  1. A long and lenghty topic on the Octy forum some time back was the use of copper grease on mating surfaces between Steel and Ally.

Using copper grease is an absolute 'no go' and is known to cause an acid reaction to the Ally causing corrosion.

Do a search to find what copper grease is made of, you will be surprised at the result.

I have banned it from my tool box.

  2. Insert key into ingnition and switch on.

What normally happens is that you get an audible warning that you have not put the seat belt clip into the stalk.

How does the stalk comminicate with the vehicle electrics to let you know that the belt clip has not been put into the stalk? This is a constant question I ponder on.

The Haynes book of fables states the stalk is bolted to the drivers seat, not so! it's bolted to the centre consul tunnel.

  3. Tried several makes of LED's and some only lasted a few weeks.

I now have Philips Vision 4000k T10 LED's which give a pure white light.

They don't come cheap but have been in use for over a year now.

Can be fitted either way round and do not trip a warning light.

One set I had on a Octy failed the MOT for being having a blue tinge.

  4. I for one feel that for the effort and expenditure, spent on this irrelevant item, it could have been more usefully directed towards many of the other problems which are endemic in the company products.

    Words well said.

  5. My solution was to open up the fag lighter plug and take out the printed circuit board.

I bought a small "Project Box" from Maplins.

Unsolder the 12v curled input lead to the PC board and then solder two wires in it's place.

One wire to earth, the other will be live.

Open up the fuse box cover on the side of the dashboard and the small project box will fit neatly above the fuses.

For the live input wire:- I then drilled a 1.5mm hole through a blade on the plastic part of one of the fuses, a blob of solder to hold.

I then fed the sat/nav lead up the side of the dashboard to the windscreen.

What ever you do, do not cut the lead going to the sat/nav as it is a coaxial lead just like a television aerial lead

Somewher on the Yetti forum there are photo's from a member showing you how to do it.

  6. I was really hoping for an update etc from the opening poster of this thread, he is still around - just looked and saw that he was on this site today!

Yes I am still around and following this topic with great interest.

I feel I should take the car to a Skoda dealer as it's still under warranty but the nearest dealer is some 25 miles away.

Keep up the good work, and many thanks for all the tips.
