  2. Hi all. I'm trying to remove the infortainment unit in the glovebox of my iV, to get to the cables behind. This is the MIB3 unit, without SD cards etc. When I insert the keys I can pull the unit almost all the way out, but something is clearly holding it back and I'm reluctant to apply to much force in case I break or dislodge something. Is there a trick to this, or am I going to have to remove the whole glovebox first? Thanks Steve
  3. True, one reason I haven't changed yet is that I can't find a decent replacement. I'm now leaning towards an older car with a decent reputation, one that dates from before all the touchscreeen and driver aids crap was trendy. I can spend the difference paying a specialist to fully service it and replace anything that's wearing out.
  4. Mine definitely uses the MP3 album, artist and track tags to sort into a sensible order. I don't have any untagged MP3s so I don't know what happens without them. General organisation of tracks is poor, though. If you select by "Genre" it then only lists the tracks by Artist name, there's no way to sort by Album, which is a pain for things like audiobooks. I'd like to be able to select "Book" or "Drama" and then pick a specific Album, but the only way to do that is to seach by folder and filename, which takes far too much attention to be done while driving 😒 Forgetting where it was in a playlist or album seems to be standard behaviour. I've had long conversations with Skoda and they insist this is the way it's designed & won't accept that it's a fixable fault, despite lots of internet threads for all VW group cars complaining about this behaviour. It makes playlists pretty useless. When the system is first started after a long pause I briefly see a message like "device not found", I assume that the system is too slow to mount the storage, so that when the media player looks for the playlist again it can't find it, and resets. Then the storage eventually appears and it starts playing from whatever it thinks is the first track. Should be an easy fix (longer timeout?), but VW don't seem to care. I've also noted than if I create .m3u playlists on the USB stick the system scans and stores them under "Playlists", but after some time (randomly weeks to months) it then forgets them. They still show up in the filesystem but are greyed-out and not selectable. The only fix is to take the memory stick to a PC and copy all the m3u files to a different folder, before deleting the originals (renaming the folder isn't enough). They'll then re-appear for a while, until the system forgets them again later. My guess is that they are scanned when the USB stick is first inserted, but something causes that cache of data to be corrupted. My next car will NOT be from VW group 😠
  5. Yep, so did my old Mondeo and Audi... VW got a lot of criticism for the new infotainment software, it does seem to have been designed by someone who uses a phone but has never driven a car 😁
  6. MIB3 playlist handling is useless. I have a similar problem when playing from USB stick, the system forgets where it was, or even that it was playing a playlist, and defaults to the first item on the stick. During startup I can see a message about "device unavailable", which suggests to me that part of the system which mounts the storage is slow, and the audio software doesn't wait for it to complete. I have tried may different sizes and brands of USB storage to no effect. After much to-and-from from Skoda customer service over many months I finally got contacted by their executive office with the response "sorry, working as designed". You're probably best to ignore as much of the onboard system as possible, just use a competently-designed player on the phone and stream the audio to the car.
  7. Mine's a November 2021 car, but I have the same infotainment system and that system info is exactly what I saw on it, except that the navigation database was 24.7 and is now 25.8. I don't see any reason why the update wouldn't work for you. The update seems flexible, out of 13 modules listed during the process it showed some that were N/A, so presumably only used if the car had certain features.
  8. Following up to my own post, a few hours after updating to 0332 I was offered another OTA update. The description suggested that it was fairly minor, but after letting it run for several hours I started the car and found that the maps were now on 25.8. All is now well, why a supposed main dealer couldn't have done that I have no idea...
  9. Thanks, all, for the help & software. The update from 0302 to 0308 went smoothly, and almost immediately afterwards I got an offer of an OTA update. My guess is that the requirement to first go to 0308 when updating from pre-308 to post-308 was perhaps blocking any recent updates. The OTA update didn't change the version number, but after a week I then manually updated to 0332, which also went smoothly. Now that I'm on 0332 I will see what other OTA updates might come along. Next, update the maps from 24.7 to 25.8... Cheers, Steve

  11. I have a 2021 Superb iV, with the MIB3 infotainment. For the first 3 years it seemed to be downloading updates almost every month, but for the past year there has been nothing. Current SW is 0302, nav database 24.7, which both seem out of date to me. I still pay for the connectivity package, the Skoda connect app works and lets me see the car, activate the heating etc., so it seems to be online. I contacted Skoda customer services, who were as unhelpful as always. They confirmed that the maps should be 25.8, but their only suggestion is a full factory reset, then re-enroll the car with my Skoda ID. Given the general palaver of that setup process, plus the need to note and reset every customization, I'm reluctant to try anything so drastic as a first step. The local dealer claims they can't do anything, because all updates are over-the-air (past experience suggests that they are clueless about MIB3, but other dealers in the area have even worse reputations). Does anyone have any other thoughts or ideas? Is it coincidence that the updates seemed to have stopped when the factory warranty ended?
  12. I've given up on trusting the MIB3 routes, it seems to offer 3 options, slow, slower and slowest, with no indication of why it chooses them. Even the fastest one it gives is consistently slower and longer than one from Google maps. If I ignore the built-in route and go the way I know is faster, it will eventually (after multiple "make a U-turn now" instructions) give up and offer the same final section that I had from Google at the start, at which point the arrival time invariably changes to a sooner arrival. It also claims to have some sort of "learning" mode, but I've never been able to work out what that does. As an example, when I leave home I have two options to get to the main road. One takes the first left and brings me to the very busy main road where I'd have to turn right across 2 lanes of traffic, the other takes the 2nd left and brings me to the main road at a roundabout, easy to make the turn. No matter how often I've taken the road to the roundabout over the past few years, the SatNav always tries to send me down the 1st left to the awkward turn. I've just put it down to another 'feature' of the MIB3 crap design.

