  1. Hi Andy, you wont have too many problems with variable ( QG1) as the oil is designed with fierce cleaning additives to your engine clean (ish) and high quality polymers to make it stay in grade during it's service. Doing 15000 - 20000 miles with the fully synthetic 5w/30 longlife will probably do no less harm than doing 10000 miles with a lesser quality semi synthetic in. I would recommend using an engine flush( fixed or variable) at each service to keep your new oil cleaner for longer, it's worth the extra tenner. The oil to use is Shell Helix Ultra VX 5w/30, it can be used for fixed or variable, to be used when the handbook calls for 507.00 506.01 506.00, 505.00 504.00 503.01 503.00 502.00 , quoted from the back of the can. Like the other chap said you can change to fixed if you want to. regards wonky
  2. Shell Helix Ultra VX is the one for that engine Mariost Shell in the UK - Shell Lubricants UK Lubematch Tool best regards wonky
  3. It wont be a PD engine if it's 110 hp Andy The PD's are130hp in the octavia's best regards wonky
  4. Hi Gilesk, 5w/50 is not the right oil bud, the octavia II's should be using the 5w/30 longlife oil, either Shell Helix Ultra VX from skoda or Castrol SLX 3 from VW Regards Wonky
  5. Hi Andy, Castrol SLX 3 is what they have used which is a fully synthetic 5w/30 oil. 507.** and 504.** is the next generation oil to be used in VAG engines which are fitted with particulate filters and so on which the old spec oil causes harm to, this new oil now supercedes most of the previous generation oils so the older engines can use this type of oil as well but not the 505.01. It might be worth you checking with Castrol. best regards Wonky
  6. If you buy a thermostat assy it comes with a temp sender in it pal. 047121111S for the 8v Labia
  7. Try cleaning your throttle body with some air intake cleaner first.
  8. Make sure they change the tensioners as well. Like the other chaps have said Castrol GTX is the wrong oil for pumpe dusse engines, it needs to be fully synthetic 5w/40 that meets vw505.01 grade. If the water pump has done over 30000 miles change it as well pal, you buy cheap you buy twice!
  9. If you want to see if you're clutch is on its way out drive along in third at about 2000 rpm and floor the throttle, just after that, still with accelerator on the floor depress the clutch and then release (dump) it. If the clutch is good the revs will fall immediately to where they were, if it's worn the revs will take a long time to fall as the clutch is slipping.
