VRS TDi awful brakes
I have noticed the brakes on my face lift VRS TDI are incredibly vague. Press the pedal, not a lot happens. It could potentially be poor quality pads / glazed as there is plenty of meat on them. The car had new front discs and pads in 2023, the disks look fine. The car had a brake fluid change in December at a VW specialist. What would be a decent pad to upgrade to?

Remap check........CR TDI 170
Update - I have just checked and Skoda did the emissions correction map in 2016. It then had a Quantum Performance remap in 2019. So I need to work out what was done to the DPF and EGR.

Remap check........CR TDI 170
It is no different in the UK too. Any software modifications would mean the car being put back to standard by Skoda. I will check the date of the remap but I have a feeling it was 2014 which would be before Skoda carried out the correction map work.

Remap check........CR TDI 170
I have just had a brain wave. When did Skoda start the emissions fix roll out? I can check the date on the map paperwork and if the emissions fix comes after, I'll know it was wiped by Skoda.

Remap check........CR TDI 170
So my issue is, the car could be remapped. The garage I bought it from said yes, it has an economy remap and there is a print out in the paperwork with the car. The salesman said it doesn't feel any different to a normal tdi 170 when you drive it though. I do agree, it doesn't feel as quick as my old 320d but apart from paying for a dyno run or driving another CR170 car, I can't think of another way of telling. The remap paper work doesn't really tell me much, it looks like a software map has been applied without a dyno run etc. It says the DPF and EGR have been deleted but the standard EGR is definitely on the car and I am getting soot level readings and regens every 150 miles-ish. I have spoken to a reputable tuner today who remapped my previous BMW and various friends VAG cars and it is £150 to roll back the diesel gate fix software. The EGR is my concern. I don't know if the standard one was playing up and they mapped it out or if it is still functioning. I don't want to end up in a situation where potential DPF and EGR issues the previous owner experienced could all return with me putting the car back to standard. At the moment though, it looks like the car could actually be standard! 3 regens a tank of diesel is crazy really and I watch the fuel needle move when it is doing it.

Remap check........CR TDI 170
Is there a way with VCDS I can see if my car has been remapped? In the service book there is an eco remap printout with a stated power figure but it also said the DPF and EGR had been deleted and they haven't according to VCDS. 205bhp for an economy map on a CR170 seems a bit off to me. It's not a dyno printout, just a stated bhp and lbft. I want to have the diesel gate fix software removed but concerned if the car is running above standard power or has been modified, i'll notice the difference 😄 Last thing I want is engine management lights etc too.

TDI CR170 Lumpy start
Oh I see what you mean now😁 I have left it for 10 seconds. Ignition off. 10 seconds back on, fire it up, car shakes a little.

TDI CR170 Lumpy start
That's crazy. I'll give it a go. So the seatbelt is a pre-req for the glow plugs? I thought on the CR engines as soon as you unlocked the doors the plugs started to heat up if the outdoor temp was below a certain threshold?

TDI CR170 Lumpy start
Nope never. I always jump in, turn it on and then get out of the car and load the boot up.

TDI CR170 Lumpy start
I have had my 2012 VRS tdi for 2 months now and on cold mornings it is starting a bit lumpy. I have noticed the glow plug light quickly goes off when I turn the ignition on and then when I fire the car up it stays on for 5-10 seconds solidly. It's not flashing. The car runs lumpy for 10 seconds and then settles. No codes on VCDS. I have tried ignition on and off a couple of times, doesn't seem to make a difference. It cranks slowly if I leave the car standing for a couple of days in the cold. Could it be the battery? Is there anything else I can check in VCDS?

Columbus RNS510 + Octavia ii carbon surround.
Hi Dave, Would you be willing to sell the fascia separately? I need one and can't find one anywhere.
-
MK2 Octavia double din fascia
MK2 Octavia double din adapter / fascia. This is a direct fit for the Škoda Bolero dash fascia. Made by connects2, never been used. I ended up sending the aftermarket headunit back. £12.50 delivered.

