  1. Some simple sums based on the Uk Kodiaq configurator for Sportline spec. Feel free to point out all the flaws, but if they’re not material perhaps the model holds up… Basic prices: 1.5 dsg £37k. 2.0 tsi or 2.0tdi 150 - £4K more 2.0tdi (200bhp) £5.5k more Skoda claim 10mpg difference at best among all those engines Model assumptions 10k miles a year 28mpg average (1.5tsi) 38mpg (2.0tdi150) 5p difference between petrol and diesel Fuel costs for 1.5dsg (petrol 28mpg) £2354 Fuel costs for 2.0dsg (diesel 38mpg) £1794 Difference £560 every 12m. If I divide the cost of the £4K engine upgrade cost by £560 savings each year it would get me - it would take 7.14 years to break even. Even if I got 20% discount on the 4K cost - we’re still talking 5.7 years. If I do less than 10k miles (we will do about 6k probably) then it’s £336 a year and would take over ten years of fuel savings to recoup.
  2. I have a new 1.5tsi dsg. Got 41 on a long motorway run at the weekend, never seen a number like that yet. Shorter runs - stop and start - we get about 32mpg and we live in the countryside. No surprise though as it’s a big, heavy car and getting two tons moving is no mean feat. We have a much smaller car to run around in if needed, which is more convenient to park in the town and sips diesel. if we compared the Kodiaq to others a similar size and weight - is there a dramatic fuel difference? I’m guessing not but would be interested if anyone has done this comparison. Off the top of my head an X5, Tiguan Allspace, F-pace, XC90 - any of them dramatically more efficient?
  3. My 18m old swings his feet into the back of the car seat and is catching the seat pocket (sportline). If I don’t find a way to protect it soon, it’s going to be trashed. Does anybody know a seat cover that just covers the back of a sport line seat? Even if it was some sort of object arranger/pocket that they can put things in. Just something to stop his heel digging in to the pocket and pulling at it… thanks

  5. Ditto on both accounts - lights are amazing. Camera - it’s filthy after a few drives and not much use at that point. My wife appreciates it though so probably worth it, but I’m glad It was part of the standard spec and I didn’t pay extra money for it
  6. I have an analogue dash and the middle dash section (the digital bit) randomly changes too. I prefer to have it on the speedometer. I get in the next day and it changes to something else - and I have no idea why. Very annoying!
  7. It’s very frustrating. I just opened it up. It says ‘updated a few seconds ago’ and the drivers door is open. It absolutely is not! If I press manual refresh (curved arrow) then it updates correctly. Whatever the initial update process is when the app opens / it doesn’t work on my phone / car.
  8. I have spin enabled, am the primary user and have biometric set too. It’s always wrong when I open the app. Happens on my driveway, happens at the supermarket etc. it always seems to need me to press the refresh button and wait 10-20 seconds. it’s like either the app isn’t pulling down the data (background refresh on iPhone is enabled) or something is wrong during the information update when the app opens. Maybe the mobile reception for the e-sim is weak. But that doesn’t explain why it works when I press refresh… I’ve tried reloading the app, doesn’t help.
  9. When I open the MySkoda app up, it ALWAYS shows the wrong locking status (unlocked), and often a door showing as open too. The only way I can get it to show correctly, is by manually pressing the refresh arrow. Fairly useless, I expect it to be corrected during the app startup process, but that doesn’t happen. I want to escalate this with Skoda but am trying to understand how many other people this is affecting so I can explain it’s not just me. I have a brand new sportline. Please reply if you have the same problem, with the Kodiaq model year, and whether you’re using the app on an iPhone or android. cheers

