  1. We are going to upgrade our sons PC for his birthday but unsure what to get, I was thinking of an AMD FX8320 which is an 8 core chip but then some reviews on the web say that the AMD fx 63 series would be better but this is a 6 core chip. The PC is used for games such as Skyrim and at the moment he is running an AMD athlon quad core chip. Any ideas would be great as there seems to be so much competition in this market - Im happy with my old duel core but that's me. Thanks everyone.
  2. I think anyone who is officially made bankrupt through a court ect would know but I suppose that's why they have to check, Just couldn't understand why its just me that has to have one, either way it doesn't matter to me.
  3. OMG cant believe people would be like this, I overheard someone in Asda the other day talking to her friend and she was saying she has applied for this and that and sent out lots of CV`s only for her friend to ask "what's a CV"
  4. So that's why they do a bankruptcy check then, I was thinking it might of been that if you are bankrupt you are not entitled to any inheritance - I'm not bankrupt though. As for solicitors fees they are very expensive, Mind you it does cost them a lot of money for their fancy letter headed paper
  5. I recently lost my aunt around a month ago and had a phone call from a solicitor asking if I could supply them with my ID and my dads death certificate, Long story short my late aunt made a will with this solicitor and my father was named as the main executor and beneficiary and the was solicitor named in her will as the second executor to deal with her estate as my father was no longer alive that's why they wanted my fathers death certificate so they could take over as the main executor. They also said that her will listed me as a beneficiary and also my father who was the main beneficiary so they took a copy of my ID and said they needed to carry out a bankruptcy check on me and asked if this would be ok. I am not bankrupt but just puzzled why they needed to do such a check on me and nobody else listed needs to have one, I'm not concerned just thought it strange that they would need to do such a check. They did say that as my father is not alive his share automatically goes to me as his only living next of kin. My aunt didn't have any property as she had sold her cottage before becoming terminally ill and had savings and rented her house. The solicitor is charging £110 per hour that they work on the estate, £15 to speak to you on the phone and £45 for each letter they send out, Nice earner for them. So if they spend 30 minutes on hold to BT to close her account with them that's £55...shocking.
  6. I know what you mean, Just thankful she wasn't driving nearer otherwise it would of been worse and then if it had happened a second sooner our door would of hit the front of hers and took our door off. She was fed up though but seemed to be ok when we offered to pay for the damage. I checked her car and there was no bodywork/paint damage and took a picture of both mine and her car. Ours amazingly hasn't got a scratch. Made a hell of a noise though when it happened - The missus told our son to wait but kids these days don't seem to listen - nightmare.
  7. Got it sorted new battery and alternator so least that one thing done, But then dropping our child off at school and what happens they open the door and the wind too the door and bang took some lady's trim of her passenger wing mirror. So I told her to get 2 quotes and I will pay for the damage luckily there was no bodywork damage on mine and the other car and her wing mirror wasn't smashed so it was just the trim but it will have to be sprayed to match the colour of the car. When I offered to pay for the damage she said "are you sure" it wasn't her fault bless her, anyway our child got a right good bol&*king before school  What a start to the day its been.
  8. Just borrowed another meter from brother in law and tested again and got similar readings this time the voltage was 19.5 Volts while running 15.1 volts when car is off and not running 12.3 volts momentarily while cranking This was the 3rd meter used and I am just glad nothing has been fried - why so high voltage if the voltage regulator has gone wouldnt it be putting out less voltage as opposed to more - Looks like a trip to the garage tomorrow then.
  9. Bit of a strange one in the mornings the car sounds a bit slow on the first 2 turns then speeds up and starts, I thought battery is on the way out but when I test the battery I am getting the following readings which are to high... Car not running voltage shows as 17.2 Volts. When car is is started\cranked over voltage drops momentarily to 13.2 Volts then jumps up-to 21.3 Volts. When car is idling the battery voltage is showing as 21.3 Volts. I thought these are to high and that the cranking voltage should not drop below 9.5 Volts and on idling should be around 14.4 Volts (not the 21.3 Volts that I am getting. I have used two different multi-meters and both are giving the same readings. I am worried that this could be something else as if the battery was on its way wouldn't it be showing less voltage readings and not high ones I am getting, just wondered if any one has any suggestions as I didn't want to fit a new battery if its not this that's the issue. Thanks everyone The car is a 1.3 petrol Toyota Corolla.
  10. What made you ditch them - I have heard that the new Kaspersky and Norton take quite a bit of computer resources which is never a good thing.
  11. I'm with virgin media and they are changing their free internet security software from Trend Micro to F Secure internet security they are providing 12 months free then after 12 months it will cost £49.95 for upto 3 machines. Just wondered if anyone on the forums had any experience of F Secure and their security packages, The Trend Micro security that Virgin was using is not compatible with Windows 8 so they have had no option but to change it. Personally I have never heard of F Secure but also thinking if its £50 and they are providing it for free for 12 months then it must be half decent, Just wondered what the opinions are of the Briskodians out there.
