Interesting HU/Radio Mystery Problem?
I wish i did but that's just the report from one of the lads on here when i took the car to him for some other things. He said he wasn't a techwizz on all aspects of VCDS so he couldn't help on the radio front. 😞

I can imagine the mechanics will say leave it with us until we figure it out and we'll charge you for how long it takes (£100 hourly rate )

Interesting HU/Radio Mystery Problem?
Nay this was a private sale! Which is cheaper, taking it to an auto electrician or buying another radio and hoping it works?

Interesting HU/Radio Mystery Problem?
Hey guys, Bit of an interesting one. The HU in my car (mk2 20212 fabia estate) has no audio, no matter the source, radio/cd/aux. No crackle from speakers or anything. I got a VCDS scan and i got the vin decoded and here is what i found. The radio model on the VIN (photo below) does not match the one i have in the car (photo below). The RCD510 MP3 looks like some touchscreen thing. and the one i have is a basic model 310?? Upon removing the trim around the radio i noticed that the 4 screws were missing and actually in the glovebox so someone has been there already. Do i assume the original radio has been swapped out? If so could this be the issue to no sound? From this forum here it looks like it could potentially but not sure https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/help-no-sound-from-speakers.7175596/ Also here is part of the VCDS scan that brought up the radio.... 1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
ohhhhhh the old purring v6 mere 😞 the only real option is to get a petrol v6 , i don't have a choice Does this sound comprehensive? (done all filters already) All filters - Oil, air, cabin, fuel (already done) All liquids - Coolant, engine oil (done), brake (&clutch) oil, gearbox oil, power steering Throttle cleaning Spark plugs (need to check service history again for when last done) Both thermostats, should I replace them as a preventive measure or just wait for them to die?

1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
I did not do the coating 😬 I was used to filters that had the thin rubber o ring seal at the bottom of the housing thread. Never occurred to me to put it on this wide one! Thanks for the research! Bunch of amazing helpful lads on here!

1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
I was hoping a stiffer new tensioner would make up for the lack of tension when starting the engine on a morning. Pure speculation i guess

Hi Xman, Thank you so much for the info, that is educating me to say the least! Hand tight, i love it! This is the filter i got, from ECP

1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
It's literally a bolt sticking out the engine block. I don't think you'd need to do anything apart from unscrew it and put the new one in. Literally 90 second job. I could be wrong

What do you think to changing the chain tensioner? Or is that ignition chain noise just part of the charm 😁

1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
Thanks for this suggestion. I'll definitely give it a try. Coming from a diesel I'm used to oil becoming black pretty quickly in the engine 🤣 is that not normal? I'll see what it's like today. I think I will give it a flush too! Thanks for the research!

1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
Thank you for the research Wino I really appreciate it! I wonder if anyone has had any luck just replacing the tensioner initially to see if it helps on startup? Looks a 2 second job and they're about £30.

1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
The knocking (more like ticking noise to be honest ) has subsided. Still there faintly and its coming from the high pressure fuel pump from the sounds of it. But maybe once a week or twice a week I will hear the chain for 1-2 seconds on startup! I'm thinking at 85k on the clock, maybe the chain tensioner could do with replacing as a potential cheap fix! The spring in there may is wearing out. It's just the potential chain issue that is playing on my mind. I don't know if it's just a poor design feature on startup that lacks tension on the chain or if it really is stretched. Scotty kilmer mentioned he used some carbon cleaning oil additive on an engine with a noisy chain and the noise went away. Apparently crud can build up on the chain tensioner and it doesn't operate as smoothly/quickly or build hydraulic pressure as quickly as it should. But I can't find the American stuff he recommended here in the UK 🤷♂️ Oil wise, at least I know now it's 3.6/3.9 and to be honest this isn't an F1 engine, if the oil in the middle of the Min-Max on the dipstick, it will be fine 😁

1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
Thanks John! I did check for the left behind seal, and I got a cup wrench for the oil filter so I could tighten it with a torque wrench to spec. If I have still messed it up then I deserve the damage haha 😅

1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
Thanks Wino! Is this date good or bad as far as the dodgy timing chain production is concerned? Were they meant to have fixed this issue by Jan 2012 or nay? Just seeing if i have legitimate cause to worry or not?