The UK's emergency services (police/fire/ambulance etc.) currently use a system based on Airwave, but the "new" Emergency Services Network that was planned to replace it in 2017 has been designed to run over 4G. ESN now looks unlikely to come into service before 2029, but is still 4G-based, so shutting 4G down before the 2040s would seem to be a little tricky. Of course, expecting joined-up thinking from the Westminster numpties is perhaps overly optimistic 🙄

  15. Mine does something similar, a few weeks ago it was telling be that I was in Cheltenham, Vereinigtes Königreich (means UK in German). Just poor translation database, I'd assume.
  16. I used that button once, a couple of years ago, when my (new) UK car broke down while on holiday in Ireland. Since I wasn't in the UK it connected to some international help service, and the first thing I heard was the typical "press 1 for xxx, press 2 for yyy, etc". Since there was absolutely no keypad where I could press anything it was completely useless. I tried waiting, speaking numbers out loud, but nothing worked. In the end I googled the service number & called it on my phone, where I couild press number buttons. I reported it to Skoda, but never heard anything, looks like it's as badly designed & tested as the rest of MIB3.
  17. Are you sure? I thought that under EU rules the brake lights have to be activated once a certain level of deceleration is reached, whether that's direct application of the pedal or through regenerative braking? I did find this quote in a newspaper article: "Type approval of brake light function is governed by section 5.22.2 of UNECE Regulation 13-H, and paragraph 2 of this section states that any deceleration of 1.3 metres per second squared, or greater, must light up the stop lamps" but I haven't tried it. It should be possible to see at night, if the brake lights are reflected in road signs behind you on a dark road.
  18. In my Superb iV I prefer the B mode, it gets closer to the one-pedal driving model where I hardly ever have to touch the brake except at the final stages of slowing/stopping. The only downside is that when I drive my wife's petrol Mini I lift off the accelerator, and am still slightly surprised that it doesn't slow down much 😄 I think it just comes down to personal preference.
  19. Do you by any chance have a 12v to USB power converter added anywhere, perhaps to feed a dashcam? I've heard many stories about cheap Chinese-made converters producing interference that wipes out DAB/DAB+ signals. You may like to unplug anything ike that & recheck.
  20. There's a slightly shorter way via the steering wheel controls. On the right-hand side use the "<" key just below the roller knob to select the central menu in the display, and use the roller to move to Driving Data (some name like that). Click the roller & somewhere in there will be a "reset to zero" option that just requires you to press & hold the roller button. Sorry to be vague, I'm not in front of the car right now & it will depend a bit on what way you have the virtual cockpit set. It's still a faff, not as easy as a simple push button, but slightly easier than ploughing through menus on the main screen once you get the hang of it. The curse of the touchscreen strikes again!
  21. The battery is indeed in the boot, but there's a post inside the front under-bonnet fuse box for the +ve, and a bracket just to the rear of the fuse box for the ground.
  22. In my experience with the iV the 12v battery isn't charged from the main battery unless the ignition is on. I was away for a month and had foolishly left a rechargeable torch plugged into the 12v socket in the boot. When I returned the 12v battery was totally flat, even though the HV traction battery was full, and the car was completely unresponsive. I had to manually open the door and bonnet & borrow a 12v charger from a friend to hook up to the 12v battery. After that I could "start" the car, and it began to recharge the 12v battery. Right PITA that was, I now have the 12v rear socket on an ignition-only supply.
  23. Might someone else have been parked in the drive, maybe a delivery? I found a piece of suspension spring on my drive a few months ago, clearly the snapped tail of a coil. I didn't see anything damaged on our cars, but remembered the window cleaner being parked there the day before. When I called him, he said "Hmm, that might explain the loud bang a couple of days ago!" 😄 Sure enough, his garage confirmed it was from his van...
  24. Interesting, I suppose it depends on how you interpret "Recovery" versus "Repatriation". Section 5 does indeed say "ŠKODA Roadside Assistance may in Our absolute discretion either: a) Vehicle repatriation to the United Kingdom Arrange and cover the cost of taking the Vehicle by a road transporter from abroad to Your Home or chosen United Kingdom repairer for repair in the United Kingdom. When repatriation is authorised it normally takes 10-14 working days for delivery to a United Kingdom address", yet section 2 says "(b) Recovery Recovery has the same features and limitations as Roadside but with the following variations: Recovery operates only in the United Kingdom.". I think the main thing is to read the small print and make sure it works for you. In my case separate personal cover for my wife & I in any car was a better option, but as always your own personal circumstances will vary.
  25. Fair enough, perhaps I misunderstood or wasn't clear. Outside the UK it seems that they will have someone attend to the vehicle, and either repair it on the spot or tow it to a local garage, but that's all. They will not bring it back home from abroad, which is what I wanted.
