  1. They run the tsi engines for around 16hrs in the factory(a simulated 1,000mile run in)

this doesn't mean that no running in is required but it does limit the damage that the owner can do if they decided to abuse the engine.

just be gently for the first 100 miles whilst you and the car get used to each other(ecu adjusts)

then drive it normally from that point.

The thing i have ALWAYS done is a running in serivce!!! i think an oil and filter change is crucial after 1000miles, the only reason VAG group don't recommend one anymore is too reduce the fleet/commercial running costs to make there vehicles more appealing to a company

TBH drive it how you want just get an oil/filter change after 1000miles

Is there any evidence of the artificial run in done on the engines and does this apply only to the vRS or all tsi engines??? I ask because my 1.2 tsi 85 should be here in a week or so. :-)

  2. Hi guys, I remembered reading this thread long before I had mine delivered, so it came handy now that I have these questions:

From what I have understood, since Skoda recommends Castroil and its also recommended by various members in here, the best oil to use - ideally - would be the Castrol Edge 5W40.

That is exactly this one: Castrol Edge 5w40

So today I was at the dealers as he had forgotten to provide me with the gift pack, ( 2 LT bottle of oil, spare bulbs and cleaning set), and to my surprise, I see the oil I was given was a "Shell Helix HX7 Diesel 5w30"

I asked hey is that ok? And he said don't worry it says DIESEL, its perfectly suitable for the car.

    Well my questions are:

    1) Is it sure this oil is ok for the vRS???

    2) I had in mind buying the Castrol Edge 5w40 and asking them to do the oil change using my own oil. In case I need to do a small fill-up until the scheduled oil-change at 7500 KM, should I use this Shell Helix Diesel? The Damn Castrol Edge is impossible to find around here (France). I don't think its a good idea to mix them.

    3) Also, I have never found the Castrol Edge 5w40 (Petrol, not Diesel) in any of the 5 different "car shops" that I have been to. Closest thing was Castrol Edge 5w40 Diesel. Would that be ok also?

There is also the Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 (not Diesel) available. http://www.shell.co.uk/home/content/gbr/products_services/on_the_road/oils_lubricants/shell_helix_tpkg/product_range_new/helix_ultra/ What should I choose between this and the Castrol Edge Diesel?

    Thank you in advance!

Should the dealer provide you with the oil, bulb gift set for every car or did you pay more for it? I'm picking my 1.2 tsi up in 2 weeks ish

  3. Thank you for that black. The wife still doesn't believe a 1.2 is enough for our estate as it is used as our family car. She has a ridiculously slow 60

hp 1.3 fiesta and I guess she thinks 1.2 is less than her 1.3. I have explained about more power and lots more torque than her car but she doesn't believe me. She'll come around though once she drives it... Hopefully :-)

  4. Ordered a Monte in week 13, 28th March. Quoted 26 weeks to delivery which should be week 39, 26th september.

It was built last week and is currently on the Wesser Highway on it's way to Grimsby. Due to dock at 01:30 tomorrow morning.

    Woo Hoo!!!

Do you have to call your dealer for that info or can you track it with your order number? Mine too was built week 35 so hope mine is on it's way too.

  5. WE do live in a relatively flat town and my commute is only 9 miles each way. I initially chose the tdi 80 cos the alternative was the htp 70... And though the petrol would have been cheaper to run, I wanted something that would shift as required (the diesel certainly does that). Now the petrol choice looks much more positive than the diesel on a cost front so it makes sense for usto go for the tsi over the tdi. Trouble is I easily achieve 60+ mpg but the wife drives differently and only manages low 50's. She's more of a boy racer than me lol. I just like the occasional boot every now and then to put a smile on my face.

  6. The thread wasn't really to compare petrol vs diesel as my order has already been placed. I was just looking for the experiences of current tsi owners so I know what to expect. I'm sure the diesel would achieve about 10 mpg more but I can accept the lower fuel economy figures due to the huge difference in list price. I am hoping that once run in the tsi will return appox 50 mpg but welcome any owners te comment on their mpg findings. :-)

  7. My order is already placed so I will be driving the tsi 85. I drove the tdi 90 and hoped for the pd boot up the backside but it wasn't there... And it is still soooo much noisier than the tsi. I expected the cr engine to be quieter than it was. Tsi was silent and a welcome change for my ears after a pd 80. Still can't square the 1400 quid difference between tsi 85 and tdi 90. A lot of money to recoup just on fuel (cos camchain cancels out the extra car tax cost) and my insurance quotes were a good 70 quid a year less for the tsi too.

  8. Thank you black for putting my mind at ease a fair bit. At first I thought you meant a speedo indicated 70 and was disappointed with your returns. I understood properly of the second read lol. The 1.4tdi usually returns 61 ish on 40 mile motorway runs at indicated 70. Don't suppose you have done a run at indicated 70 in your tsi to compare???

  9. My wife has a year old Elegance TSI 85 (listed as 85 on the V5C), which has now done 8800 and just had it's first service. Fuel wise around the 44 mark appears to be the regular fill to fil were getting with mainly rural road use. Not as yet had need to top up the oil, although I check if fairly regularly as I'm aware some owners have experienced high oil consumption with the 1.2TSI.

    TP

I am sorry to ask but by rural do you mean countryside (I.e hilly areas) or general town driving. I know my fuel economy won't be as good as in a diesel but I hoped to see an average around 48-50 ish. In 3 years of only covered 21500 miles so I couldn't justify spending a grand more on the tdi 90. Plus if we keep the car there is no cambelt change which covers the cost of the extra road tax for the tsi.

  10. My dealer has informed me that my new car is being built and should be driving it in 2 or 3 weeks, so the time to return my current 1.4tdi 80 is almost here. My current car averaged 60-61 mpg and has never needed a top up of oil over the 3 years I have owned it.

The question I ask to tsi 86 owners is what sort of fuel economy are you currently getting and has it drank much oil?