Octavia 2 facelift vRS TDI CEGA
How many km has the car done? A lot have said 250ml ash volume = full DPF.

MK2 Octavia vRS silver interior door / dash trims. Mint condition.
You're right I completely forgot they were plain silver. The fascia I got for my Android headunit is brushed. In that case I will pass mate. Might be worth sticking them on ebay if you have an account. Somebody will have them.

Have you still got these mate or have they gone?

Headlight condensation
I’ve got the same issue on my MK2 FL Octavia. Do the white vents on the rear of the headlight actually open? I have blasted them with compressed air but it looks like there is a screw head in there. I noticed when I bought the car the main rubber cap on the back of the headlight wasn’t on properly. I reckon that was to enhance airflow as with it fully closed it fogs up quickly.

CR170 VRS DPF question
What are the down sides of the correction map? I have seen some people report an increase in fuel consumption due to the regening and some have even said the engine sounds different. Did it cost much to have it removed?

CR170 VRS DPF question
I have read the TDi’s that had the ‘correction map’ regenerate a lot more than the ones that had the cheat software. My Octavia has the correction software, found a printout from Skoda with a disclaimer in the paperwork. At the moment it seems every 250-300 miles it regenerates. Regarding the oil ash reading, it seems nobody really knows. It seems 175ml gets banded about but then somebody got there TDi up to 240ml before the light came on. Somebody hit 400ml in the US apparently! It is frustrating when trying to follow guides that are a few years old!

CR170 VRS DPF question
Ok, update for you all. VCDS has arrived and right on que as the car has started regenerating again. I waited for the regeneration to stop and the results are as follows….. Particle filter pressure - 3mbar Distance since last regen - 10km Oil ash volume - 125ml Carbon mass (spec) 8.4 Carbon mass (act) 0 So it seems the DPF is working, my only query now is why is the carbon mass actual zero?

CR170 VRS DPF question
Thanks this is a great help. The ideal situation would be the DPF is still operating as normal and the results are all ok and the EGR is mapped out. Fingers crossed VCDS arrives tomorrow and I can work out what the tuning has or hasn’t done.

CR170 VRS DPF question
The receipt is from 2020 so maybe the DPF delete was reverted, I am not sure but it definitely says…. Economy remap 203bhp EGR delete tick DPF delete tick The exhaust tips internally are quite sooty which raised my suspicions when my mechanic said the DPF is still on the car. The car certainly does not sound like the DPF has been hollowed out that’s for sure and it does not smoke at all. A VW specialist that serviced it said if the map is good at 200bhp a CR170 shouldn’t smoke anyway. I guess VCDS will prove what is going on.

CR170 VRS DPF question
I have ordered VCDS to see if I can see the DPF information soot level etc. If I can then it hasn’t been mapped out. It is definitely still on the car and it seems to be regenerating every 2-300 miles. The car doesn’t feel 170bhp to me. My previous 320d was 210bhp and the Octavia doesn’t feel much different. EGR valve is still in place no blank fitted.

CR170 VRS DPF question
I have recently purchased a late MK2.5 Octavia VRS CR170. The previous owner clearly adored the car, it's immaculate with a ton of receipts for work etc. I found in the receipts, an eco remap to 203bhp with an EGR and DPF delete. Brilliant I thought, I don't need to worry about those. The issue is, I think the car is attempting to do a regen still. It is cold 6-8c outside and sometimes, after a short journey, the fans are running when I turn the engine off. When it's idling, it's sitting at 1,000 rpm. That is a regen isn't it? I called the garage I bought it from who confirmed the DPF is still on the car and it passes an MOT. It doesn't smoke at all which would kind of back that up. Is it actually possible to map out a DPF but still have a regen cycle?

Octavia Mk2 - Engines, DPFs, Cambelts, Oils, Brakes and Servicing Info
Hi, first post, I have just bought a 2012 Octavia VRS CR170. It is on 130k, excellently maintened but I am confused if it needs a new cambelt or not. The belt was changed on 60k in 2018. It is now on 130k. Is it overdue? If it is, is it a big job on these?
