  1. Hello all, It did not take long and I decided to upgrade to 18" wheels. They are from a Golf GTD and fit just great. I have not seen a single picture online of an Octavia with GTD wheels, so decided to post it here for everyone. However, do I prefer the 18" compared to the 17"? Yes, just because of the looks. But the ride now is so much firmer and the MPG also got down. Although the latter might be due to the different tyres... Anyway, happy to hear your comments if any.
  2. Check pages 5 and 6 for my comment but generally the whole post is very good and helpful.
  3. Yes, I described my progress in another topic about the retrofit of the HSW. Let me try to find it for you.
  4. Merry Christmas! I had the same problem with the ACC. It was showing an error on the dash and it was not working. After few hours the error disappeared by itself. I read somewhere, that the components undego some sort of a soft reset after few hours of inactivity (overnight to be safe). So maybe this is what needs to be done.
  5. Hello all, just for completeness and as it has not been shown before, please find below an image of both clock springs (the 549D and 569A-my old clock spring) attached. As you can see, the aperture in the middle of the clock spring differs between the models and won't fit onto any steering rack. Also there are mounting holes on the 569 that are missing for the 549. FYI, my car is from November 2016. My advice would be to see which clock spring number you have now and just get the version with the suffix allowing for the addition of a HSW.
  6. Hello all, The modification is done, the HSW is installed and working. I am really happy with the result. It took me some time to complete the job, mainly due to lack of time and ordering the wrong clock spring initially. What happened in my case is that I tried to save some money by going for an older clock spring model 5Q0953549D although my Skoda Octavia MK3 had ordinally 5Q0 953 569 A, which according so some posts here would require a 5Q0 953 569 B to power the HSW. It turns out that the mounting points of the clock springs are different and the 5Q0953549D did not fit the steering rack at all. I ended up buying the 5Q0 953 569 B used from another Skoda and it all worked like a dream. I had already prepared all cabling using an alternative to the Kuafec cable loom (see below) which made the rest of the job rather easy. Please note, that the cable is plug and play, however it is a bit short, and I had to extend the 12V and ground wires with app. 40 cm to easily reach the connector of the clock spring. After installing the clock spring and HSW and coding, I had an error message that the cruise control is not working but this error disappeared after few hours. Interestingly, the coding that I thought to have made, was lost afterwards as well. Anyway, I coded again as described in this topic and voilà, the button for the HSW appeared 😊 Last thing, I was never sure if this modification will work if one has no heated seats, but it does. Here is a list of the parts with prices: 5Q0 953 569 B clock spring - £95 3V0880201 AA Airbag - £110 5E0419091CFCWE HSW - £92 Slip Ring Adapter Cable - £15 Good luck!
  7. Hi @STU3Y, would you be able to provide a link (maybe PM) to the clock spring that you got from Ali? I decided to go forward and start the mod. Just got a HSW from a MK3 (the only difference is that it has one different button: cruise distance vs phone on my car) but I think that should be ok. If not, I will exchange the buttons between both SWs. Then I will need to find an airbag and start the cabling, possibly as suggested by @Purpletom. BTW, thank you guys for all the descriptions and discussions - they are very useful.
  8. Hello all, I also want to retrofit a HSW on my 2016 Octavia. I found a heated steering wheel but my search of an airbag was not so quite successful. I am not able to find one (6V0 880 201 T 1ZY) as mentioned by @Purpletom but I found an airbag that seems to come from a heated steering wheel (2017 model, so it is the facelift) and has the product number 3V0880201 AA. My current clock spring is 5Q0 953 569 A and it has 16 pins. Reading through the posts here I will need to upgrade it but there seem to be different opinions if it should be the B, C, or D version of the 5Q0 953 549 X. So, before investing in the parts, I wanted to ask few quick questions: · Would the 3V0880201 AA airbag fit a heated steering wheel as well (the HSW that I want to purchase is a 565419091G from 2017) · Which clock spring exactly do I need · I have no heated seats, can I only retrofit a HSW? I saw that the coding requires both to be active and will show on the display. So, not sure it will work · Would it be possible to code with a OBD adaptor and an app like Car Scanner (full version) Many thanks in advance.
  9. And please find some images below that show what to expect once the air vents are out:
  10. Hello all, I have been having issues with rattling behind the dash and have still not got to the bottom of this problem. However, I found a great way to remove the grille without damaging or breaking any of the clips. Simply remove the center air vents (there are 2 two retaining clops for each side, you need to lift them up an gently pull out the air vent unit from the bottom and tilting it towards the top). Once the air vents are out, you can reach inside the hole and press the grille clips carefully and then pull the grille out. On my car I had no loudspeaker there, it was a huge empty space...
  11. Hello all, I finally figured out what the problem for me was. Apparently, the connector between the water pump and the ECU harness was not plugged in properly. It did look as if it was, however the connector was not properly "clipped in" which caused the open circuit error message. I can only assume that this has been like that since the water pump was changed (almost 50000 miles ago). Hope this helps other too.
