  1. If you go for a 1.6td you will be missed off every time you hitch up the caravan. I wish I had kept looking for a 2.0 td rather than buying a 1.6. The car is OK on its own, but very underpowered towing
  2. Hi. This is about my weekend car which is a 2002 vw golf mk4 150 gttdi. The car starts and runs well apart from a serious lack of power below 2500 revs then it takes off like a scalded cat ove 2700 revs. The turbo has been removed, checked, proclaimed good and refitted by a so called pd specialist (read arsehole) It it gers more than 1/2 throttle uder 2500 revs it loses power completely, won't do more than 3000 revs and doesn't have the power to pull 5th or 6th gear, and even struggles in 4th. Shutting the engine off ant then on again instantly returns it to the nothìng/full power mix. Any of you nice chaps have any ideas for me? Don't say burn it and get a skoda, my daily is a skoda karoq 1.6td which is not a fast car but would show the golf a clean pair of heels!
  3. I have a seriously bad back and legs and I find the Karoqs seat to be near enough perfect for me, along with the higher driving position. The previous Yeti, although it was comfy enough if a bit hard, was not as good fr me as the Karoq. However comfort and riving position is unique to each person, what suits me may not suit anyone else. I would be tempted to tell the dealership how things are for you and ask for an extended test drive long enough to find out if it suits you.
  4. Last winter I removed two quite worn bridgestones from the front of my Skoda karoq front wheel drive and replaced them with two vredestien winters and left two summer Bridgestones with about 6mm on the back. The first shower of snow and the car was undrinkable, plenty of traction and front grip, but the rear was like driving on castors. I immediately bought another two vredestien winters because of the loss of rear grip. My summer wheels, with 4 kormoran all the same age need the fronts replacing. There is virtually no wear on the rears, when they get put back on in the spring those 2 will be on the front and 2 new tyres will be on the back, quite possibly more kormoran as they have been decent tyres.
  5. The kormorans on my summer wheels are apparently one of michelins budget brands. I have had no problems with them on the karoq or on the previous yeti. The vredestien winters are on the standard wheels and I took off 3 approx 1/2 worn Bridgestones and one new budget to fit them. They were quite expensive at £165 a corner. Far ahead of the Bridgestones, but hit a pothole and ruined one at 2 weeks old. Very annoying.
  6. My karoq is a 1.6diesel dsg so can't comment on the petrol. 1. I'm on my 3rd dsg box in different cars and never had a problem. Love it 2.no comment 3.i can tell very little difference in the driving modes, I get best economy in normal and not using cruise control. 4 for improved comfort if it comes with Bridgestones, get rid of them and fit something else. I have two sets of wheels, both 18s one set has kormoran summer suv tyres, the other vredestien winters. Both much better than the Bridgestone ****e 5dont have lane assist, detest the stop start with the dog, turn it off every time I start the car 6no comment 7no comment 8no comment 9never bought an extended warranty on anything in my life. Yes I have had breakdowns but on the whole I have saves more money not buying them. I have owned a couple of fabias in the past, really liked the mk1, not quite as much the mk2, had a golf, a seat Leon dsg, a yeti dsg and current karoq dsg. All diesels apart from the mk2 fabia which was a 1.2 petrol. The karoq is the best of the lot, but it's a hell of a close run thing with the yeti. I would wholeheartedly recommend one, but I'm unsure about the 1.5tsi. My daughter has a 1.5tsi Leon, I don't really like it as it needs revving to give its best. Her previous car was a Leon 1.6tdi, she gets far less mpg from the petrol she has now and is going back to the torque of a diesel next time
  7. I have a Karoq, aftermarket towbar and electrics fitted. No problems when solo, when towing, caravan or small trailer, need to switch off parking sensors after selecting reverse. Its not really a problem as I never reverse the trailer, and rarely reverse the caravan as I have a motor mover on it and far too tight a drive to reverse into.
  8. In nearly 40 years of towing caravans, loaded car trailers etc I have never raised the tyre pressures when towing, and never have I felt any need to. I've towed with everything from 1.3litre small hatches, big engined luxury cars, part time 4wd, full time 4wd to 3.5 ton vans. Just hitched up, fix numberplate, check trailer lights and tyre pressures and off I go. The tow vehicles were and still are my own and the tyre ressures have always been checked regularly.
