  1. I remember checking the tick box in the Navigation settings when I first got my Scala to turn this on. Now it is becoming irritating as I cannot turn it off and the option has disappeared from the settings. I don't need guidance most of the time and switch off the main Infortainment screen but this keeps coming back. Any ideas as to how to restore the on/off check box in settings ( behind the 3 dot icon iin the bottom right corner of the map screen)? The manual shows it but no explanation as to how or why it might disappear.
  2. I have had mine since April. Done a tour of Northumberland, a trip over to Devon and several across to Thanet, plus the usual wandering around home on the Surrey/Sussex border. With 1.5 engine it is surprisingly quick if you need to overtake caravan/horsebox/tractor/pensioner (delete as applicable). The gearbox does its stuff almost imperceptably. I regularly cross the North Downs with some very steep gradients; no sweat going up or down. The box holds itself in 3rd or 4th on the way down until I touch the accelerator. It is easy to spin the front wheels on take off but that may be the tyres. It has a decent sized boot; bigger than a Golf or Audi. My only beef is the digital dash and infotainment. Whereas actual buttons/switches/knobs can be operated with one hand without taking my eyes off the road, it is far too easy to get distracted by touch screen menus. I have scared myself a couple of times when I realise I have driven half a mile or so without looking at the road. In short I reckon it's an Audi for Fiat money.
  3. Oh right. But I think exKiwi has hit it. Revs did drop to 800 when I turned off the climate control but as the aircon is part of that, it has to be on, particularly on these damp Autumnal mornings. That would make sense as my wife's older car has separate aircon and fan settings. I guess I have to adapt and go into N when stopped.
  4. Thankk you for the comment but I have no idea what GPF means nor WLTP/RDE.
  5. Been running around for a couple of days but revs stay resolutely at 1000 regardless.
  6. I was having a poke around earlier and there is quite a lot of room for a tray but how to make it easily accessible and not have it shooting out under my feet in the event of a suddden stop. It seems the Roomster had these as original fittings. There are a couple of posts by people who have retro fitted them on the Roomster. Seems as though I should have a mooch around the local dealer's yard to check whether they are standard on other models with seats similar to the Scala. If not then B&Q for a suitable tray.
  7. "expecting a hill start", yes, maybe. I'll give it a go tomorrow when I am out and about. It's cold at the moment and I don't want to waste fuel warming up.
  8. With regard to the original statement about the high revs, my new Scala 7 speed DSG is the first automatic I have owned for many years. I have always driven manual cars and vans but my wife has always had autos of various makes (including a DAF, remember them?) All the petrol cars have ticked over at 800 rpm whereas the Skoda stays at 1000. I have always gone into neutral and applied the hand brake in my manual but left my my wife's autos in drive with the hand brake on, no problem. However the higher revs on the Skoda mean it tries to pull away against the brake. In the old days I would have taken a screwdriver to the carb and turned it down but I can't do that now and the dealer tells me they can't either. It raises the question, am I doing something wrong? Is it a peculiarity of VW Group DSGs that the revs stay high? I have driven various Audis and VWs and never noticed it. It isn't spoiling my enjoyment of the car.
  9. Thank you, JR, lots to think about there and in the process of finding it several other avenues have opened up.
  10. I really could do with some more interior storage for maps, guides and my business note pad etc. The glove box is not deep enough for much and the seat back pockets are barely enough for one book. Has anybody found any underseat trays for the Scala? That would be ideal. I am sure I read a review somewhere when they were mentioned.
  11. I have it on my 21 Scala. Got it in April so I haven't had any frost yet to try it seriously but it does de-mist very quickly. I can see the wires if I look hard enough in the right light but normally I don't notice.
  12. I got my new Scala back in April and have done some 2500 miles; a trip down to Devon, another up to Newcastle and a couple of times over to Thanet, plus the normal running around locally. The car performs perfectly and I am very impressed with the 7 speed DSG gearbox. The last time I owned an automatic it was a Vauxhall Viva with just 3 gears. My bug bear is the Infotainment which is so extremely irritating that I have it turned off most of the time. On this topic, coming home from Thanet the other night on the M25 near the M23 junction to Gatwick, the "SOS emergency visit workshop" message flashed up on the right hand side of the digital instrument panel. It was gone in a flash but a yellow triangle came on in the top bar and "SOS" in yellow in the bottom bar. Unusually for the M25 we were all going along at 70ish, 4 lanes. In a bit of a panic I checked the oil and water temperatures, normal, no other warning signs, no funny noises or smells. I left the M25 at Reigate and drove the 20 odd miles home, no trouble at all. The following morning in daylight I checked to car over and started the engine, no triangle, no SOS, oil and water levels correct. Now I have read this topic I have emailed the dealer as a warrantee claim and they have booked me in for a fix. We shall see. This is not the first software glitch. I had to take it back in the first fortnight as it would not recognise me as "Prime User". Since then Skoda Assist features have turned themselves off a couple of times as well.
  13. Contacted customer services by email. They replied next day advising me to contact dealer. They had advised dealer to contact me. Young dealer rep stood in torrential rain next to car to run me through a couple of times before sending car to workshop for reset. Now recognised as PU and able to connect with Skoda App.
  14. Picked up my new Scala last Wednesday. It asks me to become Primary User each time I get in but when I go through the drill with the 2 keys, it ponders it for a minute or 5 and then says, "contact customer services".
  15. Not sure if this is the right way to intro myself but I bought a Skoda Scala last week having been loosely connected to the motor trade for 30 odd years (some very odd) and heard almost all makes of car slagged off except Lexus/Toyota and Skoda. Why not a Lexus/Toyota? They are now all hybrids.
