  1. Is there a possibility of a factory order for folding door mirrors? I discovered on another thread that, for example, a factory fit towbar is available and this does not appear in the Octy brochure. I know that the folding mirror option is widely available in VW cars from the Golf up for about £120 - so the parts are there in the VAG system. I ask because my garage is a bit tight for space and I have to fold in my mirrors just in case I scrape one! I know it's lazy but having a push botton to fold them would be a boon.
  2. I thought the side mirrors only got powered up when the rear screen element was on? This would make sense in that it is not a good idea to have the mirror heating elements on all the time - you might easily forget and leave the control on the heat setting.
  3. Picked up my wife's new Fabia yesterday and thought I'd give you some initial impressions. It's a Fabia 2, 70 bhp petrol with maxidot, multifunction st wheel in black magic pearl. We ordered it with the black dash and blue wave upholstery because we thought the silver, standard version was not very practical (and not nice to look at!). I also thought the standard instrument panel on the '2' was a bit lacking. I test drove both the Roomster 2 (for a day) and a Fabia 2 and simply did not like the lack of 'proper' fuel and temperature gauges. Fortunately the maxidot option gives you all the dials and the very useful enhanced computer display. The m/fn steering wheel works well too. We went for the 1.2 petrol engine for refinement reasons and cost. I found the 1.4 TDi engine very rough and not worth the £1500 extra. The car cost £10000 otr (£400 discount for no trade-in). There have been some adverse comments on here about the new Fabia but 'in the metal' it has a bit of presence to it. It really is good looking in the black pearl finish. I'll try to post some pics later. We have had a succession of VW Polos, (6 in fact), but found this time that to get a Polo with reasonable spec including trip computer, alarm, mp3 connection and 15 inch alloys we would have to go to the SE spec and it would have cost nearer £1200 after discount. So far..... we like: overall build quality, refinement, maxidot/radio (even has LW reception!), seat adjustment, 15 inch alloys, spacious interior and boot, excellent service from supplying dealer in Dundee and the 3 years Skoda Assistance. Possible negatives: while overall refinement is good the ride is a bit firmer than we are used to and some of the plastics are suspect (e.g. flimsy door release levers). I know it's early days but first impressions are very positive.
  4. Thanks all! I think I'll go for the Xenons and not the Light Assist, (even tho'it's only
  5. After much thought I have decided to replace my Touran (140bhp diesel) with an Octavia 4x4 140bhp diesel. I have decided to include M/F steering wheel inc Maxi dot, silver met paint, curtain airbags, cruise and dealer fit detachable towbar. What about (a) Xenon headlights and ( Light Assistant? I've seen a few negative comments about the Xenons on here but also criticism of the standard halogens! Advice much appreciated. (BTW the nearest VW 4x4 estate is the Passat Sport at
  6. Hi I'm a new poster to this great site - very informative. I thought you might be interested in the reasons for my change to Fabia from Polo. I have bought 6 new polos for my wife over the last 15 years and went to order a new one for September. Our last one was a Twist 1.2, 64 BHP, ordered with multifuction computer and 6 disc CD changer and has been fine (with the glaring exception of the lack of a boot light!). VW, in their wisdom, no longer offer a factory fit for either m/f computer or CD autochanger for the equivalent 'S' model. Would have to have paid over
