  1. Currently on Sorn over winter, but will tax it for 1st April and get stuck back into it. Next job is to get the wiring done for some of the police equipment
  2. Finally all back together with new discs and pads and all the correct handbrake cable clips. Tried bleeding the brakes, but just cant get a firm firm pedal. It goes straight to the floor once the cars started. Im sure I don't need to bleed the abs pump as I never let the system run dry. Im hoping I don't need to replace the master cylinder. I suspect the rounded brake pipe nut is letting in air. I run out of time to investigate. I'll worry about it when I'm back from my hols!
  3. Fitted the brake lines that sit onto of the axle, using new clips. I gave them a coat of clear wax as they are notorious for rusting.
  4. Tapped the stub acke threads and on with a new brake shield and hub.
  5. I couldn't undo this brake pipe nut. I tried heat but being right next to the fuel tank i had to stop. I did put a metal shield between, but it was far too risky. I ended up rounding the nut, so I cut the mounting bracket, gripped the nut and then could twist off tge old brake flexi hose. I really should have sectioned in a new bit if hard brake line, but it's all tucked behind the fuel tank, and I was well fed up by now. I think I may regret this later
  6. For some reason I assumed the new rear hubs came with stub axles, but they never. Luckily I hadn't binned the old axle, so I retrieved these, cleaned them up and fitted new sensors. Getting the old sensors out was a mission. In the end I had to burn the plastic casing and smash them out. This would gave been impossible to do on the car.
  7. Marked up the mounting brackets so I could get them back in the same position. Just light surface rust / dirt. Picture makes it look worse. Wad very solid
  8. The rear springs look like they had a bit of life left in them. Just cleaned then up, a lick if paint and new top bushes.
  9. Been plodding on with this ....man, it's sapped my enthusiasm. It's been a battle every step of the way. Typical, the last bolt on the caliper carrier wouldn't budget and rounded the hex fitting. Ended up welding a nut on to it and eventually got it out. One of the other threads needed retapping
  10. Been putting of this job for quite a few years. The crusty back axle and brake lines. I refuŕbed a spare axle and mounting brackets and bought everything new to go on it but its surprising how many part are needed.. As expected all nuts and bolts totally seized. It's one of those jobs you wish you never started. Still need to try and separate the brake flexi hoses from the hard lines and mark the postion of the mounting brackets so that I have some some sort of rear alignment. It's worth noting that the drivers side axle bolt cannot be removed without dropping the mounting bracket, as it hits the fuel tank. End of play today was axle out.
  11. It's Mot time, and I'm fed up of the testers with their oily boots messing up my carpet, so this year I'm taking no chances. Carpet protector layer down, and I'll put the mat over the top.
  12. Took the car to the Skoda Owners Club event today. Still work in progress, but getting there.
  13. It's mot time again. Just a quick wash down and fingers crossed it passes.
  14. Take your petrol flap into your local paint supplier and ask them to colour match it..
  15. Thanks Mike. Do I need to drain the gearbox oil before pulling the plate off?
  16. Thanks for the reply 👍🏼 I tried looking at a parts diagram I can't find one showing that plate/cover as a separate part.
  17. I have a leak on my gearbox and it looks like it's coming from the plate on the bottom that's embossed with the be logo. I removed the 2 bolts but the plate won't budge. I didn't want to force it. Can someone confirm if the plate is removable?
  18. I'm still on the middle of refreshing the suspension, but been trying to get some use out of the car while the weather is good. It looks ok from 10ft after throwing a bucket of water over it.
  19. I bought a cambelt, tensioner ,waterpump and aux belt kit in one of autodocs many sales. I think I could have done the job myself but ended up putting into my local VAG indy to fit, just to be on the safe side. It's the only job I've paid to have done so far on this car. I also bought all new genuine engine mount bolts. I can't understand VAG pricing, some bolts were only £2.50ish and one was nearly £11!