  12. Its just over 2 years old one of the drives was dated April 2007 and the 500gb drive was from my brother in laws sky+ box which to be honest I shouldn't of used it for a PC but you learn by your mistakes. The 1TB drive came from amazon and I am now all up and running again, just had to re-install quite a bit of stuff.
  13. Sale of goods act should give you 6 years in terms of being fit for purpose. Ok after 3 years of heavy use I would expect the motor brushes will be shot and need replacing. We have a Bosch washing machine which we got from the comet auction site 2 years ago for £210 the in store price was £549 and this one has a non sealed tub so if ever the bearings went you could split the drum and fit new ones. So far its been ok - Washing machines now mainly have a sealed drum so if ever the bearings were to fail it wouldn't be cost effective to repair so I would look at all these scenarios. Mile are good but very expensive.
  14. Must be so unlucky at the moment I have 3 drives im my machine and one of them started clunking so i backed this up while I could and it started crashing out my PC I couldnt get to scrub the data so threw it out. I thought least its not my main drive then my PC hangs and on restart the main drive is clunking and dead. I have just ordered a new one from Amazon and have a disc image backed up from June this year but there is some stuff that I would of liked to recover. Is there a way to recover what I need from this dead drive its a 500 GB drive but I have songs on it from my late father singing that I would like to get back, I uploaded some to the cloud but not all of them. Bloody hard drives, I wish the solid state drives would come down as these have no moving parts and would (I expect) to be more reliable. Both drives were under 6 years old and the main drive didn't even give me any warning :(
  15. I have moved from Android onto Windows Phone I got a Nokia Lumia and the camera is better on this than my previous Sony Xperia Z which had a 13m Camera. I have also found the operating system to be more stable and run smoother than what I had experienced whilst on Android and now that Microsoft have bought Nokia they now own the hardware and software platforms which is a good thing. People say Nokia made a bad move going with Windows Phone but I would disagree as it is very nice and easy to use, the screen on mine is so sensitive you can use it with gloves on plus with Microsoft's billions it has the resources to push and develop it further.
  16. Well I went for the Nokia Windows Phone, and I am amazed at the quality of the camera it has a pro cam app that makes taking pictures better as you can manually adjust settings and its great in low light, It is much better than my Sony Xperia Z camera and that was a 13m camera compared to the lumias 8.7m. I am glad I didn't go with the blackberry as it does look like they are struggling at the moment. The only thing I have noticed is that each photo seems to be around 5mb in size which I thought was on the large size but then again the quality is brilliant. Looked on line and there is a lot of slating going on about Nokia saying this time in 5 years Nokia will not be around which I don't think is the case, The operating system is much more smoother than what I have experienced with android and now Microsoft have bought Nokia they now own the hardware and software side of things, bit like Apple and IOS their system is specifically made for their hardware. All in all very pleased - Thanks.
  17. Got a call back to say they have double checked and a Maintenance grant is not classed as household income as he is not allowed to claim anything else in terms of benefits in his name as this maintenance grant has been paid to him which is understandable. If he was getting tax credit or something else in his name it would be counted but as he isn't it is disallowed. Cant believe it took someone high up to work it all out but least its sorted now,
  18. They are planning to deliver just 3 times a week...least that's an excuse to say we haven't received a certain bill. If prices do rise a lot maybe this will cut down on all the junk mail we get.
  19. Well I spoke to someone high up and they seem to think it should not be counted but are going to check and call me back later today - They also said council tax would not apply to full time students and that I shouldn't of been told it should apply. They then said its because of so many government changes taking place it can cause wrong information to be given - Not good really. Will keep you posted.
  20. Thanks - They have received the following proof... Letter from the university/college to state full time status and hours and dates. All the letters from Student Finance England with full breakdown of the grant award and the payment dates. Tax credit letters from HM revenue & customs I will phone them again later and ask to speak to a supervisor or something and see what they say - Probably the same, just wish they would hurry up and write to us then I would know what's what. Thanks again.
  21. All this because we are on a low income at the moment and get some help and they want us to take money from our childs grant to pay towards the rent and council tax. He is claiming nothing and doesnt even get help with perscription costs and dental treatment. Maybe he should of gone on jobseekers instead of getting good grades for the 2 years he has been at college to gain his place to do his degree.
  22. It is from student finance England and it is called a Student Maintenance grant to help with travel costs, revision books and essential living costs it does not need to be paid back. He also has tuition fee loan which is being paid direct to the university, This tuition fee loan has to be paid back once he is earning a wage. What annoys me is this government are moaning that this country has a lack of skills compared to other countries and yet they say they want to help people gain skills to better themselves but yet this issue if it turns out to be right is going to make it difficult for him financially. Basically they are saying we may loose our help for council tax and rent because of this maintenance grant as they say its classed as a wage/income. They also said that they even take crisis loans as income and although I don't have one this sounds outrageous. I mentioned this to citizens advice and they said that the crisis loan thing was certainly untrue but it could be a case of the people I spoke to were not up to speed on rules and legislation. However the council told me if he was doing nothing! and getting jobseekers allowance than nothing would be affected! which is unbelievable.