  9. I've used Victoria garage a few times now. I bought my previous yeti there at a decent price and they had done absolutely every service item to it before I got it. The first service I got them to do was good, the second one along with an mot I had an issue with them. Their over zealous tester failed it with a broken spring, that was OK,but he proceeded to give it about 8 advisories for corrosion underneath and all discs. This was on a 9 year old low mileage car. I let my normal trusted mot tester look at it and he said he would not have mentioned the slight surface rust on rear axle, trailing arms, springs and fuel tank straps. They weren't any more corroded than any car underneath. This devalued my car by about £1000 when I sold it 6 months later. I then put my current Karoq to them for a service a couple of months ago. It was booked on the Skoda UK site and was quoted at about £285 if I remember correctly. They only charged me £208. That was OK. However, they noticed it was 3 weeks from an mot and tried me to let them test it. I declined as it was booked in at my trustedman 3days later. They then gave me an estimate of what they called advised remedial work, including, but not only, all 4 tyres perished, both front struts leaking oil, all 4 discs corroded, and needing pads and there was another couple of things I can't remember. In total it would have been over £1400 of work without tyres. When in for mot the tester said it was disgusting what they had said. He couldn't fault the tyres or shocks, he did give me advisories on all 4 discs, and said the front pads are low but the rear pads are OK. All wheels gave perfect readings on the rake tester. I have got new discs and pads for the front to fit when I can be arsed. So my opinion of Victoria is their work is good, but they are guilty of trying to create extra workfor themselves. I probably will use them for a service again next year but certainly not for a mot.
  10. Local soda dealer, which is only an approved service centre now I think, gave me a print out of all service records held on record for my Karoq. The car was bought from an independent dealer by me. They can't say which dealer did the work, only that it was an approved service centre. It doesn't detail the work done, just the date, mileage and if it was an oil service or oil with inspection.
  11. I don't know what my plate says, but certainly have no problem with my 1350kg caravan behind. Ì use the manual change mode towing or it hunts between the gears too much, and it does not run any hotter towing, but then I'm mostly in the northern part of Scotland where it is always cold!
  12. I have the same car, with the same size of standard tyres. I'm running 235/50x18 on it on different wheels, they are 1/2 inch wider than the standard wheels. The ride is much better on the current wheels. There is no problems with clearances.
  13. I have an aftermarket towbar and 13pin electrics fitted on my karoq, was considerably cheaper than one from soda and was fitted in my drive by the company that sold it in just over an hour. The only thing about it is I have to switch off the parking sensors to reverse. Not really a hassle at all. All the caravan electrics work perfectly. I think it cost just under £500 fitted when skoda wanted over £1200 at the time.
  14. Allegro 1.1. Was gifted to me at 5 years old being a rust bucket which was going to struggle to pass mot.I got it passed with chicken wire, newspaper and filler. Owned it 1 year then it died.
  15. I dislike this coasting. If I pick the eco mode it does this. I never use the sport mode either. Mine is left on the normal mode all the time. I did play around with these modes in the first few months of owning the car. I get the best mpg, according to the trip computer, in normal mode not using the cruise and leaving the gearbox to its own devices. Occasionally I will use the manual via the flappy paddles, but that is rare. Why buy an auto to change gears yourself? I have a 22 year old golf gttdi for changing gears!
  16. My karoo got advisories on its recent mot for all 4 discs being rusty.after inspecting them myself I have ordered new discs and pads for the front and going to leave the back. I live about 100 yards from the sea, and every car I have ever owned here has rusty discs after being parked overnight.my front pads are quite worn hence changing the fronts, but the rear pads are fine, so they will stay. I'm not going to the expense of changing them just for surface rust to reappear almost instantly.
  17. I'm 6 feet and 18 stone and have had a bad back and legs for years. My 2019 karod sel is the most comfortable and best driving position of any car I have owned, and the ride on 18" wheels with 235/50x18 tyres is good. It's maybe not the best riding car I have ever owned, I have had a Citroën Xantia and 2 x C5 with the hydraulic suspension, but its not far off it. Certainly acceptable and I've done over 400 miles towing the caravan with just a 1/2 hour stop with no problems.
