  4. Hi All, Can anyone help tell me where this is please? Had a look in the boot floor and wheel well, but it’s not there… Need to do front discs and pads soon, and can do that myself. Just not sure of size as Partsinmotion show 300mm, 312mm and 340mm discs when I enter my reg number. Brembo’s website shows the PR code for the relevant disc size, which would help if I could find it! Just being lazy not wanting to take a wheel off to measure the disc šŸ˜… Thanks, Nick
  5. Thanks Buddy! Once I knew where it was, I went to town on the headrest and stitching around the area with Auto Finesse Total using one of their microfibre soft scrubbing pads. I hope this helps others!

  7. Got rid of the last persistent bit of lingering cigarette smell, when looking over my shoulder. It was lingering around the plastic headrest post holes, and I’ve never changed the position of the headrest…I moved it up to discover both metal posts covered in cigarette smoke residue! Just done a 100 mile trip and no more smell!
  8. I had an Arteon from new in 2021…it’s front suspension creaked not long into ownership, and sounded awful when it was running in EV mode, you could hear every creak and squeak! With regards to top mounts, we replaced the shocks on my wife’s Smart last summer; 7 years old with less than 20k on the clock. One of the top mounts fell apart and dropped ball bearings everywhere when we removed the shock, and both front shocks could be pushed down by hand!

My experience with the hatch is that it's very quiet, and surprisingly still has oodles of space - considerably more, and a lot quieter than my previous Leon Cupra Estate, which I'd lined the boot floor and under the rear seat bench with sound-deadening. I'd have probably gone for an estate had I had the choice (but I really liked the car when I saw it), however I've not felt 'wanting', and regularly carry a lot of gear with the back seats down due to the shape of the load (which would require the estate's seats to be dropped too). I've historically gone for estates for the 'just in case' scenario, which I don't think I've ever really needed, but I do prefer the shape, and knowing the rear window is the end of the car šŸ˜‰ Go and check out both, it's got to suit your needs, but I don't think you'll be disappointed with either.
  10. Mine’s non-DCC. Sachs on the front, and as they could only get Monroe at the time, those are on the rear. I’d rather have had the same but as they are both reasonable brands and OEM spec I wasn’t that bothered, and they’ll outlast my time of owning the car.
  11. And clean the Lightning/USB port on the phone, along with checking the cable’s OK. Not all cables are the same if Lightning - are you using a genuine cable, or a third party with MFI certification? I have to do the reset every now and again, and have had to with my Superb, Octavia and Arteon (the least reliable of all 3), so just put it down to a VAG quirk. I also always wait until Smartlink has booted up before connecting my iPhone, and don’t have it connecting via Bluetooth, wired only.

  13. Had front and rear shocks replaced with OEM as mine felt the same; fronts were done a couple of months ago (with springs and top mounts). Rears (shocks only) were done just before Christmas and it feels so much better than it did before. Mine was wallowy, bouncy and felt like a ferry, but all that’s gone now, and still feels comfortable. It doesn’t look cool, but the car’s sitting noticeably about 1-2cm higher all round (I could really see the front looking high before the rear was done!), and with a boot full, the rear wheels don’t disappear into the arches any more!
  14. I’m with you regarding the long life service intervals; would much rather do 10k miles/12months…my wife’s car does about 2k per year, but it gets an oil and filter change yearly without fail. With regards to the 7 speed, I think that’s 80k miles, but again, I’d ā€˜belt and braces’ it and do an oil change at 40k miles - happy to take others’s advice though if that’s wrong! If you’re really agonising over fuel economy then go for a diesel, it depends on what your financial priorities are. I’ll swap your 19ā€ wheels for my 18’s 🤣
  15. I have the older 220 TSi and have done just over 12k miles since buying it 6 months ago. Just checked the app and have averaged 40mpg overall since purchase, which includes a good mix of motorway and city…although bear in mind it will drink like a fish around town! From what I’ve read, you’ll get more from a 190 TSI than the 220, so will be good. I’m happy with its economy and it’s silky smooth…I’m done with clattery diesels šŸ˜…ā€¦and it’s a fair bit more economical than my previous car, a Leon Cupra 300! It’s cheap to run as it doesn’t break, and all I’ve had to do is normal wear and tear items for a wagon its age. From what you say, comfort is paramount and you won’t go wrong with a Superb, I shoulda bought one years ago!

