  1. Sorry to tell you but I actually sold my mk3 Octavia after a month. My anxiety couldn’t handle what lay ahead with the complicated DSG7. Picked up a 2015 Mazda 6 estate. Slush box 6 speed auto with non turbo 2.0 petrol. Hopefully the simplicity treats me well.
  2. @toot Update: Had it towed to the mechanic Monday morning. Apparently one of the coils wasn’t connected properly. Mech said he swapped coils 1&2 over to see if it was damaged but everything worked so no faulty parts. reconnected everything properly and car is back to normal, no more engine light and no misfire. 🤦‍♂️
  3. Good to know thank you! 👍 I am hesitant to drive it again to be honest, don’t want to to do any more damage. I’ll report back in a few days once I’ve got a verdict and costs for anyone else who gets this.
  4. @toot Yep AA cover. can get someone out on tomorrow (Sunday) to scan it first I suppose, but won’t be able to tow if necessary until the Monday anyway as the garage is closed.
  5. very fair point! as they say assumptions are the mother of all f**k ups. will call the garage on Monday to get it back in and looked at again. I have breakdown cover, is it worth getting a tow back there?
  6. no details on the exact plugs used. They are the local European car specialists so I just assumed they would be using the correct ones. I was charged $49.00 (£25.00) per plug if thats gives any indication of the material.
  7. Could it be this? https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/had-my-spark-plugs-changed-and-now-car-shakes-epc-light-cel-flashing.5970429/
  8. So here we are. After purchasing a second hand Octavia mk3 with a DSG7 and finding out about all the trouble these gearbox went through after I purchased it. I think I’m in for a big invoice. Wife was using the car today on the way home from our friends place as I’d had a few beers. To get out she had to reverse up a pretty long steep driveway, knowing how fragile the box and clutch is I was twitching. seemed okay, until 2km’s down the road she went to pull out of a junction and CLUNK. Something went, not sure what but the engine light and EPC light came on. Violent shudder like the car was stalling and it felt like car had forgotten how to change gears. What is worth noting is that I had it in 2 days ago to get 4 new spark plugs. (The mechanic stated they had trouble removing the plugs as the coils were stuck) Before the spark plug change the car Was driving flawlessly with no signs of gearbox/clutch issues! Is this my Mechatronics, clutch or something else? Another note is that the car was taken to Skoda NZ regarding the recall for the accumulator part. During the recall the gearbox had its oil changes this was 2 years ago.
  9. The dreaded lamp warning came back within a week, both bulbs are definitely fine and working. next step get in and give it a proper clean with contact cleaner.
  10. Swapped the bulbs over and everything works no more warning lights. I am baffled though because both bulbs are in working order.
  11. @toot No problem with you sharing. To your point, I think here in NZ European cars have a bit of stigma around reliability and cost of servicing/repairs as we are so far away it’s always been that Euro cars cost a lot more than Asian. Japanese cars dominate over here, maybe now that NZ police fleet has moved to Skoda they are playing nice to keep up a good rep?
  12. This is exactly how mine feels. Also curious about what’s in the “kit”
  13. *EDIT* The invoice doesn't mention any type of software updates (i.e 34H5) , @toot do you think they would have carried out any updated necessary as best practice when they did this work? (even if it's not been listed)
  14. Called the Skoda dealer that the car was purchased from. They were more than happy to help confirming the work was done and even providing me with the invoice (they did hide the costs though) See what was done, I hope this helps someone else at some point 👍
  15. Hey brains trust, I recently picked up a used 2014 Octavia 1.4tsi / DSG 7 speed 98,000km’s (60,000 miles) Previous owner purchased it new and it seems to have been looked after (from what my untrained eye can tell) Amongst the paperwork in the glove box I noticed that it was never serviced by Skoda and I also found a recall letter address to the owner. (attached) They didn’t mention this during the sale which slightly annoyed me as it didn’t cross my mind to check the VIN for recalls before I bought it. After a big of digging around on here I’m a little sceptical of the car now. I immediately called them back asking if the work was carried out and they said yes it was. I just want to know, can I call the dealer to double check this? (Will they know or disclose this to me given I’m not the original owner) The car seems to change gears from 1st to 2nd very quickly and takes of from stationary stop quite slowly. Is this normal? Also, has anyone else had this issue fixed on their car, and if so how reliable was the gearbox afterwards? Cheers
  16. *New Octavia owner here and first post* I intermittently get a warning on dash “check rear fog light” with the orange triangle + ! The warning only comes on after driving for about 10 mins. Then it’s gone again next time I start engine. The drivers side (RHD/New Zealand) fog light seems to work and when checking the left there is a bulb there and the filament looks fine. Before I rip out the left bulb and grab a new one to try and fix this, has anyone else had this warning but the bulb wasn’t the issue I.e some kind of electrical fault? In my experience I’ve only ever had 1 rear fog light and seen a few post here about dodgy bulb warnings. Im guessing I should just not be lazy and try a new bulb but starting a thread as it might save me a trip and 30 mins farting around. cheers
  17. Just wondering how you went with the crunchy handbrake? my mk3 Octavia has the exact same stiff/crunchy handbrake. Please help
  18. Hey @toot thanks for that. Dived into this DSG rabbit hole now well and truly. I mistakenly thought they were referring to the 1st recall (MCU oil change) I was wrong I think the previous owners had the accumulator/pressure issue fixed. the new recall from 2019 however, is there any more info on this as I’d be keen to see if I’m affected.
  19. Did the new mechatronics unit fix the leak and did you have any more issues with the DSG?
  20. just on this one - I purchased a second hand Octy 2014 that went into the dealer for the NZ recall on the mechatronics. The person I bought from has “no idea what they did but they did something?” does this mean my 7 speed DSG now has to be serviced as it was opened?
