  1. All done and working! Download on 150mbs broadband took approx. 55mins. Unpacking to SD card via USB3 took approx. 38mins. Uploading to Columbus took approx. 40mins.
  2. Looks like Skoda have fixed the broken link. The official link on the update portal page is now working. I've downloaded it, currently unpacking to SD. Hopefully the final step will go ok...
  3. This link doesn't work for me, select Volkswagen then Discover Pro, it offers a map from November 2014. If I click on download it just comes up with an error page...
  4. False alarm, the download link on the portal does not work!!! ( server error 404 not found )
  5. Hi. I've just checked the update portal and there seems to be a new map on there, ECE 2017, for my Columbus. Has anyone tried this and confirmed it works?
  6. Hi all. Having bought a new dashcam which has the facility to perform time-lapse recording when the vehicle is unattended I've had an idea on how to power it without draining the car battery. I know specialised electronics are available to monitor the state of the car battery and turn off any connected devices when the voltage gets too low but I have in my "really useful one day" gadget box a 20,000mAh battery for charging iPads, phones etc. and I'm thinking I could use that instead. I've rigged up a 12v supply that switches on/off with the ignition via a piggy back fuse. I'm thinking that I could feed that to the battery ( via the usual 12v-5v converter) and connect the dashcam to the battery output. Has anyone already tried this and if so was it successful?
  7. Anyone have a link to the skoda site from where the smartgate update can be downloaded? Can't find anything on their main site and there is nothing on the update portal...
  8. I wonder how Manu of us rushed to read this latest post only to find it has nothing to do with the "navigation data update available" subject. Perhaps better to start a new topic than to raise false hopes that the update has finally arrived
  9. Thanks for the advice. I returned the LGK4 to O2 and got a refund. Picked up a 2nd hand Google Nexus 5 running Android 6 in mint condition for £40 and it works a treat. Just hoping that Waze is made Android Auto compatible then I'll be very happy!
  10. Do you have experience of upgrading the ssd on the MkIII? Where is it located? What is the process for formatting it and initialising it with the Columbus?
  11. If you are moving from the BMW to a Superb the quality of the Columbus will blow your mind! I swapped a BMW 320ED for a Superb L&K, best decision I ever made...
  12. No it's not that clever I'm afraid. Each socket is treated as a separate source which you have to select manually. To be honest I prefer it that way as I like to store spoken word/comedy shows/podcasts on the limited space of the jukebox ( the SSD ), classical/jazz on the USB and the rest on the two SD cards. It keeps the "database" view nice and neat as you don't get pop/rock/classical composers/comedians etc all mixed up when listed in the "artists" view. The database view only shows data for the currently selected source...
  13. Autocorrect is rubbish, for sub read usb...
  14. I think I read in an earlier topic that the internal hdd is actually a 30Gb ssd. My L&K has 11.5GB available space on the ssd, nothing saved to it, rest taken up by system. I have a 128GB sd card in each slot + a 128gb sub stick in the sub socket. Enough room for my music collection...
  15. I have just purchased a cheap PAYG Android smartphone to try out Android Auto in my MkIII, with a view to using it on an upcoming holiday to France. ( Already tried out my iPhone 6 with Apple Play and that works fine ) I bought an LG K4 which was on offer at O2, 1Ghz Quad core, 1meg ram,8GB internal storage, Android 5.1.1 for £50. Before purchasing I checked the Android Auto website for a compatibility list but there isn't one, it just says the minimum requirement is that the phone must be on Android 5.0 or later. A bit more searching reveals a caveat saying some phones may not work because they don't have enough memory or the wrong type of video processor. No info on minimum ram requirement though. So having wasted £50 I thought it might be a good idea if we could create a list of compatible/non-compatible phones in this Forum, preferably pinned ? I'll start the ball rolling:- iPhone 6, 32Gb storage, iOS 9.3.2 - Compatible LG K4, 8Gb storage, Android 5.1.1 - not compatible, Android Auto phone app will not start just says "incompatible phone" Any of you recommend a cheap(ish) Android phone that you know is compatible ? Doesn't have to be the latest model, just one that works TIA.
  16. Took delivery of my Superb 9th April 2016, it already had the ECE 2016 maps installed. The maps currently available on the download portal are exactly the same as those I already have so NOT an update...
  17. Ordered one of these a while ago. Finally got around fitting it today and it went on perfectly, not a single air bubble or dust particle! Took no more than 30sec from start to finish. You just can't tell it's there, matt finish with no reflections and the Columbus works just fine. £3.95 worth of peace of mind... TVM to original poster.
  18. I've followed the instructions above using the VW site to import a few sets of POIs which I created in Google Earth and saved as .kmz files. Using the German VW site everything worked fine and I now have all of my custom POIs in the Columbus. I decided to try the Skoda My Destinations site to do the same thing but it doesn't work. It imports each of the POI sets, let's me name them and attach a jpg picture. When I press the import button my POIs appear in the list BUT it shows zero destinations in the set. These are exactly the same .kmz files that I imported using the VW site so why do they work there but not in Skoda My Destinations ??
  19. Does anyone think there will be a general recall to apply this fix or on customer request only?
  20. I've had one last try with a sticky pad, left it overnight so the glue had chance to work. So far so good. Camera still attached and working fine. If it gives up the ghost and falls off I'll go with your suggestion and use short screws to attach something that the pad will stick to. I hadn't spotted the void behind the black plastic, I thought the led strip would be there but now I've looked I see that it runs along the top of the housing clear of where the camera mounting goes. Thanks for the advice Gizmo.
  21. I was having problems fitting my mini806, no GPS lock. If I just left it sitting on the dash I got a lock with no problem ( I guess enough signal through side windows reaching it ) but as soon as I stuck it to the screen below the rear view mirror there was no GPS. I repositioned it so that the bottom edge of the base ( which has the GPS receiver ) was placed just where the black dotted area starts, to the left of the mirror console but still no joy. Having looked closer I could see that the metal film for the heated windscreen actually extends into the dotted area by about 2 or 3 cm. I've now mounted the base just above that line and bingo! GPS now locks and stays locked. The black dots are now just visible in the top of the picture but only cover the sky so no problem recording road. Fitting the rear one is a bitch, 3M sticky pads refuse to stick to the black plastic cover of the high brake cluster. Will try cleaning with methylated spirit and abrade get slightly to see if that works...
  22. Thanks for the help guys. Perseverance has paid off, It opens almost every time now! I think I was standing too close, standing just a fraction further back seems to have done the trick Can concentrate on fitting the rear dashcam now... Front one took a while to fit, had to reposition due to lousy GPS signal but fine now, all plumbed in via a piggy back fuse. I've run a 12v feed from the piggy back connection all the way into the boot where I've positioned a second 12v to 5v USB power supply. Just need to run the USB cable up to the cam and get the camera mount to stick to the black plastic trim behind the high brake light. First 2 3M pads have refused to stick. Going to clean with methylated spirit and abrade slightly to try to get better adhesion.
  23. Yeah, doing that already although I had been waving it side to side before RTFM Guess I'll have to drop it into the dealer to et the sensor checked out. By the way, do the doors and/or boot have to be already unlocked before the opener works ? just curious, I have tried all combinations...
  24. Is it just me or is the automatic boot opening on the hatchback complete crap? I must have spent the best part of 2hrs now waving my foot about under the back bumper, much of it to the enjoyment and big grins from passers by. It does work very occasionally, about 1 in 200 attempts so I guess the sensor is working but in my opinion it's next to useless! I have followed the manual diligently, tried both to the left and to the right of the centreline just in case it's a LHD/RHD thing but no joy....☹️ Anyone have an tips?
