  1. It's possible, I am no expert you understand, that the fuel system is 'toast' , kaput, no good. If I understand you right , you have a Derv ,you a cidently fuelled with Petrol, you would've be the first to have done it, I confess I have. I too accidently put petrol in a Derv. In my older mk 2, I realized very quickly that I had , immediately switched to Diesel filled to the brim. The problem here is the derv fuel system works on a very high pressure system, petrol will ruin it, as soon as you attempt to start the car, even before the engine is turned over, the high pressure system is running. So driving a short distance with petrol, is going to wreck the fuel system. I got lucky I realized my mistake, they say if you mis fuel, don't even attempt to run the engine, have the system drained ,cleaned, and refilled, myself I drove less than 1 km to a friend's house, and asked what to to do, fortunately the old 1.9 PD is a tough old engine, ,....because only put a few litres of petrol I. ,I diluted it with another 55 of Derv, friend said it might run rough, but keep filling it up, it might be ok. That's what happened in the end , it was containimated but it ran fine ,untill I sold it on at 100, ooo miles on the clock. So , I believe that's the case with you, the injectors and high pressure system derv pump is no good, had you dropped and cleaned the tank, you might have be Ok , your 5 km just might have been to much on a tankfull of petrol.
  2. As a consumer, the repair costs are not my problem, if the problem is a known fault or design flaw, or there was an inherent unseen problem, the Consumer rights act 2015 is there to protect consumers. As I am finding out with a unrelated problem with my CRA 2015 Claim on my motor scooter, if the consumer has had servicing carried out in compliance with t&C's ,and can show it hasn't been caused through abuse & neglect, then it's reasonable, in my view, to ask the trader to recompense, in the OP's case the gearbox failed with low mileage, in my case ,the scooter failed at 4,000 miles, on a 2 yr old bike, my case is currently waiting to be heard, after some quiet blatant prevarication from the trader, I 've lost patience with them, and now waiting for them to be ordered to settle. Ultimately,it's far easier all round, if traders accept their obligations, it will cost them less in the end
  3. I wouldn't feel bad about, any trader worth the salt, will factor these problems in, and offer exemplary service. If they want the customer to cross the threshold. And yes, VW Group ought to have sorted this problem out, it isn't, just a Skoda problem. It's group wide , I should think there is a kick back from VW group to the traders to compensate, otherwise they will not have dealer networks to sell cars.
  4. To have any chance of getting redress you may need to resort to legal action, the Consumer rights act 2015, covers this, any item be it sn egg whisk to cars. In your case a recent low milage used car is covered by this, but your car was registered in 2018 if I understand right, The CRA 2O15, Stipulated that it is a reasonable expectation for any goods, In your case a used car is expected to last for 6 yrs i.e. be of merchantable quality, and fit for purpose. If within 6 months of purchase it fails ,then you have a right to have it repaired, replaced or a refund, without YOU having to prove anything. If it fails after 6 months of purchase then it's I cum ent upon you showing proof as to why it failed, which means you have to find an independent expert to examine it and say what the fault is. In your case, it's a border line case. My advice is seek advice from Citizens advice bureau, if they say you have a point, then seek a solicitor to seek redress. First action is make a formal complaint in writing, explaining what is wrong, what you are expecting to happen to redress it, then if they will not accept or agree, then commission a legal to seek an outcome. I am currently in a dispute for a failed scooter, which is likely to be a long drawn out process, I bought it as a low mileage bike, the engine failed within 4 months 800 miles of use, the scooter was about 2 yrs old. ,but I expect to recover the majority of the expense from the trader. Do not be fobbed off, be persistent, your claim is with the trader and not Skoda UK, You may have to take it to the Small claims track at county court to get the matter settled, it will take time, but the Consumer rights act is strongly in your favour. But you must make a formal complaint in writing ,setting out your position and what action you will take, if they do not want to discuss it. Ultimately it is that will get their attention, normally it's the threat of legal action that gives results. Be firm, be positive, take action.
