  1. well actually i was talking to perchy .... you vrs owners cant expect to be the centre of attention all the time you know props to you GeorgeL for giving me the idea tho....
  2. i guess i must just have a special touch, because i've had it off a couple of times and broken nothing. you do feel like getting all caveman with it and wrenching it off, but provided you know where the clips are, a little firm pressure works wonders.
  3. maybe if ALL the chrome was dropped it would look ok kinda sorta maybe. at the moment it just looks like a nasty blinged out parody of a skoda.
  4. hey there's a plan ... we could do a timeshare on your wheels and my engine so we both have the full experience at least part of the time ........ no wait ... the carriage costs would be awful, and the royal mail would probably "lose" the engine or the wheels .....
  5. 150mph out of a 1.9pd ? nope, not a chance. Mine has a stage 1 remap and runs on miller ds4 and i'd be surprised if it could manage anything over stock mostly due to the gearing. besides, why would you want to drive at that speed? it's incredibly stressful on both you and the car, and will hammer your fuel economy and make the likelihood you'll have an accident much greater.
  6. heh ... i know what you mean pal i went the other way and got the map done first and now i have no spare cash to get nice wheels etc so mine is a bog standard classic with crap wheeltrims that just so happens to go like a scalded cat
  7. see.... a man with taste, and i'm loving the capt picard pics pmsl.
  8. perchy .... i noticed the chrome tails on your exhaust ... did you chop off the turn downs at the end to fit these ?
  9. definite fragrance of bullsh1t there pal.....
  10. thats the nice thing about opinions ... everyone is allowed one i think sometimes less is more ..... if you want a vRS, then go buy one, if you want a well executed standard car, do something like this. mind you ... if i owned this, i'd have privacy glass and maybe the rub strips sprayed silver.
  11. so you are suggesting that my car is getting less faulty ...cool if that's the case, perhaps by the time it's 4yo the pd engine wont sound like a bag of spanners, the suspension will be smooth, and actually absorb stuff and the road noise will be so unobtrusive that i wont consider drilling out my own eardrums just for some peace and quiet
  12. ok ..... i've owned the car for 3 years and i cant say i've ever seen it do that before. I suppose you learn something new every day. thanks.
  13. i'm just one of those p1ss p00r lesser beings with a sh1tty classic and no maxidot. when you adjust the right mirror inwards the left does the same ... i'm thinking there is a short in the switch ... anybody got any experience of this ?
  14. imo a well presented "normal" octavia. like the wheels (would probably look ace on mine) and i think a spoiler would ruin it. it's not a vrs, so why would you want it to look like one ?
  15. evening all...... i just discovered that when i try to adjust my right electric mirror, the left adjusts too, both horizontally and vertically. If i adjust the left, it moves on it's own. I'm guessing the switch is fubar and that the door card is going to have to come out to replace it. Anybody got any thoughts on the matter ?
  16. i had 2 white Toyota's .... you will be washing it E V E R Y day ..... but who cares. go for the white
  17. modern engines dont really require the same running in period that cars back in the day did, but i would suggest that for the first few thousand miles you drive smoothly, avoid revving the engine too hard, and be kind to the brakes. It might be tempting to leave the dealer with smoke pouring out of the tyres, going sideways, but if you want your car to have the best start in life, feed it breast milk .... oh, um, thats for a different forum i meant treat it sympathetically and get it serviced when it's due. enjoy your new car
  18. check the spare wheel too ..... i found the retaining clamp on mine was a bit loose and it was vibrating a bit over bad ground.
  19. dammit... i was gonna offer £250 including carriage and personal fitting seriously tho .. i'd love em, but more money than i could afford!
  20. i had a friend who was so light on her brakes that the outer edges of the disk had actually started corroding badly and and her brakes were terrible. I took the car out and gave it a few miles of decent heavy braking which improved the stopping power considerably but she still ended up having to replace both discs and pads because they were IMO dangerous.
  21. looks like you could open the 12v plug and with a bit of soldering work make it much shorter.
  22. It would be helpful if you could let us know whether it's a petrol or diesel, what size of engine etc
  23. lol ...... i was thinking a beer fridge might be good, but apparently it's illegal to drink and drive, or so i was told by that helpful policeman who stopped me for drifting down the chilled aisles in sainsburys on my sons electric toy car while consuming a sixpack of tennents super.
