  1. Just after getting my my Fabia 1.9 estate I got cought by a speed camera and was given a choice of getting 3 points on my licence or going on a speed awareness course. 4 things I remember from the course 1. at 30 mph you are travelling at 45 feet per second speedometers are calibrated at 28mph when reading 30 mph to keep you on the right side of the law and if you hit someone at 40mph the chances are that you will kill them where at 30 they have a chance of survival. Speed cameras and mobile units are only put where there have been at least three accidents apparently they are not put where they will catch the most motorists though you sometimes think it is )
  2. When I had my car into the Scoda dealers for for a small repair got chatting to customer in reception aria he had been having similar problems and the garage had traced it to a faulty alarm box by that I mean the bit that makes all the noise when the alarm goes off. I think he told the guy it was somewhere under one of the front wings
  3. Have had problems with the rear nearside door leaking fixed under warranty well I think its fixed the carpet fells a bit damp when compared to the carpet on the other side.
  4. I have had my Fabia 1.9tdi Estate (55 plate)for 6 months now and since I do a lot of short journeys I thought about an oil change till I rang the Skoda garage and was quoted £95 for an oil and filter change :( According to the service hand book the oil has been changed every 10K miles and was changed at 30095 by the dealer when I bought the car (they have serviced the car from new) the next service is 40K I have read a lot of the threads about the correct type of oil to use but did not realise there were 2 different types of service interval. Is the oil for a variable service interval different to a time/distance service which mine is set up for. Since I do a lot of short trips it would probably pay to keep to the time/distance service intervals
  5. Found this link to a picture of the fuse panel and a list of what each fuse covers hope it helps to isolate the problem Fabia-vrs.com - Fuse Panel Layout
  6. Hi Spuddy this link may help you its a picture of the fuse panel and what each fuse covers for the Fabia Fabia-vrs.com - Fuse Panel Layout Hope it helps
  7. I have had a Fabia TDI Elegance estate with cruse control which since I do a lot of town driving and have to pass a lot of cameras I find putting it in 3rd gear and switching on the cruse control keeps me out of trouble ) The cruse control on a longer run is great and is much more relaxing and the last long run I got about 60 to the gallon at about 65 to 69 mph. Have just filled up and got 41.5 to the gallon on town running
  8. I have a 1.9 Diesel Furby Elegance Estate and on average get 10 miles to the Lt that's about 45 to the gallon mainly town driving but you have to drive fairly carefully to get that. My last car was a Daewoo Matiz 800cc which I got 10 miles to the Lt on similar town running but now I have got used to the estate I would not want to go back to a small car especially on long runs with the joys of the cruse controll
  9. I have a Fabia 1.9 Diesel estate on a 55 plate. Found a wet patch on the floor of the near side rear foot well and as the car is under warranty (and having read that it is a problem) took it to the dealers and they have resealed all the doors. I was interested to read on the paperwork I got back the following. They had done a water test and found water leaking past door cassette and resealed the door and all other doors as per bulletin. so it looks as if it goes in for one door they reseal all of them so if its in a service bulletin its obviously a known problem bur I gather from some of the posts Skoda won't admit its a problem. Now all I need is a good downpour of rain to find out if the seals work, should not have to wait to long
  10. I have only had my Fabia estate for about a month after reading the posts I am frightened to ask how much 1L of engine oil costs. What happened to good old Duckhams 20/50 )
  11. Found this conversion website for various metric measurements used it to convert bar tyre pressures printed on the back of the fuel cover to psi >:: World Wide Metric ::< I think the volum coversion e.g. Lts to galls is based on US Gallon which is smaller than UK Gallon which is approx 4.5LT to gallon.
  12. Found this website for converting tyre pressures in Bar to PSi >:: World Wide Metric ::< My Fabia estate works out as near enough 32 psi back and front
  13. Have carefully checked again and its running at 900rpm just new to the car but I am getting there.
  14. Its just coming up to 2 yrs old in September. Its new to me and it was given a 30000 service before I got it but looking at the service book it would appear to be an oil and filter change 40000 seems to be the big service. I am very happy with it.
