Isn't wood trim standard equipment in the Elegance? I know that some of it can be exanged with fake "aluminium" trim, but at an aditional cost. Belive it to be approx £50 or so for the cheaper looking plastic/alu trim. But why on earth would anyone prefer plastic "alu" trim over wood in the first place??There really are som "strange animals" out there!?
How old are all you fake wood lovers out there....do you all wear string backed driving gloves as well?!
When my company car was on order I kept telling my fleet manager that if the car arrived with "wood" trim I would refuse to sign for it...I think it is absolutely vile.
Horses for courses as they say.

Not sure if my answer will help much but our company has a benchmark car, it is a BMW 318d SE 4 door metallic....if you can lease your chosen car (75K miles/full maintenance) for the same price or less as tthe BMW then it is allowed...my Superb 170 Elegance with metallic and Park Assist came in £5/month under the benchmark.

I think GK has a point...as "user chooser" company car driver I was looking at the Superb 170 elegance and the 170 vRS estate with Columbus/Xenons etc...I wouldn't have considered an L and K.

It's one of those features that never seemed to have caught on...I always thought that it may have been because;
1 patent issues
2 insurance companies not liking them
I had a Ford with one once and it is a great feature.

You can do it the other way round, find out what's in the system and choose one of those...for my car I def wanted Black leather/silver trim and Park Assist I was pretty easy on colour, the car came about a month after ordering.

The seats have been playing up as well , especially the passenger seat reclines itself when the vehicle is parked up , i am not always aware the seats have moved straight away and i do wonder if the moving seats are tripping the alarm
Richf
Interesting point about the seat reclining, I thought I had a problem, but found that when my wife was getting out of the passenger seat, as she has arthritis, she has to swing her legs to touch the ground, the lift herslf clear of the seat. In doing this her leg presses on the side on the seat where the recline button is, therefore the seat is reclining as she is trying to get out! Don't know if this is any help?
Snap, I also thought I had a problem with the passenger seat but realised it was passengers getting out pushing the switch!

My umbrella was missing, the supplying dealer effectively accused me of lying, he said he would send one, he never did and I haven't chased him.
I've heard they are often missing

Also drive a 170 Elegance, just had mine changed at 12500 miles (wanted them done at 11500 but tread not quite low enough and Lloyds TSB autolease wouldn't authorise), guy at ATS said 12500 was quite normal.

At the risk of sticking my head above the parapet, has anyone considered the safety benefits of NOT using a phone (even Bluetooth) whilst driving? The company I work for actually banned the use of phones whilst driving, irrespective as to whether a handfree device or Bluetooth connectivity was used.
My employer has just done the same, use of phone is forbidden and must be switched off.
Think it's to do with corporate manslaughter.
Not too bad actually, it's like the good old pre mobile days where my boss can't get hold of me!

My colleague drives an Audi A4 1.8 TSI, he thought it was the 160 version (that's what was ordered, he hadn't realised the 160 has a red T and the 120 a silver T on the boot).
His suspicions were aroused accelerating away from the M6 toll booth when a friend of his in a 170 diesel A4 pulled so far ahead of him, he's trying to act OK but I think he's gutted!

castors.
That is the funniest post I have ever seen on Briskoda....thanks Bengie, you've made my day!
In all seriousness though I'm still convinced that the car Jonathan drove on 18s could have still had the transport chocks in place. My Elegance was delivered with the chocks in and I drove it for a fair while thinking "Jeez, jcblincs was right after all!"....the ride was really hard.
However since they've been removed I simply do not see what there is not to like about the ride, it rides beautifully.

Yes, I agree, but 16 inch wheels are a standard size fitted to bottom of the range - 16” ‘Spectrum’ alloys (7J x 16” 205/55 R16 94V)
Yes and that looks ridiculous too!
Sorry Jonathan, as long as your happy with it.

140 = Silver T, Silver D and a red I
170 = Silver T, red D and a red I
But....a badge is just a badge, the way to really know you have the right engine is the sticker with all the option codes in the service book...the 170 has the power listed as 125KW (I think the 140 is 103KW), to make doubly sure cross reference the chassis number on the sticker to that in your windscreen.

Thank Jonathan
This isn't working.
May have found my problem, I was ripping and burning windows media files not mp3, have changed the setting and I'm now trying again.

Mid 1990s, leaving Foxholes near the East Yorks/North Yorks boundary I remember a Volvo S40 T4 (yes I know it's nothing compared to most of the posts here) overtaking me and climbing up the steep hill (southbound) as if it was rocket powered.
It was the combination of the speed and the ease with which it devoured the long steep incline that left its mark.

Rotodiesel, i agree with you about the marketing, it is absolutely hopeless. If you look on youtube there is some really good advertising for the Superb from (I think) Holland, I will try to find it and post the link.
My views; I know there are private owners on here but this is essentially a fleet car. I chose the Superb for my company car as I felt pretty much nothing else came close for the allowance (170PS,touch screen sat nav, leather/electric seats, bending bi-xenons etc). I also think it's handsome looking and is a grower, interior/boot space are best in class.
I get a lot, and mean a LOT of stick over my car from my colleagues...they all love it, but still give me stick...it really is quite bizarre. The vast majority of people's views have moved on not one jot from the time of my first Superb in 2003. Skoda STILL have a major image problem and they need to do something about it...I'm no marketeer so I don't have the answer.
Finally I don't understand what problems the platform will cause.
Here's the ad;

Thanks Jonathan.
I've now ripped and burned (on Media player) an album, this disc will play on the columbus but I can't for the life of me work out how to transfer from the CDR to the hard drive.
Any more clues?
Dan

Firstly, yes I have RTFM, secondly I admit I am technologically inadequate.
I've had my car 3 months and have finally faced up to the task of getting something on the hard drive.
I think I've worked out I can't just put a CD in the columbus and copy it.
I've burned a copy of a CD (using Nero Express) and this will play on the columbus but I can't work out how to get into the hard drive.
Can someone Please (in a very easy to understand way) help me?
Thanks

Still takes a minute to warm up though! (have used leather heated seats) and the other half does not like leather because of the heat in summer.
Point taken....found them OK this year though (got my car early February)...I'll have to wait to see how they are in the heat (fingers crossed) this summer.
Dan

Looks just like leather, I had to put my hand in in my pocket for a SE!, personally would go for an Elegance but I do prefer the SE seats as material will not burn your bum in summer or freeze it in winter (most sales are for elegance).
The Elegance seats wont freeze your bum in winter as they're heated...I'll have to wait for the summer to see if they burn! I guess my black leather will get hotter than the Ivory.

Can't deny it looks amazing....but I never quite get the detailing thing, after half a day wont it have the first layer of grime?
The local IMO has a £1.30 offer on at the moment:eek:

Hey Dan,
Just wondering where abouts you might be heading? Woulld love to get a look at your car if you are going anywhere near Cork? Only seen SE an Greenline cars here and love to see a top spec and on 18's
Bryan
Sorry Bryan, we're headed for Castlebar, a long trek from Cork. Last time I was over I had a nose around the Skoda dealer there, you guys sure pay an awful lot of money and for a lower spec car.

I would guess Alex is right about the diesel residual value being higher.
For my company car the quote (lease price) for the 1.8 DSG Elegegance was higher (came in over my benchmark) than the 170 manual Elegance (the car I now have) even though the petrol is the cheaper car. Presuming discount levels are similar between petrol and diesel this implies the residual for the diesel is (expected to be) better.