  12. I have to say that I have not thought of the orientation of the caps with respect to the bolts. That is a good one. Next time the wheels come off, I will do that, however that will be possibly in 25 000 miles to fit new tires I got this new set of shiny wheel caps, hence the difference to the original darker ones, however the set did not include caps for the locking wheel bolts and I had to improvise. Maybe I should just remove the darker cap as the bolt itself is brighter
  13. Hello all, It took me some time to fit the wheels. But last weekend I finally managed to bolt them in and here are the results. I am personally happy with this small mod and think that these seat wheels fit better the Octavia. After/before Although the ride is a bit firmer, I do like the improved cornering and significantly reduced spin of the front wheels! Also it feels as if the acceleration is better. Now I have to see what to do with the old wheels, that have almost new tires on them. Anyone interested?
  14. Hello all, After some more research and reading through German forums, I found that Fuchs Titan FFL-2 (previously Pentone FFL-2) is the only VAG approved DSG oil on the market (at least for DQ 250). They apparently sell other versions for different DSGs. So I decided to get 6l off eBay for about £90. A comparable price to the Febi alternative, which is recommended but not approved by VAG. I hope this information is useful for some of you. I hope it is not misleading, either, therefore please correct me if I am wrong. Have a good weekend!
  15. Thanks, Bap33 for the comprehensive manual. Really well explained. I am planning to do the DSG oil service of my new but old Octavia MK3 (with a DQ250) soon as well. I got all necessary tools but I am still not sure which oil to go for. Buying the OEM VW (G052182A2) is of course the safest bet but is it really worth the double price? I see that @Bap33 used Febi oil, which was also one of my thoughts. I see that many use the LIQUI MOLI 8100. These seen to be the only two alternatives, that I am considering. Have you guys had good experience with the cheaper oil options? Have you been using the alternative oils for long period of time (at least 2-3 DSG oil changes) and would you recommend a brand? Many thanks for your comments in advance.
  16. Hello all, many thanks for the quick responses. I called the insurance company today (Admiral) and was told that there should not be any problem to replace the wheels. I decided to upgrade only to 17" although 18" seems more tempting for me ( I just like when my car looks "better" in my eyes, although I know that this is not the smartest thing to do with our roads and taking into consideration that the car is used for commuting as well). I fully agree with nta16 to all points raised and thank you for the comprehensive response. Much appreciated! At the end, my impatience to upgrade (I just can't look at the car as it is, I am used to my old car which had 18" on it from factory) made me choose a set of 17" alloy wheels in very good condition from a Seat Leon MK3 (see below an example of the rims). I think that they will suit the Octavia much better than the current wheels. I will collect them on Monday and if you are interested I can post a picture once I fit them. Thanks again.
  17. Hello all, I recently got a 2016 2.0 TDI CR Octavia which came with stock 16" wheels that look terrible. I would like to upgrade to 18" and found some wheels from a MK2 VRS (they should be 7.5J/18/ET51 but I am awaiting confirmation from the seller). Now I have done some research and it looks like it will be a straight forward swap, however I noticed that the car label in the service book only shows that my car can be fit with 16" or 17" wheels, which is a bit odd. Do you think that fitting the 18" wheels will be a problem in general or even a deviation for the MOT? Many thanks in advance.
  18. Hi all, I recently purchased a 2016 2.0 TDI CR Octavia with 105 000 miles and after scanning it with my obd tool, I noticed the same error code P199E00 - Cylinder head coolant valve Open circuit. I have been trying to find any information online but seem to struggle. Interestingly, the cambelt with pump were done at 65K and the receipt says that an electric water pump was fitted. Rarely, I also notice the P199D00 Error code (short circuit to ground), but currently not present. With this respect, I found that this could be caused by a damaged wire harness ( see below). Some extra infos: I have not observed any coolant loss or overheating (yet). My actual questions are: I would assume that I actually have an electric water pump fit, hence, do you think that the error code is a sign of a failing water pump or rather the electric valve inside? It has done 40K already, which generally means (according to other posts in this forum) that it should be replaced soon. Do you think that the problem is actually the wire harness? Would it matter if I keep on driving like this? I assume that it is ok, just the engine won't be as economical as it should be, right? Any ideas how to troubleshoot and figure out the root cause? Many thanks in advance!
  19. Hello all, just wanted to follow the suggestions from the forum moderator and introduce myself. I just got a 2016 MK6 Octavia estate in Rio Red with the notorious 2.0 TDI luckily (?) in CRMB edition and DSG, so that I can go in London without the need to pay ULEZ (at least for now). I have been happily driving my thirsty classic e46 BMW touring on LPG as a daily commuter until recently, however due to the lack of LPG since 2024, it is rather an expensive daily car to run - the straight 6 does 30 MPG on the motorway. It has been a very good and reliable car (believe it or not despite the 180 000 miles on the clock), but now it will have to be SORNed and become the project car for the time being. The rust needs addressing! So, happy days to come with the new-old family car - the Octavia.
