  1. Hi, oil was topped up but filter wasn't changed. Been using the car without problem.
  2. Hi, I just went to start my octavia and it barely turned over and sounded awful. I tried once more but it just sounded so bad I stopped it immediately. Also an oil pressure warning came up on the dash. I checked and it has oil. Does this sound like something that can be fixed or could it be catastrophic? I don't want to pump money into if its dead. Thanks
  3. Thanks, I checked the oil. Was a little low so topped up, it looks like this: bearing in mind, that the car hasn't run today and it's freezing. Am I right thinking that it's best to let the car run and cool down a bit to an accurate oil level? Thanks
  4. Thanks for the replies. Engine: 2013 petrol Octavia 1.4 TSI 103KW It was serviced at a VAG specialist in my area and I'm only assuming that they didn't reset was needed to be reset. How do I check this? Not sure what oil was used, doesn't state on the invoice. Assuming they didn't use the correct oil and the fact that we do a lot of short trips ( 5/6 miles 2x a day generally) should I look to get the oil changed now? Thanks
  5. Hi, Looking for some advice please. Over the last couple of weeks I've had a series of "Change oil in 900, 800, 700 etc miles" warnings. The problem is warning is not tracking the actual miles, so it's gone from "change in 900 miles" to "change oil now" in the with the car only having done about 100 actual miles. The car was only serviced in May last year and the oil was changed then. It has done about 8k miles since then. Is it due an oil change or could it be something wasn't reset when the service was done? Thanks
  6. Hi, Just wondering if it should be 5w30 or 5w40? I keep finding conflicting answers. Any particular brand? Thanks
  7. Thanks, where would be the best place to get something like that? a dealership? I also need to get a spare and toolkit. It's a 2013 estate btw. Thanks
  8. Hi, some help please? I recently bought a used MK3 octavia and it didn't come with a locking wheel nut key. I'm just trying to work out if my wheels need one, I'm not sure they do from what I can tell. Can any one confirm please?
  9. Ah sorry, my mistake. It is a MK3.
  10. Thanks. The reason I ask is that I have a deposit down on an Octavia that has some slight damage around that grille/vent. In fixing it they have completely covered the area with another material and I'm slightly concerned that the grille/vent shouldn't be covered over
  11. Hi, Slightly random, this area on the dashboard: Is it purely cosmetic or is it an outlet or something (I don't yet own an Octavia so I can't check). Thanks
  12. Many thanks for all the replies, they have been really helpful. Unfortunately. the car I had my eye on has been taken but I will keep on looking. Cheers
  13. Thanks. Is there anywhere online where I can find out what should have been replaced and when on a Skoda of this age?
  14. The one I am looking at is a 2012 1.4 TSI 121BHP. Does that equate to 121 PS? What does Euro/5/6 mean? Thanks
  15. Hi, thanks for the reply. The one I am looking at is a manual gearbox. Is the DSG more preferable? Not enquired about the extent of the FSH, will find out and come back with answer. Is it better to avoid older engines with timing chains? It won't be a diesel. Thanks
  16. Hi, I am after some buying advice please. I've never owned one before and I'm weighing up the idea of buying an older Skoda. I have my eye on a 2012 Octavia Estate 1.4 TSI with FSH and 60k miles. It will be a family car and we only do around 8k miles a year. What's the general consensus about older Skodas? Are they reliable? I guess this more of a question of how well the car had been treated but are there certain engines that should be avoided? Thanks
