  1. I'm up for it, if I can get off work, or if it's any time in the week commencing 20th September as I'm on hols that week. 1) Tavia4x4 - Ian 2) Dr Zoidberg 3)Alex - Alex 4)Javaman - Joe (92.38% certain... ) 5WRCSixtyThree - Dan
  2. Zen Internet www.zen.co.uk Consistently high in performance and reliability studies, all the features you need and very reasonably priced.
  3. I appreciate everyone's concern but I'm unlikely to start 'doing it myself' unless I'm absolutely certain what I'm doing... That said, I'm not scared of the ECU, wiring looms or circuit diagrams as I have plenty of experience in that area... I've already got VAG-COM and have relatively easy access to VAG 1551 if necessary as well, but I'll have to see what happens when i get the parts. I appreciate that it might well be easier to get K to do the job, but the nature of my work means that due to 24 hour on-call rotas I get very little time to go dashing off around the country to get things done to the car. It's generally a case of do it myself in the evenings or don't get it done at all. I can't even get days off without twelve weeks notice :( When I chipped a tooth recently it was seven weeks before I could see a dentist. Plus if I can get the parts at cost and save
  4. Well, I'm hoping to get a mate of mine to do it... He used to be the workshop manager for an Audi garage, now he's working for *spit* BMW. Should at least be able to get the parts at cost from him, even if I can't find the time to take the car to Suffolk to see him :-)
  5. OK, I've been having all kinds of fun trying to find out the answer to this. The dealer doesn't know, or won't tell me. I've searched the forum but can't find a definitive answer. :( Can anyone tell me what part numbers I need to purchase to retro-fit cruise control on my 2002 Octy vRS WRC? Some posts I've read seem to suggest I just need the stalk, some say I need a stalk and a loom. Which is it? Help me.
  6. I suspect that the no headlamp protectors rule is boll*x anyway. For a start, the Xenon lights themselves have a polycarbonate lens. How another layer of polycarbonate a bit further away, with an air gap in between, slanted upwards so air would naturally force its way through whilst driving, could be a problem I don't know. Suffice to say, I have a rather nice pair of vRS badged protectors on my Octy and they haven't melted yet. I further believe that this no-no rule is due to the headlamp washers. IIRC, any car fitted with Xenon lights must by law also have headlamp washers as dirty lenses diffuse the Xenon light very easily, causing dazzling to other drivers. If you stick headlamp protectors on I guess this would interfere with the washer operation. That said, I'm not taking mine off, we'll see if they melt. Dan
  7. Just a quick thought... Anyone know if it's possible to use one of the VAG three button remotes with the Octy vRS and get the remote boot release button functioning? I was just thinking it'd be kinda handy. Obviously you'd need a solenoid to pop the boot, but is there the functionality in place to add one already built into the locking system? Didn't know if this might be something that could be switched on using VAG-COM or whether it's impossible. Any thoughts?
  8. Most likely' date=' unless you or any previous owner happens to have casually mislaid something like a DTA48 mappable ECU under your bonnet. Watch out for overtaking milk floats, Reliant Rialtos, Saxos, Novas, Escorts etc etc.
  9. That's handy. My parents live in Butterknowle, near Bishop, so maybe we can sort something out near them? I'm pretty much free any evening or weekend, just drop me a pm and we'll sort out our own mini-meet... anyone else welcome...
  10. Well spotted mate! You're dead right, it was on the forecourt until Friday ;-) Now it's in my driveway. Occasionally. When I can bear to get out Yeah, a meet for a pint and a pie sounds good to me. I live in Easington Lane, moved up from Suffolk last March (2003) so always up for meeting new people Cheers Dan
  11. Thanks for the advice mate... I did try to do this, but there's no code on the can itself and the little lad behind the counter wouldn't have known a paint code if it had danced naked in front of him singing 'I'm a paint code, love me, love me, I'll make it all OK for you my darling' :( Hence the question here, before I resort to actually picking up the phone to a paint supplier.
  12. Anyone know if the Skoda Candy White (as used on the Octavia vRS WRC) is the same as Volkswagen Candy White  Local Hellfrauds only have VW Candy White, it looks the same but I'm hoping someone might know for definite Cheers Dan
  13. Not quick enough. Yet, anyway. But to be honest I wasn't looking for silly quick, been there, done that. Just wanted something practical and pokey enough to have a bit of fun. Other forum wasn't Puntosports or RCYG was it?
  14. :balloons:  :trampolin :cool2: :bttt: WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you haven't guessed, I've got the car!!!
  15. Rest assured MonkeyHanger, it will be... Details of security will, obviously not be shouted out loud but there'll be plenty. And Mr 7 Iron for backup
  16. Thanks for the votes of confidence, people... It's nice to be in the position of a) Knowing I've bought a car that's actually pretty good for once Knowing I won't get bored five minutes after I get it home c) Knowing other people are looking at it and saying 'I want that' Cheers for the positive input though, honestly. I'm actually pretty chuffed, as you might have guessed
  17. LOL... Just can't wait to see how it looks on the driveway It seems to just get better every time I see it
  18. And speaking of pics, will be taking some of the new motor tonight when I drop off my insurance certificate to the dealers... Wonder if anyone's gonna wanna see em?
