  1. Sorry just seen this! Where do i find the engine serial number on the mk2 fabia please? The sticker under the boot floor has perished!
  2. Now here is a head banger @nta16 look at the image below. I put my vin into a vin decoder site and i noticed this... the oil capacity goes up based on when exactly in 2011 the car was made? haha. Interesting that June 2011 is when VAG started rolling out the upgraded timing chain kits i believe? @roottoot @xman I thought you may find this interesting ?? My car is 2012 but 61 Reg, so not sure when engine was built exactly ☹️ How do i find out for certain??
  3. Hi Pete, Which dealer did you get that quote from please? Its not too bad considering some quotes I've had haha. Im in leeds so not too far from you
  4. Hi Xman! Thanks for this. I had seen some of your others posts on the oil filter so I did double check that yes! Im shopping around for the chain job at the moment. Any competitive garages north of London? Or west Yorkshire?
  5. I may be paranoid. Today I was idling in traffic and I couldn't here the engine, it was back to its silent self. Who knows ey. The only other variable is that I've used a 5w30 oil. I know you can use both 5w40 as well. But I don't know what was used previously. Could a change in oil weight make a difference to noise?
  6. Good points! The filter on these has a nifty spring loaded design where it doesn't let any oil drip out when you unscrew it. It just keeps the oil in there. Makes for a more thorough oils change in my opinion. I think a tank of Vpower and an Italian tune up might be on the cards
  7. But why isn't it as smooth as a 6L V10 😁😁😁 haha. Thanks mate!
  8. @nta16 here's a shocker, I just measured the old engine oil that was drained from the service...2.6L 😳😳😳 a litre under. And I know why.... If you put the reg into euro car parts, it says "your engine needs 2.8L of oil. I bet the last garage just went off that. I wonder if that was contributing to the noises. Either way, I still think this Tesco E10 fuel has something to do with it. When idling cold on a morning, feels a bit......lumpy. I feel these tiny tremors every so often in the morning.
  9. Oh aye in the grand scheme its nothing lol! Just that the skoda dealers 20mins away have quoted £390 all in. I'd be paying the same essentially, plus the 5 hours of travelling. It's a shame because i probably trust you more than the dealers haha!
  10. Thank you for that! I'm in north london 😞 5 hour round trip and £40 in fuel for me 😞 Thanks anyway!!
  11. Great! Whereabouts in Worcs are you please?
  12. Hi @Tech1e are you still offering this service please? Mk2 Fabia 2012. Thank you
  13. haha ohhhh to be back in a resilient merc. One day ey! for the 44kw engine its 2.8L.
  14. Yes, and that's saying the same thing (no surprise as it's the same engine) I.e. 3.6l
  15. I always thought you just had to leave it long enough so that most of it had drained to the pan, didn't know it had to be cold, how did I miss that bit 😅
  16. Ah learned something new there! Thank you for that! and yes 77KW
  17. I made sure the engine was up to temp before letting it sit for 5mins and then draining it. The book certainly seems to say so down here....
  18. Ah! Thank you so much, I best do that 😬😬
  19. This It where it gets interesting... The book says this engine takes 3.5L. I put in 3L të begin with (obviously there's still a bit of oil in the engine etc). Took it to e petrol station forecourt so I knew it was on a flat surface. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Checked dipstick....oil is only at the minimum level? How does that work?
  20. Thanks for the reply! The thing is I specifically checked for this before buying the car. The car had been sat for approx 4 days before I started it. And it started without a single knock or clang or tap. Smooth as butter. I just can't see how it has gone down hill so quickly. Normally don't you hear it briefly on start up? And then it gets longer and longer? It may have been low on oil, but there was no oil light on the dash 🤷‍♂️. I love cars. I hate buying them 😁
  21. I really like your philosophy! I came from a v6 3.0 diesels merc engine. 2009, 170k on th clock and worked like a dream. That really was bulletproof if serviced properly. ULEZ has forced me to get a tiny petrol (or a new diesel - pointless as the writing is on the wall for diesels). The build quality doesn't seem to be there on this 1.2 tsi 😅 I don't want refinement, just blumin reliability. Is it only old Toyota yaris and Micras that can do moon Miles nowadays?? 🤣
  22. Thank you! I did have it scanned yesterday with a VCDS and nothing came up to do with the engine. It's in the garage for some dsg work. I'll ask them what they think of it.
  23. Thanks for the reply! I changed the oil and filter myself. I've always serviced and repaired my own cars. But this is my first petrol. It's thrown me because the night before it would idle virtually silent. The next morning it was like that, no matter how many times I turned it off and restarted it. Weird. It's a lot quieter now that I have changed the oil. I just thought the chain stretch was gradual? This has gone from nothing, to constant tapping overnight. Is it really the chain tensioner? Does it just snap?
  24. It was serviced at the dealers for most of its life but I don't know about that. I could check. And yes it is dependent on the rpm of the engine. I spoke to another vag owner who looked at it and said it's perfectly normal 😅 I might just be paranoid. I've just started putting this E10 stuff in, so it could be that making it sound different?
  25. Maybe this video helps IMG_2893.MOV
