I have had the estate for 9 months and first I heard about an immobilizer! It comes up on the screen that the immobilizer is active and the car won't start, the battery in the fob is new this year, and when I tried to start with the spare key it didn't start and had a message that the 12v battery was low. Did I turn on an immobilizer by accident? What's going on? I need to leave the house in 20 minutes! Update: the manual just says: The immobilizer enables the engine start exclusively using the original vehicle keys. If the immobiliser components in the key fail, it is not possible to start the engine. A message appears in the display of the instrument cluster to explain that the immobiliser is active. To start, use the other vehicle key or seek help from a specialist garage. Don't tell me all I can do is get it towed?

I just called into another garage and he have me a 2032 and all worked first time. No need to reset/use emergency key! Thanks all!

Thank you for that. It sounds like other posters did not know either. I accessed the lock by watching However, with the new battery none of the 3 buttons show a red light on the remote. Unlocking within 1 minute does not do a sync 😞 At least I can lock the car now with the key. I'll have to go to another garage for another battery in case the last one sold me a dud.

I got the warning message listed on the entertainment screen to change my fob battery. I opened the fob outside a motor factors yesterday and seeing the CR2025 battery I bought a new one. Putting the new battery in and closing the fob, the car won't lock. I replaced the old battery and the same result. Disaster. I had to go somewhere today and leave the car unlocked in a parking lot for half the day. What is going on?

Thanks very much for the info on service plans, news to me. I checked with my regular garage and they were charging €200 for a service so I ended up signing up for the 2-year plan at €10 per month with an booking for a minor service at the end of March was the next available. The wraning light for oil service is on now but hopefully it wil be ok with another 500k.

Thanks all. It's a relief to see I am not the only one confused! @rooted, "Location location location" is a normal reference for owning property but how does it apply to cars? Are you referring to say rust by the sea? Or that garages are more expensive in say London? @varaderoguy looking at the table @rooted posted that a filter service is not needed until 32,000k (20,000 miles) so just an oil change now. Do you guys all use a Skoda dealer? Is that because that adds to the resale value with a clean service record with a dealer? I've never used a dealer before just my garage.

I have never owned a car that was in KM before. The rule of thumb for me before was service every year / 12,000 miles (19,000 km). I usually settled for 1 per year doing around that mileage. I bought the car last June with 132,835K. The garage put a sticker on the window to service by 29 May 2024 or at 147,000k. I did not notice this until the computer came up with an oil change message at 151,673k last month: I WFH and don't consider myself to do much mileage but I am currently at 153,196k! I have not done the oil change yet. What is the recommendation for the oil change/service frequency? Many thanks.

You rock @fabdavrav! I gave that info to the dealer and they found the part....they pulled up the first diagram first and like you say useless! V8V0857763B came in today and they have me a call. It cost €8.89, fits like a glove!

Thank you @fabdavrav that worked! I had not noticed that the top cap is missing ans so the belt and the button on it slips passed and gets jammed. Would anyone know how I can find the part number to order a new cap like the other 2 have?

The day after my 6 month mapfre 6 month warranty ran out last week, I am told the middle seat belt in the back is jammed. I have not been able to free it up, no give at all. It was working when I bought the car and we used it during the summer. Before I start looking for a 2nd hand one just wondering if anyone had had the issue and if there are steps to free it up? Or is there any chance the likes of that has a long manufacturer warranty? Thanks!

I have absolutely no idea. I just assumed. So some noise over bumps is normal?

Lately I have been hearing the front shocks going over speed bumps handy and even over a small low section on a bog road. Not bad yet by any means, but I don't think I should be hearing anything. I still have a standard mapfre warranty certificate issued by the garage I bought from, lasting 6 months, which has 2 weeks left. My local mapfree supporting garage say they will run diagnostics next week and see what the issue is and then mapfre will let them know if they cover the parts under the warranty - I an not holding by breath. If not covered I will pay for the diagnostics. Are these diagnostics available to anyone who hooks in a machine? I could ask my local garage to check quickly maybe if that's the case before bringing to the mapfre garage. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

You'll get a laugh out of this. I left the car it to get a door seal reclipped and mentioned the grill noise. When picking up, your man says to me, the mechanic says you are very religious! I wasn't sure what he was on about and then he showed me what the mechanic found slipped down in the front of the dashboard - they were causing the noise in the grill!!! Careless stuff from one of the last 2 owners. but issue solved!

Many thanks. At the moment if I opened the bonnet I would not know where to look regarding coolant. I am due to drive 200k tonight and 200k tomorrow evening, prior commitments I can't miss. Is it a bad idea driving on a coolant warning light?

I bought the car with 130k. Thanks @langers2k. This is what my coolant looks like now, engine not running since this morning. I talked to the dealer I bought from (2 hours away) and he said when they replaced the timing belt in June, they did the coolant. He said if it was low it could be topped up with water now to the mark. I can't see a mark when I open it, where is it?

The red coolant warning has come on my Octavia which I've had for 3 months after an initial dealer full service. I've never been aware of coolant in my previous passats. Looking at my pdf manual I read that the coolant cools the engine and consists of water and coolant additive. Is it normal for the light to come on so close to a full service? Does one top up oneself or is it a garage thing? Probably unrelated: I have not found it straightforward to demist the windscreen and have found it works best when the AC is on, which seems strange. Thanks for any help!

I've had various issues as I get more used to the car with the reverse camera not always working and issues with android auto such as the latest I found when there is no option to press number when connected to an automated phone system. I opened a thread on these (below) and the conclusion was that my firmware need reflashing! Have ye seen this before? Should I try a new flash of the same download as before

2.0 diesel. This happens not every time, but regularly. The other day it was after a 10k drive back from the school. I've driven in for 5 or 6 100-150k journeys in the last month. I don't remember it making noise at the end of the long ones. But I will may more attention now. It might be an issue so?
