  1. -6C this morning. No snow in the southwest of Sweden yet (but 3-4 ft. in the northeast). Studded winter tyres and fluffy steering wheel cover mounted today, so I'm prepared for the worst.
  2. Symbols change their meaning over time and are interpreted differently by different groups - and, sadly, often in a way that has nothing to do with the original intentions. Having said that, I suggest that we all in proper spirit can appreciate that the Briskoda forum sports the poppy today
  3. Where's skomaz with the next pic? He posted in the EU referendum thread (without wearing his tin foil hat) on the evening of Nov 3rd and haven't been heard of since...
  4. While the Tudor rose clearly has its place in the English FA logo I'm not sure if it has to be 10 of them. Replace (temporarily?) one of them with a poppy - problem sorted.
  5. While Putin's Russia can rightly be blamed for a lot of things, I don't think they're behind this one. Not sure about details of FIFA regulations, but maybe friendlies (if that was what Ireland's game was) are wieved differently from tournaments (including qualifications)? Or maybe the Irish FA was fined and paid without fuzz?
  6. Yup, rules against messages with a possible political content are understandable. It's a tricky business, this. For me it makes reason to, on the one hand, question servicemen's participation in certain actions (Kenya? Northern Ireland? Iraq?) while at the same time respect the individuals fallen during these actions - and the burdens carried by their surviving families. And the Legion's undoubtedly doing a lot of good things supporting veterans. Therefore, wearing the poppy is understandable (although the white one is an interesting alternative). As long as the poppy is about paying respect to sacrifices made, no problems. If it also signifies acceptance or support for the political decisions behind the sacrifices it's another matter. What really makes me sick is when politicians and other public figures follow advice from spin doctors and PR agents, wearing the poppy at the most incongruous situations. E.g. Ed Miliband and Justine Thornton at the maternity ward with theiir newborn son a few years ago (bet Ed was criticised for not fastening a poppy on his son, too). Or David Cameron sporting a poppy visiting China, apparently ignorant of the fact that the poppy has other connotations there...
  7. There's always the option of blowing up the Houses of Parliament with gunpowder. November 5th might provide a fitting opportunity? This time it might work...
  8. ...provided you've remembered regular service:
  9. In my memory Lucas' positive earth electric system added 'personality' to UK cars back in the 60's
  10. Mais oui: the pride of Québec, the Manic GT (1969): Only 160 were ever built, so no surprise that it took some time.
  11. Ah, a favourite of mine. Does time exist after the big bang then? And if so, in what sense of 'exist'? OK, organic stuff decays and I guess that this could be said implying (in some way) that something we could call time really exists outside our consciouness. But what about elementary particles? Do they decay? Or is 'time' just a label we put on a certain kind of human experience? And (in order not to aggravate the OP) is time a necessary condition for a meaningful life?
  12. Nooo... maybe a view from behind will be decisive:
  13. You're all heading in the right direction when it comes to type of car, so this might not be helpful at all, but here's a larger snippet:
  14. Good guesses so far, all of them, but wrong side of the Atlantic.
  15. In my morning paper today I read about the UK Invalid Tricycle Association's rally in Sweden, August 1956. 32 participants - veterans from WW1 and WW2, polio victims and others - came by boat to Gothenburg and made the 300 miles journey to Stockholm - awe-inspiring, considering a top speed of 25 mph. Two lousy pics:

  19. Thank you, gentlemen Photobucket's still sucking, so I had to create a gallery here on the forum, hopefully it works: YES it works!
  20. You.re right, I've now learnt that the "Trasformabile" version was distinctive for the strakes or gills or whatever - the convertible and other Bianchinas didn't have them And let's wait for skomaz (and for photobucket , that seems to have broken down completely at the mo)
