  1. I have to agree that all of the acidic cleaners should only be used relatively infrequently and only if really needed. I use WW or Autoglym in those cases which is about twice a year. Normally I use Meguiars quick detailer on mine and they leave some sort of coating that seems to make it easier next time I clean them. I do them weekly on both cars even if I don't have time to wash the cars. I too do a high mileage (in the Leon) of 800 miles a week and by Friday, they need it!
  2. I'd agree that the dealer has advised correctly. Long life oils will see him good and the fact that the dealer would get more business from him in terms of services if they had advised him otherwise would also point to there being nothing in it for them to say "variable" unless it was the best option.
  3. Sirs car might be cool right up to the point where the tin snail gets bolted to the back. Then the tables turn!! :P Enjoy the car, and hope it treats you well (despite the caravan)!
  4. Thanks all! I can see/understand why they do it and as long as the dealer sorts it for me without any real hassle, then I've no problem with the process. Its just a pain that I can't use my new toys to the full!!
  5. Also the webbing finish on the standard seats frays very easily if you snag it or pull a thread. Our kiddie seat has already made a small mark on one seat. We have leather in our 54 plate Leon and its wearing fairly well although it has never looked especially plush if you know what I mean. A mate of mine had a Golf MKIV leathered up after market for £1300 and it was a top job with good quality leather and till looks fantastic 4 years later.
  6. Mine is actually prompting for the code! Ah well...... wednesday will sort it one way or another. Thanks all the same guys.
  7. Following a "small" amount of work to fit maxi-dot, cruise and bluetooth my radio wants its security code re-entering. A simple thing you'd think but not so....... The dealership don't have a record of the code. Skoda do not pass on the codes to customers anymore (or to dealerships - although in my view, its my car therefore its my radio and my code) They can't "trick" the ECU into remembering the radio. They want the car for the day to get it recoded (but have offered a courtesy car) They initially wanted to charge, then without prompt said they'd do it for good will! Still, credit to the dealer (ie Service Manager) in that they have commited to sorting it out on Wednesday FOC for us and have helped us considerably with a courtesy car. Hopefully it won't be a prolonged issue. So until then, no bluetooth and no music.:(
  8. Big thanks to VRSTU for a massive load of work put in to day on my car to fit Bluetooth Cruise Control and Maxi-Dot!!!! Well worth the 400 or so mile round trip to get this all completed. Stu has put in a good load of hours on my car today and I'd like to again express my thanks to him. Absolute top bloke. Also thanks to his Mrs for allowing me to take up so much of his time today. The bluetooth kit audio component works without maxi-dot installed, but you can't control the phone via the car, or get any messages on the cars display. You really need maxi-dot to make the most out of it........ The clock bin was swapped for a maxi-dot item and its the business. For some reason, the radio demanded its code which I don't have as my dealer didn't supply it to me. Until I get the radio back on I can't use the bluetooth any more!! Off to the dealership tomorrow to get the code soted. But the dash now looks so much better. If your getting an Octy, order the maxi-dot. The cruise contol is excellent. I already have it in the Leon although this one allows you to reduce speed via the stalk which the Leon (MK1) doesn't. Also, thanks to Makefish for the drive of his car. I now know how good his mods are first hand and I need all of them fitted to my car! All of them. The lot. Lock stock.:auto: Great to meet you both and chat in person!
  9. Is there anyone nearby you that could plug in and take a look ? (assuming you are willing of course! ).
  10. I think that you hold the switch in for 3 seconds and it resets or somthing similar. It works by monitoring the ABS sensors for wheel speed and detects when the circumference of the wheel has reduced (since the relative speed of the wheel will change) and flags you a warning. There is no sensor inside the tyre or anything like that. They talk about it in the manual as to how to perform the reset. Hope this helps.
  11. Get new, big wheels for the non-winter tyres and go back to standard wheels and sizes for the winter time. Costs more but will look awesome for 3 seasons of the year!
  12. Has to be something of a record mate. Hope it all gets sorted smoothly and easily.
  13. Welcome chap! Bluefin.......... tell me more ? How are you getting on with it, how many miles on it, any knock-on issues (eg clutch slip) etc ? Good colour choice by the way!
  14. When comparing against a 7 year old car, I think much of what you say shows more about how cars have advanced in their packaging more than how poor the Mondeo is. I'm no fan of Ford especially, but they certainly aint no VW brand! I'd be interested to drive a comparable spec new Mondeo. I think price will kill it for me more than any major advancement in quality or toys though - plus the Octy has excelent handling and that engine (in the VRS)!
  15. 43.5mpg ??? That's almost something to be ashamed of in a sporty motor!!!
  16. Hope its lived upto xpectations mate. I love picking up a new car so I know how you must have been feeling the last few days. Enjoy it!
  17. Welcome to Briskoda chap. Which remap did you go for ?
  18. I too had the same mental discussion of Golf GTi vs VRS and have no regrets about my decision to go with the VRS. The Golf GT will never be the the car for me as its too far behind the GTi and VRS on power so it was removed from the equation very quickly and very easily! My VRS is fine. There was a creak in the suspension but now its done 1300miles its gone away. Build quality is fine. Some of the plastics aren't upto VW or Audi standards of quality but then its his sort of thing that makes the cars price tag lower! It certainly does not feel like a compromise though.
  19. Isn't the oil light more about "GET ME SOME OIL RIGHT NOW OR YOU WILL DAMAGE ME BADLY" ? Do not service your car at that dealer - sounds like a right muppet with bad advice like that. Does he also recommend checking trye pressures just as your rims begin to generate sparks from the road surface ?
  20. AFAIK its 12k per year on the mileage assumptions. Over and bove that is about
  21. Go to a local, industry affiliated, insurance approved bodyshop and pay if needs be for a report. Then take them to small claims court for the repair costs and your report costs if they still refuse to put it right and refund you your out of pocket expenses.
  22. Don't go purely by percentages - don't forget that its the amount of cold hard cash that you loose on a car. Also, factor in running costs like servicing and the likes over your ownership period and planned mileage. I have a guarenteed future value on my VRS TFSi on the finance plan of
