Just got back from the USA, where my mate Jorge had bought me a "kill tally"... 😆

Sounds like you had a much more substantial impact😬, I was doing 40mph, and had managed to brake some speed off before impact. The "Buffer", as it is called, was £20.51 including VAT...

Soon, the old girl as looking as good as new... 😎 *footnote from first post - the chrome strip is made from purest unobtainium, fashioned by blind nuns in the Carpathian Mountains. Hence, the retail price of £104...🤦♂️

Bloody deer...
The bumper - predictably - had several cracks in it (it's the collapsable area of the car, after all). Dave is a motorcycle racer, and has repaired more pieces of broken Tupperware than I have had hot dinners, so he made quick work of the cracks with a combination of locking wire, superglue and cable ties... 😃

But that was mostly the expanded polystyrene pad - once the new one was on, it looked a lot better...

Bloody deer...
So, last weekend, I had the misfortune of meeting a Muntjac deer whilst on my way home from King's Lynn... Damage was (on first inspection) fairly light, and - importantly - didn't seem to need a replacement bumper. So I drove down to Wings Škoda in King's Lynn early this week and had a chat with Andy, the very helpful parts chap. I ordered three new parts - the lower grill, the chrome strip for the lower grill*, and the expanded polystyrene bolster that sits between the front crash bar and the front bumper. Total cost £180ish... My mate Dave and I started work this morning... With the front bumper removed, the damage looked awful...

Centre Arm Rest Height Adjustment
I thought I'd resurrect this thread, rather than open a new one... The front centre armrest on my (2014) Superb Estate seems to work when it wants to. It seems to work on the same principle as my old A6 - If you lift it, so it is parallel to the seat back, then lower it again, it will go to its lowest setting. If you want it higher, you gently move it up, feeling the detents, or ratchet stops, until it is at the height you require (for me - always at the top). Except it doesn't work like that. I can feel the detents as described above, but they won't allow the armrest to hold any weight (just the weight of my elbow, I mean) - the armrest always folds down to the lowest setting. Once in a blue moon it will work - I can't work out what I've done to reach this nirvana - but as soon as I need to get something out of the tray beneath, then it's back to failure again. Is there some method of adjustment? It feels like the 'ratchet' needs adjusting or replacing - any ideas please? By the way, had the old girl given her deep clean and ceramic coat today... ...and for one day per year, the load area is dog-hair free...😆

Water in passenger footwell
Thanks Snapper. Pretty sure the source of the water is the grill above the blower intake, as the bottom of the gasket was wet. Still mystified by the amount of water required to cause the problem and the apparently functioning drain…🤔

Water in passenger footwell
So, I have - eventually (five months after the initial post 😆) - done some investigation of this problem. To recap - I often get just about a tablespoon of clean (ie not washer fluid or coolant) water sitting on the passenger front floor mat after it has been raining. Occasionally (as in the pic in the original post) it can be more, but it has been very little lately. I started by removing the pollen filter and blower - both surprisingly easy to do. The blower had obviously had water going through it at some stage and showed rust on some fasteners, so I gave it a good spray with some water dispersant and sprayed the electrical parts with contact cleaner. Finding nothing obvious underneath the dash, I opened the bonnet and removed the scuttle cover from the passenger side... Well, this has clearly had a lot of water in it. What I assume is the alarm module and horn has quite a distinct tidemark... Look at the corrosion on the case of the ECU 😱 Underneath the alarm module is the grill leading straight down into the blower... So - the drain on this side must be blocked, allowing water to back up and enter the cabin through the grill - right? Except that we poured litres and litres of water into the space and watched it immediately drain out through the hole and exit via the wheel arch. Not a drop came into the car...🤔 After scratching my head for a while, I cleaned everything up and reassembled it - except for the scuttle cover. If I come out to the car and there's water on the mat, I'll immediately pop the bonnet and see what that area looks like. It would have to be quite a volume of water (a couple of litres or so) to fill the space sufficiently to come through the bottom seal of the grill (which is definitely the route it is taking - the bottom seal was wet and the top and sides bone dry). I'll report back if I find a cause...

Window weirdness
Thanks for the replies. I have just tried holding the unlock button for longer than normal, and it opened all the windows, stopping when I released it. I think that's probably what happened... Mike 👍

Window weirdness
I locked the car up the other day, keeping the remote button pressed until the mirrors folded in. On returning to the vehicle, all four windows were open about 2.5cm/1 inch. Have I inadvertently found a 'dog-friendly' setting or something? It hasn't happened before and hasn't repeated since... Mike 🤔

Water in passenger footwell
I have had repeated leaks into the passenger footwell of my 2014 Superb II Estate. It is not fitted with a sunroof. I have looked at the under-bonnet scuttle area above where the water appears (it seems to come down across the wheel arch carpet). No dampness, leaves etc - all seems well. I'm guessing I'll have to remove the glovebox to investigate further - can anyone give me any guidance please? I have found a YouTube covering the removal of an Octavia glovebox, but not one for the Superb. Any help appreciated. Mike 😎

Engine coolant suddenly taking long time to reach 90 degrees
Whereas it's not critical, you'll be using a lot more fuel whilst it's running like this. If access to the thermostat is easy, I'd fix it ASAP...

Engine coolant suddenly taking long time to reach 90 degrees
The most logical answer to this is that the foreign object is stuck in the thermostat, stopping it from closing. In that case, your engine will be trying to get up to working temperature whilst the whole cooling system is trying to cool it down...

Urgent Brake master cylinder issues
For readers under 60, the 2000 in this post is referring to the cubic capacity of the car, not its year of manufacture...😆 ETA - I'd forgotten how low down the filler flap was...

SUPERB MK2 1.6 ESTATE REVERSE AUDIBLE ALERT
Do you mean an alert audible from outside the car, or the beeps from the reversing sensors when you are nearing an obstruction? If the former, I don't have it on mine, so it must be able to be switched off... 🤔

Is it possible to set some new 'defaults'?
Hi there, 2014 Škoda Superb VIN TMBME73T4F9023013 2.0TDi 140 4x4 estate. Overall, I have been pleased with my first year of ownership. However, there are a few minor niggles that I'd appreciate some advice on: 1. I have a Columbus multi-function system fitted, which strikes me as slow to operate, but is pretty good otherwise. Is it possible to set a default scale on the map whenever it is turned on? Living in rural Norfolk, I want minor road detail on all the time - which only comes on at 400yds and below, so I'd like the default scale set to 400yds. 2. I am unsure what version the maps or software in the GPS are, or how they are updated. 3. Although when selecting reverse I get a screen saying it has 'optical sensors', which work fine, it strikes me that a reversing camera would be a good addition, displaying on the Columbus screen - is this possible? 4. Can I get the folding mirrors to fold immediately I lock the vehicle (like every other vehicle I've owned with folding mirrors🙄)? At present, I have to keep the lock button on the remote pressed for five seconds or so before this happens. 5. Whilst we are on the subject of mirrors, can I change settings so that the heating elements come on with the heated rear window (again, like every car I've ever owned🤦♂️)? I honestly thought they weren't heated, until I stumbled across a post here about it - whose bright idea was that? As I said, all minor stuff, but fixing them would make the car more enjoyable to use. Any advice appreciated... Thanks, Mike 😎

Can Skoda add?
I've always changed the oil and filter on any new motorcycle I have bought at 1000 miles. These days, machining tolerances are much better, but there used to be very good reasons for running an engine in—and you wouldn't want the slurry of metal particles and oil providing your lubrication for any longer than necessary… Mike 😎
