  1. Bags of sand in the boot may of helped many years ago when I had a mk1 cavalier, but not much use now with two front wheel drives. There has not been much snow here this winter so far, but when it was here you didn't need to go far away from the sea to find quite a lot. I'm happy that the karoq has 4 winters the exact same, and all brand new within the last 4 months, tha other set has 2 Michelins, will need replaced this year sometime, and 2 kormoran which are two years old and like new. My local tyre man said they are owned by Michelin and were £90 a tyre two years ago compared to the £145 he was quoting for Michelin at the time. I'm expecting another pair of them will be on this year as I've had no problems with them. I don't mind different makes front and rear, but must be the same across the axle.
  2. I put two vredestien winters extreme tyres on the front of my Karoq, 215/50×18 I think, the standard size anyway, in December. We have not had much snow but the few days we had the carvwas nearly undrivable with Bridgestones about 5 mm summers on the back. This is the first time I have ever had problems like it, plenty grip from the front and the back going allover the place. Therfore the Bridgestones got jettisoned and another ywo vredestien fitted to the rear at a cost of another over £300. This transformed it in the snow next day or two of snow we had. I wouldn't mix different types of tyres now. I have another set of 18" wheels that I was running on my previous yeti. The wheels are vw sirocco wheels with 235/50x18 summers, two different makes but all summers and they were much better than the Bridgestones all round for comfort, and never had a problem with grip in snow with the yeti, but then it was 4wd whereas my karoq is front.
  3. I came into a chunk of money last year, just before my 60th birthday. At the time I had a 2014 yeti elegance, a 140 bhp 4x4 dsg that I had owned for 3 years. It was relatively low mileage and drove like brand new, and looked brand new. I still had 1 year of finance to pay. I changed it for a karoq 1.6tdi dsg, so I have a much newer car with no finance. The Karoq is comfier and cheaper to run. However I miss my yeti. I loved it. I only like te karoq. Its forgettable to drive, forgettable to drive. Will I ever buy another Karoq? Probably not despite it being a good car. Would I ever buy another yeti? Yes. In fact I nearlydid a couple of months ago to use as my workhorse don't care about it car, but instead bought a mk4 golf gttdi. I actually went looking for a roomster. I love the yeti because it's different, a it of an oddball. The only criticism of it I had was the boot a bit small, and the seats a bit hard, although I did 700 miles in one day and stepped out of it fresh enough at the end.
  4. I have auto hold, stop start and all that. Stick it in D and let it do what it wants, apart from when towing when I put it in manual and use the paddle shift when cruising, and D in the towns.
  5. Hi, I have a karog 1.6td dsg gearbox, 7 speed. What gearbox would it be in my car, and how often or even does it need the gearbox oil changed. It is a late 2018 car and has covered just under 57k. It was serviced by skoda at 2 years and 4 years, I do not know what the services covered, and it was "serviced" by Peter Vardy carz when I bought it last June at 52k. I suspect this service consisted of an oil change only, as the tyre pressures were not set as the warning light was on upon collection. I shall be getting it serviced soon and would like to know if to change the dsg oil. I got a towbar fitted and it tows a caravan on occasion so this is why I'm asking. I know the timing belt interval has just been extended to 120k, but the intention will be to change it long before then.
  6. I'm a confirmed diesel driver and want the torque of diesel for towing. My 1.6 diesel karoq pulls my caravan fine, my daughter has a 1.5tsi seat leon, its nippy but needs the nuts revved off it, and wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. It is also far poorer on fuel consumption, by about 15mpg compared to her previous 1.6 td leon. She will be going back to diesel for her next one. So I say go for the diesel in the ops case, save a heap of money buying it and have better trim and equipment and a better drive.

My karoq is a completely different car to drive now having got rid of the Bridgestones and now on 4 x vredestien winters in the standard 215/50x18. I run two sets of wheels, the other ser are kormoran suv summer tyres on 235/50x18 and I have absolutely no wheelspin problems with them. It is a dsg. I wish I had bought a 4wd one though. My previous yeti was dsg 4wd, and even on full winters this karoq has nothing like the grip in the current snow that the yeti had on summers.
  8. The 2 door marina would have looked better if the doors were about 6 inches longer.
  9. I have heated leather in my mk4 golf gtdi. They are comfortable for me and I'm a fat git with major back and leg problems. I also had a bora highline with heated leather which was also good.
  10. My first car was an allegro, a basic 1.1. If you call breakdowns, rust and more rust characterful then count it. Followed bt 2 x vauxhall astra mk1, a 1.3gl then a 1.6sr. Loved them.
  11. My karoq came with a spacesaver but I bought the car used. My wheels are 18s and I replaced the Bridgestones with vredestien winters, which improved the ride.
  12. I've just, today got two new vredestien winters fitted to the rear of my 2wd karoq to match the front tyres which have done not many miles. When I bought the car 6 months ago it came with two Bridgestones in the standard 215/50×18 with about 5mm tread, one Bridgestone on 3mm and a brand new budget unknown on te front. I removed all 4 wheels and fitted the wheels and tyres I had on my previous yeti, which are shod with kormoran summer 235/50×18 which are decent tyres. The standard karoq alloys I fitted the vredestien winters, which were part works from a trusted source, a good mate that had used them one winter doing only 2000 miles. So about a month ago I fitted the standard wheels with winter front and summers on the rear. I have had this many times in the past without any problems, although I know its not recommended. Then 3 days ago the snow arrived. I found the car nearly undrivable, good traction at the front but the back slipping and sliding all over the place. So bit the bullet and ordered two identical vredestien winters. Fitted this morning, the side streets around here are all still white, hard packed snow. Huge difference in the car. Still not as sure-footed as my previous yeti, but it was 4wd, this koroq is not. I will be swapping back to the other wheels in the spring as I prefer the look of them, they are a genuine vag wheel in gloss black. But the moral of my tale is now I say do not mix two different types of tyer on the car. Either 4 summers, 4 winters or 4 all seasons. If changing summers to winters and vice versa it's good to have two sets of wheels, or use all seasons all year long. I now have 2 half worn and one nearly done Bridgestones and one unknown budget only done 50 miles in the shed which I probably will never use. I will probably sell them, someone will take then to get an mot or sell on a car, or use themselves.
  13. Same age and trim as my 1.6td dsg. Personally I think the 1.0tsi would be a poorer engine choice than mine, but I really d Islike small high revving petrols. The rest of the car though is brilliant. I didn't think I could improve of my previous yeti, but the Karoq is the nicest, most comfortable car I have ever owned. I have had it 6 months now, and this one is 3 grand cheaper than mine was., although diesel and dsg would be worth more. I can't vouch for the reliability or longevity of the 1.0tsi, but the rest of the car is worth it in my opinion.
  14. Hi. I'm Davie, I've had various vw, seat and skoda vehicles over the years. My present daily is a Skoda Karoq1.6tdi with a dog gearbox dating from 2019. I've only owned it 6 months. Previous to this I had a yeti 2.0td 4x4 also dsg. My project car, I.e. toy is a golf mk4 1.9tddi 150. This is recently bought and getting sorted out to my liking. I'm 60 years old, divorced and retired medically so need something to fill my days with. I've been active on other forums over the years, all with the same user name if you come across me. I hope to become active here, the karoq is utterly reliable and comfortable so I hope I don't have issues to resolve with it. I may ask questions about the golf, as it has issues, and presumably these issues will be in common with skodas, as it has the 1.9pd 150 engine which is common to many cars.
