  1. I had a similar issue on a mk2 Octavia hatchback, where even the emergency release did not work. I used the estate emergency release instead, which is above that on the hatchback and uses a screwdriver directly on the release mechanism. Having freed the hatchback and checked the solenoid was working fine, it was still not opening without the estate emergency release. Further investigation revealed the the lever from the solenoid to the release catch was no longer aligned, it had moved forward so as to miss the release mechanism. With a screwdriver I pushed the lever rearwards at the fulcrum. That fixed the issue.
  2. This leaves me completely confused, but I think I will stick to the purple G13, even though the header tank has G12 written on it, the hand book clearly states G13. Worryingly, when the cam belt was changed just before I purchased the car, the garage used pink coolant (G12) and over filled the engine oil, hence I have little trust in garages.

  4. Hi all, I changed my DRL bulbs for 6000K LED bulbs and it seems a great modernising and visibility improvement. Much better than the dull yellow standard bulbs, I would recommend them.
  5. Thanks MikeTheThinker, This was the closest I could find, as attached photo. Thanks again for your replies Wheel cover.jfif
  6. Managed to get some trims that aren't too bad a match, not the same, but okay. Thanks again to all
  7. Thanks MikeTheThinker, I'll see if I can get some not too far off, as it seems I wont get the real deal. Thanks again for your replies
  8. Just standard steel 16 inch spare wheels, plain black with 205/55/16 tyres.
  9. Thanks MikeTheThinker, Can't seem to find wheel trims to match so far, but I'll try another day to see what turns up. Thanks again
  10. Thanks, that was quick and very helpful. All I need to now is to see if I can get a couple of wheel trims for the spare 16" wheels. Thanks again.
  11. Thanks for the reply, please see attached photo
  12. Yes, very much so, a complete smokescreen to escape detection
  13. I just thought that I would post about my blown turbo to warn other of the best immediate action. The sudden failure produced a massive smoke cloud that sucked out all the oil within a few hundred yards. The moral of the story is to stop ASAP to prevent all the oil being used and possibly damaging the cat in the process. I was advised that if you stop ASAP the damage can be limited to just the turbo and the car economically repaired..
  14. Hi everyone, Having just upgraded my Mk2 facelift 2010 Octavia, it has 17 inch 14 spoke wheels, which I can't seem to find the name of. As I now have two unused 16 inch spare wheels, I thought that I might run them for the winter if I can find suitable similar wheel trims. Would anyone know if there are any around, or what the name of the 14 spoke wheels are to help me search?
  15. Thanks Carlston, a very comprehensive explanation.
  16. Now that the DMF has been changed, it is back to normal. Thanks again for the answers posted.
  17. In a similar vein, I was looking to fit J7 16 ET42 wheels (from an Audi A4) with 205/55/16 tyres to my 1.9 tdi 2006 BXE. Can anyone advise if that is a suitable fit?
  18. Thanks for all the replies. It seems that I would be safest to fit any of the wheels and tyres listed on the fuel cap label. I have looked at the tyre size comparison data sites to understand any changes. One of the sites suggests that OE fit is 15 inch wheels, which is the smallest stated in the fuel cap list. Thanks again everyone.
  19. On the same theme, would 235/60/16 fit an Octavia mk 2? As I am looking for a softer ride than my current 225/45/17 tyres. Thanks
  20. My Octavia has scrubbed out the rear tyres on the inside. A few years ago this happen and I had the rear suspension bushes changed. It has now happened again, so it's booked in for the garage to check as I can't find an obvious fault.
  21. It's now become evident that it is the DMF on it's way out. Looking to get it changed next month and nursing it in the meantime. Seems that many DMFs have a limited life, some say 100,000 is a good innings, not sure what members think of that.
  22. Thanks nta16, my daughter does non of her own maintenance other than putting fuel in! So I'm the one lubricating the mirrors! As you say, shake, upright, cap, straw, is how I always treat sprays. Thanks again.
  23. Got one from Amazon for £2.75 thanks
  24. Thanks nta16, I'll look for some GT85 to make it easier for her.
