Loud squealing and metallic scraping sound last night.
The way I would describe it was like pads down to the rivets but also maybe worse than that, should have seen the looks I was getting driving through Sheffield city centre! Then it just stopped and has not come back so maybe was just a stone that flicked up and got caught between something like disc or driveshaft etc, it also had a new wheel bearing while under warranty at Skoda. It's now done 76k miles so now under average for its age as well.

Running at normal oil temp, normal coolant temp, no lack of power, no smoke drives perfectly fine today. It's always used some oil since I bought it in 2023, in fact every diesel car, van and truck I've ever driven use some oil over time. Like I said I put maybe a litre max maybe only half a litre in to get it to halfway on the dipstick, tbh I should check it more often than i do. I don't think I've checked it since it's service and MOT in November. Naughty me. I always let it complete dpf regens, never seen the dpf light on unless it's near 100% soot loading and I force it to do a field regen at a suitable time for me with carista. I don't drive it hard very often and never from cold. Never had any warning lights on dash in my ownership. It's like it never happened took it for another road test after having a look round everything, no obvious leaks or anything. It's a right Toyah Wilcox (anyone of a similar age to me will get that).

Loud squealing and metallic scraping sound last night.
Was heading to city Hall last night for a night out. Came off M1 and as I slowed on the slip road the car started making an awful scraping sceexhing sound, like metal on metal. Limped it down the Parkway and it was awful, sounded like I was murdering the car. At a stop it wasn't making any noises, as soon as I pulled away it made it again and was really really loud, didn't seem to really alter with road speed like it was brake related and didn't realize change frequency or pitch with rotation of the wheels, just whenever moving. FSH car with Skoda, had a new water pump and timing belt on it, aux belt looks fine, pads and discs as I expected are still almost like new. As I put ferodo discs and oads on front maybe within last year and brembo discs and lads on read before MOT in Dec. After a while of limping it to the car park the noise just went away on its own I was gonna call my breakdoen out after the concert but I tried it and it was fine to drive. Making no noise this morning that is obvious but I can hear an odd noise around the timing belt area that I can't say if has always been present. Really don't know what to think anyone has something similar on a VRS diesel? It's gotten me a bit worried as it's my only car and I need it Sunday for work. It was low on oil again mind it was serviced late Nov maybe a litre ir so needed, it does seem to use a bit of oil but again I think that seems to be normal with this engine. I'm at a loss with it right now.

Headlight part numbers for combi
2007 MK1 1.9TDI estate. I'm trying to find correct part numbers for the headlights but I'm struggling. Anyone got or able to get me the part numbers required at all please? I'd be eternally grateful if anyone can help. Can provide vin number via pm if required. It's 6Y6 vin number. I could do with sourcing them before this weekend to get them fitted for its MOT. not my car I've got an Octavia VRS dirty diesel. 🤣 Simon

Enabling TSR Oct 3 VRS diesel.
Well I downloaded the 2024/25 map data for the inbuilt sat nav but I use Waze or Google maps on android auto mostly anyway. But thought it was worth updating it for the speed limit info. Would help if the instruction on the sat nav portal actually told you exactly how to do it, but use the original SD card, save the contents off the card just in case, download the correct mapping by checking the version on the car first, unzip the files you download with 7 zip or any zip program. Copy the maps folder to the SD card and the checksum file and then pop the card back into the card and hey Presto. Oh and format it fat32 or exact dependant upon the size of the card. Have not been out to see if it's solves some of the errors on speed limits yet though. But don't expect much hope.

It seems from some googling that menu is not available on all cameras so seems to be camera dependant possibly. I googled it and found a thread saying that. Cause in adaptions on OBD11 I have nothing like that.

Enabling TSR Oct 3 VRS diesel.
Bear in mind I'm using OBD11 not VCDS, Controller A5 (Front / front view camera) 16 - Security Access - enter 20103 10 - Adaptations Select channel Display end of speed limit symbol Change to activated Actually it is that I'm struggling to find sorry got a little muddled up there as to what I couldn't find. If I go into adaptions after entering the security code I don't have anything that resembles that. I have noticed on a few 30mph roads it says the speed limit is 60mph and does drop back to 30mph after a while it also shows it as 60 on the factory nav, it also shows a lot of 30mph limits as 20mph as well. I suspect to update the nav mapping id need a newer version on an SD card?

