonably quiet. The 1.5 petrol engine was smooth and powerful though I still have a preference for diesel. We like the tinted windows, sat nav and media player. The aircon failed on my Mk11 and it's great to have it on the new one at the moment. We are happy with the purchase but I'm missing having a diesel.
  9. It filters fine pollutants from the air. I was reading about it earlier. We have a Philips machine in the house that does something similar. My wife suffers a lot being sensitive to allergens and I'm sure it will be a benefit to us. It is fitted to our Octavia 3 SE L To clarify a comment above (seeing as a link is broken) the aircon will switch to recirculating the cabin air if the outside air is too poor in quality.
  10. Could you please explain how to do this?
  11. I hear the French Police take a very dim view of drivers using satnav with speed camera locations. I wondered if anyone had any encounters.
  12. The Skoda All-in is over 24 months. I don't know about the cambelt. I need to spend an hour sitting in the car learning how all the gadgets work.
  13. It's the SE L It's good to finally own a car with modern multimedia and satnav.
  14. I collected my Mk3 today. I've only so far driven it from the showroom to home. It's very shiny! I discovered it had already had the body and interior coating the salesman wanted me to have. Very impressed so far. We'll go out for a ride in it tomorrow. I decided to take out the Skoda All-In cover from day one.
  15. I managed to find a link to the Amundsen manual for my Octavia 3. Looks like I will need to alter some of my music files as max sample rate 48khz and I've saved some as 96kHz. The car will need new tyres before long. Any recommendations for quiet running tyres that have plenty of wet weather grip? I must find the tyre test website. The Mk4 I tested seemed to have very noisy tyres - forgot to note what they were.
  16. Hi Gordo GT, I decided early on I wanted one with the leather and alcantara seats and narrowed my search to a Mk3 facelift SE L. That model as a bonus gives me led headlights and sat nav though I'm not sure the latter will be as good as one I can use on my iphone with the benefit of dynamic routing. I will collect the car next Friday so I can't comment on anything else yet. I'm not sure what the colour is apart from being a vibrant blue. I can't put my finger on it but I preferred my test drive in the Mk3 to the Mk4. I know I prefer directly controlled functions like heating/cooling. As a cyclist and motorcyclist I would prefer that drivers spent as much time as possible concentrating on driving and not fiddling with touchscreens.
  17. We settled on a car we tested today. It was initially a demonstrator, then owned by a local private individual who went on to trade it in against a new car there. It's three years old - or was in March. We are considering the two year warranty/mot/service/breakdown service offering from Skoda at £32 month. One odd thing - all the rubber seals that lie outside the windows were damaged. The dealer is going to replace them foc.
  18. When I find the car I'm looking for it will have an Amundsen media unit. I see on the forum lots of threads about the firmware but could someone tell me the bare bones of it? Will I need to buy map updates officially or can I find a freebee on here.
  19. John I see your point about variability in driving and brake use. I was unaware of the tyre date code. I have emailed the dealer telling them I decided not to proceed - mainly because of a nagging doubt about the reason for changing the tyre. It could have been quite innocent - a puncture in the sidewall for instance but the doubt is there. I agree with Erroll's sentiments about waiting for the right car to come along and resisting the urge to compromise. I am after all buying a car 2-3 years old and Intend to cover many miles abroad.
  20. Just thinking - the car yesterday had plenty of brake pad material on the rear but I think the front pads were down to about 3mm. That seems a lot of wear for 15k miles
  21. I agree that there must be a very healthy profit in selling the paint protector. I think this £99 'admin fee' is a joke. The young salesman was very likeable and efficient but I had to stifle a chuckle when he said showing the fee separately was more transparent. What's the story on dealers who advertise a car then tell you it's 'in transit'. One I was interested in has been on Car Guru two months but still in transit. I thought they had cleared the Suez Canal
  22. I felt quite happy about buying the car apart from concerns about whether it had hit a kerb or other object at speed. I think the leather/alcantara seats are probably more difficult to bring back to looking like new. The car had only done 15000 miles with two services. It must have been a trade in against a Nissan. One problem is that reconditioning the wheel could take till the end of the month so probably best to wait and see if something better comes along anyway. I think my wife is right too (of course) when she tells me white cars always look less than perfectly clean. These salespeople are very keen to sell their paintwork protector at £300 a pop!
  23. Opened a new thread now we know what we want in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 onward)