  11. Today when I got in my brand new sportline, it had associated with my wife’s iphone that she had with her rather than mine which was in the wireless charging bay. So music, messages etc were all from the wrong phone. I eventually found an option in the media menu that had a setting to change it over to my phone. Bit of a faff though. Does anyone know if there’s a super fast way to switch between CarPlay phones?
  12. Have just been reading around this - it seems that there’s a two second auto-hold feature where it keeps the park brake on after you release the brake pedal, provided you’re on a gradient. On an auto that two seconds presumably is hard to detect as the box picks up the forward motion even if you haven’t pressed the gas pedal yet. In the manual Polo I had, I foolishly assumed it would only release when it detected forward motion from the abs (because why would you ever want an automatic brake to let go so you went backwards…) oops. Am I right in assuming the only other situation the Kodiaq would automatically put the park brake on, is when you turn the car off?
  13. Sounds like I am not alone in my thoughts on this topic then! Perhaps a slightly different angle on the same question, would be under what conditions will the automatic hold come on, and more importantly - release? i am slightly nervous of this feature when driving around because I once hired a VW Polo (manual) with auto hold, and it seemingly randomly released on me several times on steep hills in Madeira in traffic queues. It was rather disconcerting…
  14. This might sound like a daft question but after three weeks of ownership I’m struggling to figure out when I would bother to use the parking brake manually. I have an auto - so it just gets thrown in park whenever we leave the car (we have a level driveway) and although I haven’t been far in it, this far I’ve not run into a situation where the foot brake wasn’t perfectly adequate. I am assuming the car is probably activating the parkbrake for me when I get out anyway perhaps? I’d welcome input on situations where manually activating the parking brake would make sense cheers
  15. Anyone know how the logic works around this if you have baby seats plugged into isofix? Or heavy bags on a seat?
  16. Aha. The icons couldn’t be any less clear that is the case. Glad I asked!!!! So it’s all about visibility of who in the back hasn’t belted up. any idea which icon is which seat?
  17. Interesting. I must test it again, because I think all the icons were the same before I drove off. I thought it might show one person - ie me. Or a belted up indication - nope. I just had 5 similar icons, none with a belt symbol and me in the car with a belt on. Seemed bizarre, I couldn’t see the point of it.
  18. Hmm. What’s the point of it? Is the idea To try to somehow tell who is or is not wearing a belt before you set off? If so - doesn’t the car whinge and beep when you drive without belts on anyway?
  19. Anyone know what the purpose of the seat icons is when you start the car up? They appear at the bottom of the dashboard info window on my analogue dash. The manual doesn’t mention it, and I can’t work out what value it offers so far…

  21. So roadtest report - in summary these active matrix LED lights are ridiculously good. My wife says she will never drive our other car at night now we have this…! Up to about 25mph, there seems to be additional illumination low to the road. That automatically disengages above that speed. Steering wheel pressure at low speed engages some sort of extra directional lighting. Couldn’t tell if that was happening at higher speeds because… With lights set to the auto-beam setting (tap forward once and the A comes on the dash), above 40(?) mph the illumination is nothing short of incredible. The car proceeds to dip the lights around cars in front of you - on both sides of the road. If you pay attention you can watch it actively turn on and off led in the matrix (hence the name of course!). It creates spookily accurate boxes around things it knows not to blind. I don’t think I got above 40mph the other day which is why it wasn’t working. It seemed to be aware when it is in town where full beams aren’t needed so with streetlights I didn’t think the full beams were running. Tbh I didn’t care. But get out of a town and it’s the brightest light array on a car I’ve ever experienced. One downside is that it of course relies on the camera behind the rear view mirror. Tonight the screen was frozen so I got a warning to clean the camera, but the screen demister didn’t reach that part of the screen in the two impatient minutes I waited. I’m not sure how well it will ever defrost that part of the screen seeing as warm air will never directly make contact with it as the mirror fitting is in the way… First test and only a ten mile round trip, so will see how it goes over time. But wow, what a feature - and standard spec on the Sportline I picked.
  22. Excellent input. I will try again later. No central reservation - twisty’ish B roads in the UK. My wife said last night it didn’t adjust for anyone coming towards her. I will go out again and test it and see what I can come up with.
  23. Still none the wiser as to how this is supposed to work really. Set to auto mode it seems completely unable to detect cars coming towards me - although does detect if someone is ahead of me in my lane (ie travelling same direction). the manual talks about a minimum speed too - but that’s ambiguous as well: The driving speed is higher than 30 km/h or 60 km/h (depending on the vehicle equipment). Does it turn it off under those speeds? Does it stop you turning it on? Is it 30 or 60?! The Skoda online manuals are dire, they’ve edited the content to be so brief as to be no help unless you’re totally clueless and just want the most basic of info. A tactic to drive customer / dealer interaction perhaps…
  24. Sorry to labour on about this point, but what is the best setting for this - should I leave the indicator stalk always forward? Or should I think of it more like cruise control – you turn it on for an extended period of time while you’re driving, but you don’t have it on at slow speed?
  25. So should I leave the stalk pushed forwards at all times? What will it do at under 40mph? I am looking for the ‘idiot’ setting where I don’t need to be constantly turning things on and off 🙂
