  1. These coolant lines were a pig.

Those stupid clips are the devil's work lol.

Plastic lines were old and had a few tiny hair line cracks just allowing water to seep out. All replaced with genuine items.

I think the vent has an electric cooler under it, so I'm guessing they wanted that for another car

The fan is still with It i just need to wire it in, I've tested that and it still works. Whether there was anything else I'm not sure as it all fits together as it should and there's no signs of anything else being fitted inside the car.

Weird that they would have gone to the trouble of plating, filling and respraying the hole only to stick the vent back on top of it!

Interesting re the arch roller, does the paint flake when you use it?

I have found that the paint on earlier Skodas was remarkably tough and resilient and has rarely flaked when I have beaten out smaller dents against a rubber dolly. Well actually a rubber sanding block!

The vent was the main reason I bought it and it baffled me too that they'd gone to all that trouble yet all the lights were still in the grille, bumper and tailgate.

Ideally you use a heat gun to soften the paint before rolling so it doesn't crack. My wings need painting anyway (the whole car does) so didn't bother and only got minimal cracking where it was already flaking away.

So what was holding the roof vent on if the hole had been plugged?

    Was it stuck on?

Maybe after the filling and paint repair the rubber seal line bled through the new paint so they stuck the vent back on to hide it?

What is that tool for in the wheel arch, is it to roll back the arch return lips to give more clearance or does it flare the arches? It looks like a specialised piece of kit or are you using it not for its intended purpose?

All it was held with was sealer, I originally only removed it to replace the sealant and found no hole.

The tool in the picture is an arch roller designed to roll the arch lips flat and flare if needs be.

  5. Found the hole. Metal plate tacked on the inside and filled over.

Good job it wants painting as it'll need tidying unfortunately sure but for now I have a functioning vent. Just need to wire the fan up to a switched live and a button on the dash somewhere.

Well, I've decided this is the end of the Darkside Octi, moving onto something more sensible. It's been great fun whilst it lasted, but the bodywork is letting it down and the rust is starting to worm it's way through the sills, inside out. As it's almost 170k miles it's done very well for all it's had and I've enjoyed every moment of it.

As no one will buy a pre-modified car, I plan to strip it and sell the decent parts, engine, ECU, turbo, 4pot brakes etc and scrap the shell.

Msg me prices on parts of  insta young man, I need to crack on with the estate and tidy that up

  7. New exhaust rubbers, psb rear arb bushes and some new smoked dynamic wing mirror indicators today.

I do miss having a driveway since we moved but it won't fix itself lol.

All new arms, bolts, nuts and washers for the rear ready to go on when I've sourced a rear subframe to get blasted and powdercoated to build back up rather than have the car off the road. Still need to get a few new subframe bolts too.

Nice! Are stance + coils that bad? I was looking at getting some for my mk1 but I've heard a few times that they are just rebranded Joms' in a different colour

Both rears failed after 8 months so were replaced under warranty and 4 months on I think ones leaking again. Fronts seem to have gone soft aswell. They are Harsh ride but some like that. I wouldn't buy them again as they're only just over a year old now.

  9. Been a while.

Always wondered why we couldn't feel any air coming through the roof vent so decided to check......sure that's supposed to be cut in especially being a dog unit.

Standard Exhaust snapped while doing a tip run so took a punt on the gravity stainless, lovely fitting bit of kit and sounds nice too. I'll be ordering their sports cat soon.

Got a box full of new bits to tidy up the underneath, all new rear arms and I'll be on the lookout for a subframe and arb to get blasted and powdercoated so it's all fresh. Got a bag full of bolts, nuts and washers from tps to replace all those just need to order up the subframe bolts and I'll do the deadset kit while I'm there. Then onto the front.

Hopefully the next few months I'll be swapping out the nasty stance+ coils for some bc's and it'll be booked in for paint (fingers crossed).

  10. Not a lot to report really, still munching miles and behaving. Found some spare dodomat left over from my van so lined the boot floor and inside the tailgate to quieten things down and hopefully keep a bit of heat in for the dog.  Rear badge recess welded up.

To cold for anything else but I should really finish the smooth front bumper next.

  11. Finally managed to get booked in with my mate for cill repairs at the end of this week. other than that not a lot going on, had an issue with the boot not unlocking so replaced handle, switches and actuators to sort that.

  12. Been putting this job off for a while now. Thought I'd best attack it and get all the crappy damaged stonechip off and straighten the sills.

This is what you get for not checking behind the inner arches and jacking on the sills.

Off to a mates for reconstructive surgery soon so hopefully be as good as new

  13. Never really been one for cleaning but as my jetwash hose burst it gave me the perfect excuse to get a new hose with a short quick release trigger and foam cannon. Also autobrite had an Easter sale so picked a few bits up. Doesn't scrub up to bad.

  14. Much needed brake overhaul to mtec dimpled/grooved discs and ebc greenstuff pads.

Took much longer than it should have due to every bolt being about 6 million nm tight.

All back together to find I'd got a stuck slider (should have checked really, rookie error).

    All good now though :)

They're amazing dogs, we've only ever had staffies and all have been brilliant. The girls used to dress the last one in dolls clothes and alsorts when they were little lol.

We got syd at 8 weeks old and she's been a barrel of laughs, complete opposite to the last one she was really quiet and loved the quiet life. This one is an absolute loon, loves to play, swim, give you kisses (always on the mouth), lick you to death. She's just full of energy and sometimes forgets she's not tiny anymore when she's jumping all over you with near on 4st lol.

  16. Yeah mk6 golf, they're slightly different to the mk5 ones and need a little trimming round the bottom of the rear door shuts from what I saw on the initial test fit. Weathers not been great so I've not had time really to get them on and have a proper look. I do have another front bumper I'm smoothing the plate mount out of and I'm trying to get hold of a cheap rear bumper so I can send them all to paint at the same time without having to have the car off the road for long.