  15. This is the first diesel car I have ever owned and I noticed when idling the tick over is about 1000 rpm wonder if this sounded a bit fast or do diesels needa fairly fast tick over anyway compared to petrol It has taken a few days to get used to the car and most of my running at the moment is in town. Tonight on the way home from work I averaged 49.1 mpg but its only a 5 mile run home with no motorway stretches. I ask the question because there is some doubt about keeping the original air filter in for 40000 miles the car had done 30950 when I got it on Monday and a choked filter would push up the revs.
  16. Thanks for the replies one of the boys at work told me what it was my last car had a plastic tube and spray fitted to the windscreen wiper arm. I remember reading how the feed pie can become disconnected now I understand the problems that would cause.
  17. I have recently got the Fabia estate and I noticed that on the high stop light strip there is (on the left hand side) a little button like pin that sticks out any idea of what its for . Reluctant to press it in case something went wrong.
  18. I have just got my Fabia and noticed there is no 30 thought about putting a dab of white correcting fluid on the glass to highlight 30mph. As I have a GPS that I use for walking I will check the accuracy for 30 and 60. I thought the police allowed for a 10% error though that might just be wishful thinking on my part.
  19. It was motor cycle related. I had broken down and got a tow home it was OK on the straight but going round corners was hairy as the bike swung out in a wide ark definitely a don't try this at home
  20. I am getting my car on Monday putting some of my own cash and a loan with which I will pay for the car by Debit card The dealer told me large amounts of cash are a problem because of money laundering rules
  21. I collect my (new to me) Fabia 1.9 TDi Elegance on a 55 plate with the cruse controll fitted It will be a big jump from my Daewoo Matiz 800cc to the Fabia as I knw very little mechanically about cars I got the RAC to check the car out the report came back as a big Acording to the garage when I went to see them about some minor faults he had found the engineer had spent about 2 hours checking over the car and when he telephoned me he told me he had given it a 10 mile road test. He ran a VW Golf himself and was used to the TDI engines. So roll on 2.00pm Monday I will let you know how I get on.
  22. I am having the same nerves about picking up my Fabia estate 1.9 TDI Elegance on Monday as I know nothing about cars I got the RAC Engineer to check it over he has given it the thumbs up the only faults he found werea nail in one of the tyres and some scuff marks on one of the alloy wheels and a few minor scratches on the bodywork which hopefully the garage will sort out. I have a slight persuader I have not paid for it yet. The other thing is the tyres 3 of them are at 4mm and the other 2 are 5mm In the past I have changed tyres at 4mm what do other members think is a safe thickness apparently the legal limit is something like 1.9mm which sounds rather thin.
  23. I am due to take delivery of a Skoda Fabia Estate 1.9TDi Elegance on a 55 plate at the moment it has 30000 miles on the clock so as I do about 10/12K a year I will start saving for the 40K service. This is a big jump for me from a little Daewoo Matiz 800cc 2001 which I have had from new. I did my head in looking through all the car mags etc to decide what to buy I looked at a Toyota Yaris but did not like the central digital display. The Vauxhall Corsa but felt the seats, for me, were very hard and a new Fiat Panda but I would have had to pay extra for several extras that I wanted + the heavy depreciation in the first 2 years and I kept coming back to the comfort of the Fabia. I was looking for the 1.4 TDi Hatch Comfort but when I found this one with the top speck I decided to go for it only time will tell if I made the right choice I have bought it from a main dealer who has serviced it from new and since I will keep it (Hopefully) till it is probably 5 yrs old I thought about taking out a Skoda extended warranty it still has one year of the original warranty to go but this appears to be Dealer based don't quite understand why Skoda only give a 2 year manufacturers warranty. Thanks for listening to a newby prattling on about his new car