Huh that has worked this time although I can't find that channel 151 menu display threshold adaptation for some reason. Not sure what difference that will make. Just been out and it's shows road signs and changes and tells me if I exceed the speed limit into one.

Enabling TSR Oct 3 VRS diesel.
Anyone managed to get this working on a facelift car? I've followed several guides and end up with a maxi dot message saying dynamic road sign error. And it doesn't work, from what I can't tell this is something to do with the road information from the sat nav not being available or being able to be read. I have the A5 camera and it's 3Q0 starting I have the Amundsen standard sat nav I think. Is it a Multimedia issue or something else? Any ideas?

How to see a DPF regen on head unit guide.
Well it never changed the distance or time between regens but that may the cheap dongle I may try out a carista one next and see if I can get more info from a better dongle. Interestingly I had an expectation it would try to regen yesterday and it briefly said regen in on progress a couple of times. And sure enough this morning on the way home it started doing a regen. I drove for around 40 mins and it was still reporting it was doing a regen, which I thought is far too long. My average fuel for the trip was 48mpg as I got home so I assumed it had finished and the software is not as accurate as I hoped. Exhaust temps were down to around 400° by this time so I went home and parked up and no fan running, so I suggest it had completely next time I will watch the exhaust temp and see how long it stays at 600° plus for and then when it drops below 600° try parking up and see if the fan continues to run. Since it completed a regen coming back from Cov on Saturday every day I am getting mid 40's to high 40's mpg on my 9 mile commute to work, I know the weather is warmer and that does make the economy better a bit, but every day this week I've achieved mid to high 40's mpg even coming home at night getting similar figures, before I would have struggled to hot 40mpg a lot of the time. So again time will tell and especially when the weather drops colder as I notice a dramatic drop in fuel consumption in the cold weather and the same with stop start traffic it really seems to kill the mpg.

Anyone upgraded the sound actuator??
I meant to say in my post louder than 100% obviously, the volume can be adjusted somewhat in OBD11 or VCDS as you suggest. But I think the OP wants to make it much louder than even the 100% setting will allow. At least that is how I read it.
-
DCC Retrofit, possible?
Possibly doable but won't be cheap and not simple. Will possibly need shocks and all associated parts, plus changing your gateway module I would think plus some coding done at the very least. That's just a guess off the top of my head though. But as with most things with enough money and knowledge and the right software it could be done. But the question is whether it is really worth the cost and effort if it can be done.
-
Anyone upgraded the sound actuator??
Can't say I can find anything relating to making it louder, changing the firmware for different sounds was the best I could find. Tbh it's a gimmick anyway, it doesn't do anything other than make some fake engine sound inside the car. Each to their own I guess but it's like people who have nosiy exhausts and make the car sound horrendous inside for effect. Waste of time in my opinion.
-
How to see a DPF regen on head unit guide.
Average time and distance are still at zero so don't think that will change tbh, could be the Dongle I bought and better one night give more info, carista dongles should work I think and maybe allow more info but I'll see how it goes for now. I didn't want to spend much in case it didn't work so might try and carista one later one.

DPF Warning Light Came on Briefly
Just came back the this thread, adblue is nothing to do with a DPF, adblue is injected into the exhaust to turn the nitrous oxide into harmless (allegedly) nitrogen and water. So the 2 are fairly unrelated other than lowering emissions, both are just ways of making diesel's cleaner. Having adblue brings it's own issues like making sure the adblue is topped up, costs to add the adblue to that tank and also dosing injector issues if you use cheap adblue or it crystallizes. I would urge owners with the adblue system to use only decent quality adblue. Thankfully my VRS doesn't use adblue so I don't have to worry about it.

You also can clear and read basic error codes with it from the engine ECU, but I have my OBD 11 and also launch diagnostics for other stuff anyway.

How to see a DPF regen on head unit guide.
I've also got average time between regens showing and average distance between regens. Bit showing 0 at the moment so not sure if they will populate over time as well or not but will keep updated if they do. It would be handy if they do populate as again would give an idea of how many miles between regents and also time based. Which also would help in predicting when it is doing one. I can't say I rarely ever notice regens in my Octavia compared to my old Focus I had some years back, that was so obvious when it did regens. Smoke billowing out the exhaust and very hesitant and stuff, but can hardly tell mine is doing them, usually the only reason I know is I park up and hear the fan running after turning off and ticking from exhaust and a slight smell, never smells like my old Focus did doing a regen.