  18. £208 for an oil inspection service with extended scope. Can't argue with that. However the advice from them is all 4 tyres cracking. Front and rear brakes discs and pads required £740. Both front skocke leaking and require replacing £465. Brake fluid, pollen filter, and fuel filter advised by skoda to be changed eve0ry two years, £158. Kerching had I said just do all that then nearly £1400 plus 4 tyres to spend! I didn't get the mot done, which is due, I shall see what my usual mot man says next week. I know the front tyres are starting to perish, they are cross climates done nearly 25000miles in 3 years on my yeti then this and got 4mm left, the kormorans on the rear done the same milage, Ica9nt see pershing on them and they are at 7mm left. It won't be getting tyres this year, won't be getting brakes yet unless the mot man I trust says they are done, I may, or may not change the fuel filter and pollen filter myself for just a few quid and brake fluid can live on for now too. Roll on the mot next week to see what he says. I think going by this, and my previous experience of this garage giving my old yeti a list of advisories as long as your arm, most of them unnecessary, about 7 for surface corrosion on axles, trailing arms, springs, fuel tank straps. This is the reason they didn't do the test just now.
  19. I completely forgot I had already asked and you replied! My memory ain't what it used to be. It's going to Victoria garage in Maud for its service on Thursday. I bought my previous Yeti there and got it serviced and mot there. I wasn't very happy about the mot, OK if had a broken spring which needed replacing, but they listed a heap of rust advisories, which in my opinion and the opinion of my usual mot tester weren't necessary. The karoq is due its mot shortly, but I'm going to my usual tester for that. Thanks for the response, again lol
  20. Hi. My karoq is heading to a skoda dealer for a service next week. It was registered the last week of 2018 and has covered 61000 miles. It has been serviced at skoda on time every time apart from last year when it was serviced by the dealer I bought it from at 52k. There is nothing wrong with it, but I am wondering which gearbox it has and if it should be having a gearbox service. All I know is its 7 speed. I do tow a caravan with it which it does well using the manual mode as it hunts the gears too much left to its own devices. The car is a 1.6 dsg 2wd SEL. Thanks.
  21. That wheels will be fine, the standard size tyres will be fine, as long as they are not Bridgestones.
  22. Not necessarily the wheels needing changed. If it's on 18s wheels will be fine, just not with Bridgestone turzana tyres. I have vredestien winters on the standard wheels and size and they are fine. My other wheels are still 18s, slightly wider, Michelin on front, kormoran rear and they are fine. Just avoid Bridgestone summers. I do not know how their winters or ass seasons are.
  23. I have an earlier one with the badge on the back and I prefer that although it's a very minor thing. I find my sat navigation is fine, subject to it not knowing newly made roads, streets etc. I love the car, but its drives slightly better on still 18 inch wheels but slightly wider ones on 235/50×18 instead of the 215/50×18 horrid bridgestones it came on. Its one of the comfiest, best quality vehicles I have ever driven. Mine is a 1.6tdi dsg, it does near 50mpg everywhere, and 30mpg towing the caravan. Great car.
  24. My karoq, which was bought used in Aberdeen is solid grey (primer). I don't particularly like the colour but I'm inside it looking out so don't see much of it. When I sold my white yeti I decided the next car wasn't going to be white again (3 white in a row), black, or anything in between. But when buying a used cat the condition, spec, history etc is more important than the colour, so grey it is!
  25. My daughters car is a seat Leon 1.5tsi manual. It's the same age as my karoq 1.6tdi dsg. I consistently get between 52 and 55 mpg, daughter struggles to get 40. Her previous car was a Leon 1.6tdi. Her current one needs revs, and lots of them to get decent performance. I would not entertain towing the caravan with it, my karoq handles it OK. I was considering a vw troc, the only one I looked at was a 1.5tsi dsg. The salesman tried to convince me that the tsi would be a great tow car as it has 150bhp rather than the 115 of a 1.6tdi. He was a young guy, not much over 20. I politely told him that it's low down torque you need for towing, not power developed at 6000 rpm. I'm glad I held out until I found a diesel to suit me, and daughter says her next car will be back to diesel for her.