  5. Currently going through the Consumer rights issue on a totally unrelated item, but the basic tennant's remain, the goods have to be fit for purpose, regardless of whether the item is new , unused or used pre- owned ,up to a period of 6 yrs from manufacture. In my case, it's a motor scooter, the engine seized at 4000 miles, it's a fault not discernable from a visual inspection from outside, so can be argued an inherent fault from the get go, defective parts or materials. Firstly, you need to contact the seller, for them to be given a chance to repair, replace or refund within 6 months of purchase, if you cannot get a resolution from the trader, contact the trade associations if the seller belongs to one and ask for a dispute resolution, from an independent arbitrator, if that doesn't sort the problem then it's a clear case of a small claims court, but this does mean the car has to be below a value, which may not apply in your situation. Before you do that, you must write a letter, stating of your intention to start a small claims case, this is a final last chance for the trader to act before you process a claim. The Citizens Advice Bureau can advise, if there is such an organisation in your area. But in essence you have a strong case be as long as you reported the facts to the seller within 6 months of purchase.
  6. Not a fault with the car as such, just the fates 'aving a giraffe' wiv you, Something like that happened to me with my specs, I knew I put them down, but couldn't find them, hard as you like, this was during the 'Panic' demic lockdown, so a new appointment and eye test was dubble trubble maxi bovver! Looking for a map, I found the B'stard things ,in plain sight ,in the drawer I had put them 3 months previous! When the omnipotent one wants to balls you about'She' sure knows how....
  7. Haven't refuelled for a while,normally I can get £ 55 worth of derv in , filled up recently £ 77 quids worth! Somehow I got another £20 into the same tank🤔!
  8. Without wanting to seem being xenophobic, DAMN German rat finks!
  9. Haven't used mine very much on the mk 3, the mk 2, yrs as better, but then again I liked things about the mk 2: better than the mk 3. May you burn me as a heretic ! An Essex man , from the land of burning witches!
  10. I go along with that, I preferred my Mk 2, but the mk 3 is far more economical. But I liked my mk 2 better, just felt more solid !
  11. Way too much,I had a bar supplied and fitted for about £400, including the electrics and coding, this was from a towbar specialist, for my more basic SE estate. Depends on what you want, but a lot of towbars are detachable or swan neck to accommodate reversing sensors. I have managed for most of my motoring career without them, so I don't miss the lack of one, By the way the reverse sensor still works, most of the time, even if the hitch is not the recommended Swan neck / detachable type , for what you need the bolt on will work just fine, I didn't need to have the bumper cut either, but your VRS might. For occasional use I have a Maypole bike rack that fitsto the hitch, using a adapter plate to fit it, as I tow trailers, it's suits my needs best, I can carry a bike ,and tow my boat trailer the same time. Perhaps that's why the bumper didn't need to be cut.
  12. Like that! But I don't see a 'frikin' sharks with laser's attached to the heads' one, but then again servicing such a gadget is going to cause more than a headache!
  13. ......sat in the traffic jam, I wondered what secret agent gadgets I could add to the redundant blank switching on the centre console, 7 buttons to use. Machine guns Lasers Ejector seat,( need a sunroof or panoramic glass, but I don't like them) Intercontinental Ballistic missile's? Anyone think of others, or your choice?
  14. This isn't be about cleaning the leather , more about resolving a scuffed leather cover, caught my wheel with a coat zip, it's scuffed it up, ,so that it feels rough to the touch, you can see the teeth marks on the cover. How best to resolve this, I do have some leather balsam I use to waterproof and feed my leather shoes to restore them , it works to some extant on the shoes, bit the cover is or should be smooth , how do I repair this. It just niggles me a bit.
  15. I always think of my Skud , as an Audi in a donkey jacket and gumboots, but I love it, it's the 2nd one I had. But I think the mk2 octy had the edge over the mk3, it just felt solid.
