Finally all back together with new discs and pads and all the correct handbrake cable clips. Tried bleeding the brakes, but just cant get a firm firm pedal. It goes straight to the floor once the cars started. Im sure I don't need to bleed the abs pump as I never let the system run dry. Im hoping I don't need to replace the master cylinder. I suspect the rounded brake pipe nut is letting in air. I run out of time to investigate. I'll worry about it when I'm back from my hols!

I couldn't undo this brake pipe nut. I tried heat but being right next to the fuel tank i had to stop. I did put a metal shield between, but it was far too risky. I ended up rounding the nut, so I cut the mounting bracket, gripped the nut and then could twist off tge old brake flexi hose. I really should have sectioned in a new bit if hard brake line, but it's all tucked behind the fuel tank, and I was well fed up by now. I think I may regret this later

For some reason I assumed the new rear hubs came with stub axles, but they never. Luckily I hadn't binned the old axle, so I retrieved these, cleaned them up and fitted new sensors. Getting the old sensors out was a mission. In the end I had to burn the plastic casing and smash them out. This would gave been impossible to do on the car.

Been plodding on with this ....man, it's sapped my enthusiasm. It's been a battle every step of the way. Typical, the last bolt on the caliper carrier wouldn't budget and rounded the hex fitting. Ended up welding a nut on to it and eventually got it out. One of the other threads needed retapping

Been putting of this job for quite a few years. The crusty back axle and brake lines. I refuŕbed a spare axle and mounting brackets and bought everything new to go on it but its surprising how many part are needed.. As expected all nuts and bolts totally seized. It's one of those jobs you wish you never started. Still need to try and separate the brake flexi hoses from the hard lines and mark the postion of the mounting brackets so that I have some some sort of rear alignment. It's worth noting that the drivers side axle bolt cannot be removed without dropping the mounting bracket, as it hits the fuel tank. End of play today was axle out.- Saving a MK1 Octavia VRS Police Car, FJ54 WYP

Take your petrol flap into your local paint supplier and ask them to colour match it..- MK1 Octavia vrs gearbox query
Thanks Mike. Do I need to drain the gearbox oil before pulling the plate off?- MK1 Octavia vrs gearbox query
Thanks for the reply 👍🏼 I tried looking at a parts diagram I can't find one showing that plate/cover as a separate part.- MK1 Octavia vrs gearbox query
I have a leak on my gearbox and it looks like it's coming from the plate on the bottom that's embossed with the be logo. I removed the 2 bolts but the plate won't budge. I didn't want to force it. Can someone confirm if the plate is removable?- Saving a MK1 Octavia VRS Police Car, FJ54 WYP

I bought a cambelt, tensioner ,waterpump and aux belt kit in one of autodocs many sales. I think I could have done the job myself but ended up putting into my local VAG indy to fit, just to be on the safe side. It's the only job I've paid to have done so far on this car. I also bought all new genuine engine mount bolts. I can't understand VAG pricing, some bolts were only £2.50ish and one was nearly £11! - Saving a MK1 Octavia VRS Police Car, FJ54 WYP