Rear shocks fitted on Monday and got a nice surprise with the bill being about Ā£300 less than expected, as they’d quoted for ā€˜worst case’ including springs, mounts, etc., which it didn’t need. Had the front bushes greased too as it had the standard creaky front end - seems a lot quieter, so hope this lasts. As when the front was done, it’s now sitting a little higher, so doesn’t look like it’s got a saggy rear end now šŸ˜… Also had an exchange steering wheel from Royal Steering Wheels fitted a couple of weeks ago in a bid to get rid of some of the lingering cigarette smell - it’s reduced it by about 80-90%, so very pleased. It looks and feels better too, as it’s a couple of mm thicker than the original wheel, and is in effect brand new, so nice and matt. Have a great Christmas all! Nick
  17. You made a good choice avoiding the Arteon IMO. It’s still one of the nicest looking ā€˜mainstream’ cars on the road, especially in Shooting brake guise, as I had it, but… VW’s obsession with capacitive touch everything was just awful in reality…having it on the steering wheel was just absurd, especially with the cruise control/speed sign detection not working properly…it was all too easy to just brush across the controls when steering and activate cruise control, the heated wheel, etc. Just dangerous. Physical buttons are what you need in car, so you can feel they’re there…
  18. Hi Damian, Good stuff, pleased you were able to pop the panel out. No coding needed, the USB port is ā€˜dumb’. Just keep searching for the correct one, or I guess you could just buy one with the headphone socket and swap the actual USB socket over; I didn’t need to do but that I guess it’s also easy to remove from the panel.   19. Hah! you've been suffering the delays too then @Trickiejohn ! It'll be good when it's all finished... I just think that the speed recognition is too clever for it's own good and too reliant on other inputs such as satnav. I'm glad to be rid of it and just have 'normal' ACC in the Superb. Was speaking to an old friend/ex-colleague the other day and apparently my successor is counting down the days to the lease ending on that Arteon - and he only started a few months ago! Cheers, Nick
  20. You’re welcome, Buddy! I popped the panel out with my fingers, it’s just clipped in, so a little bit of gentle persuasion here and there and it just pops out. I got it used from eBay, a little over Ā£20 with the USB socket and cigarette lighter intact, so just needed to disconnect the plugs and reconnect to the replacement. Just do a search for Å KODA Superb USB port and loads will pop up, some had detailed photos, so if you look at those, it’ll give you more of an idea of how it’s clipped in 😊

See if there are any software updates; I had an Arteon with the speed limit recognition and had the same experience regularly on the motorway heading west on the M4 going under one of the Reading junction roundabouts where the car would randomly slow down to 60mph. From what I could gather, the cruise control was linked to the satnav database, so if that’s incorrect then you get the problem. I had an instance on a national speed limit road with cruise control on. It suddenly started to accelerate to an indicated/detected 80mph whilst heading towards a village! The database incorrectly showed an 80mph limit through the village, rather than 30mph! One of the many OTA updates at one point did disconnect the cruise control from the speed limit recognition which instantly provided a fix to one of the many software problems with that tub of bolts!

  23. Well it’s funny you say that… This is the most softly sprung wagon I’ve owned, simple as that, and it has taken some getting used to. That being said, the shocks were replaced on Thursday, along with top mounts and springs, and it was obviously well worn, considering how it feels now (and the removal of clatter and rattles). I’m glad I did stick with standard replacements, as it’s definitely stiffened up, however is still supple but now doesn’t feel like it’s wallowing about of bumps and undulating surfaces. The only problem is that now I’m thinking the rear must be in a similar state as the front was, so should get the rear shocks done sooner rather than later… Cheers, Nick
  24. Major service, DSG service and brake fluid change completed yesterday. The main dealer hadn’t done the DSG service at 40k, so it was 12k overdue, and I reported a whining noise while crawling in traffic in 1st and 2nd gears. The oil was bit dark, as they said they expect with an overdue service, but importantly there was no metal in it. They could hear the whine on the road test, but not when up on the ramps, and couldn’t hear anything untoward when listening to the ā€˜box with a stethoscope, so can’t report anything else, as it drives fine. Apart from a leaking front shock, which they’re pricing up options for, as I’ll do all four, it was given a clean bill of health!
  25. Update as promised! Garage reported that front near side shock is leaking, which would explain the symptoms I reported. Of course it was raining yesterday so the creaky bushes were quiet when I drove to them, but they know it’s an issue with the MQB cars. We had a good chat about what I want from the car, and decided to stick with standard suspension, rather than upgrade it. They’re going to price up a few options (genuine/OEM shocks) and give me a worst case scenario price including bushes, drop links, etc. They gave the car a full once over, and other than the suspension, gave it a clean bill of health, which was a relief! Will report back again once it’s done!
