  1. Where do you live? Iraq? I just renewed my insurance last week, I'm 28 with 7 years no claims and it was £335 quid with £100 excess and protected no claims and i live in Northern Ireland. have three points for speeding which i'm declaring. Right enough thats with my partner on it to which believe it or not brought the price down slightly.

    lol probably worse...im in kent

Not sure why its so expensive

I ran through the policy with zurich getting them to confirm all the details etc. they told me its insurance group 9 so thats why it is so high.

My previous car was insurance group 7

  2. I received my renewal through today from zurich. They have quoted me £750 for a year which is fully comp and includes nationwide breakdown recovery.

I am 30 years old and have no claims for 6 years. Have been driving since i was 18. Oh and i have 0 points on my licence

i phoned up zurich who i have been with for ten years and told them their renewal was a very high amount considering i'd got quotes from alliance and leicesterm priveledge, likewise insurance brokers for between £450-£550 a year.

The guy in the bombay call centre for Zurich ran through the policy with me and said well we offer 100,00 legal expenses and alliance and leic only offer 50k. he then told me to goto the zurich website and apply for a quote that way and that they would match that online price (bear in mind i'm already with zurich)

So i went onto zurich website and got a quote for £598 a year with £250XS. And one without protected No claims which was £540.

    is it worth protecting NCB?

anyone know if any of the companies ive mentioned above are anygood for service.

  3. imo(and this is just mine from limited experience) without a decent cold air feed properly setup to scoop up cold, dense air, an induction kit is pretty much useless. If warm air goes in you are actually losing power.

I used to run a k&n with the cold air feed and although it did come with the rubber scoop, the hose directed at the filter...it still ran pretty warm.

Then switched to a piper x viper(carbon fibre) and had a bell opening cut into my front lockwood grille, and had the hose connected up and into the opening of the filter. After about 2 hours o driving i'd open the bonnet touch the filter and found it was fairly cool to the touch. Which prooved with a decent setup, a supply of cold air could be maintained

you can also modify a heatsheild to fit over the induction kit to help with engine bay heat

  4. Picked up my fabia vrs recently and am quite happy with it. The service at Vindis was very poor.

I test drove the furby I eventually bought. It was great, no issues apart from the brake discs. I told the sales person they were worn down and I could tell this by the lip that had formed. The brakes would be checked I was advised. The tyres were in fairly ok condition with legal thread left and there wasn't any uneven wear.

When I picked up the car, I had a good look over it and was shocked to find the tyres looked very different to how they looked the week before...the ones on the car now were badly cracked on the sides and the thread was down to the wear indicators. the brake discs were slightly better...but still not that good. I think this dealer thought it could con me with this trick, as probably it is common practice. It was inspected by the service manager who then spoke to the sales assistant and they agreed to change 2 of the tyres that were really bad. They ended up having to take 2 wheels of another furby to put on mine. Wasn't too happy with that but seeing as the wheels were in good condition...was ok with it. lol...these were probably the same wheels i originally saw the week before.

Seeing as they'd put this car through an MOT and it passed i questioned the validity of the MOT if the tyres were badly worn!!! they said it had to be worn over 2/3 of the way which ok...maybe that is the case but still these tyres were not the ones I had seen and paid for when i tested it!! surely thats stealing isn't it?

the valet was ok. Nothing to write home about. They could have made a better job of cleaning the interior dash and wiping up the water marks on the outside. The car clearly belonged to a smoker or had someone smoke in it, as I could see small trace amounts of ash on the cig lighter.

further annoyed by them sticking a body work sticker on my car when i didnt want them too. Any ideas how to remove this carefully? they claim it is easy to peel off.

Looking over the service history...the first entry was done at 10,000 miles and was signed for by the general manager. It was hand written in as if inserted after the next service at 13k. very odd that.

Have to say though, that the saleswoman was brilliant! no problems with her! She'd only been there a few months but clearly was a cut above the rest

was let down badly by their service department and i think this issue is one which comes up quite a bit judging by the views on here.

the manager says they had been slated alot but had improved...i think they still have along way to go. It still bugs me alot that they tried stealing the tyres i paid for. What they did was also extremely dangerous as i had to drive over 100 miles to get home, so no thought there that if it rained, my grip on the road would be severely limited and my safety would be at risk.

  5. name and shame (or warn those drawn) so others can tread carefully ;)

The one bright thing was the sales person i delt with...she was really good. Its sad when the rest of the organisation marrs the overall picture.

Have had dealings with Ford and renault main dealers and their service department was much more proffessional.

  6. Picked up my fabia vrs recently and am quite happy with it. However had a few gripes with the main dealer I bought it from and wonder if this type of experience is pretty much uniform at any skoda, well established dealership....

  7. I've read through several oil recommendation posts using the search function, but still a bit confused, especially after reading my service documentation.

according to my fabia Vrs service book it is a Q60. Bit confused why it needs a designation like that?

looking over the cars history it was serviced last year but the option for variable service QG1 is unchecked(no tick against it). It was serviced 2 weeks ago by skoda and the option for QG1 has a tick against it

i intend to change the oil every 3-4 months because the more regular it is done, the better it is for any car. Would i need 505.01 VW approved oil at a viscoity of 5w 40? or something else? i kinda get the impression from skoda they dont want ppl changing the oil to often...lol

can someone plz give me some advice on this? is the fab vrs a PD engine??

    thanks

  8. i finally got around to buying a new car after months of research.I chose it over the toyota corolla T sport and although the TS sounded great and I enjoyed revving it past 6200 it didnt feel any quicker than the vrs from 0-60. After 60, it goes into its own as the t sport gets that extra boost from the high lift cam. Was a bit disapointed with the T sports seating position, although the controls layout was better imo than the vrs.

Had to sit down and think about it for a while, and decided on the vrs due to the better economy, cheap to repair usually, and i think its a more relaxed drive.

  9. What about the seat leon 1.8 20V cupra? i've seen prices for about 7-8k for ones that have done about 40k miles! and thats from a seat dealer. wow isnt that cheap? i could get insurance on this car as i checked, but whys it so cheap?

  10. One of those octys was standard and beat a one click or similarly modded fabia IIRC ;)

The point being that if the OP doesn't want to be overtaken on the m/ways (as stated in post #1) then the fabia VRS is not the car for that.

Was that a real 50 or a computer 50mpg? I am saying it wont get a real 50.

Anyway, just go drive the cars in question.. oh and realise that whatever you drive something faster *will* always exist and *will* overtake you if it wants to.

    hi thanks for all replys

truth is from my point of view I dont want to be over-taken on the motorway. At least as much as can be avoided.

I did look at the Mitsubishi turbo and even suzuki sport swift but they are very small 3 doors.

my only other car considered is the toyota corolla t sport 189bhp. Although not drivenyet but will in next couple of weeks along with the VRS.

  11. Hi, I'm new here and in fact I dont actually own a Skoda. I'm considering changing my car from a ford escort 1.6 zetec which has done me proud for 6 years now and covered 120k miles.

I've considered the Fabia Vrs as i'm told its a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing, has quite a bit of torque, is reliable, economical.

Can someone please tell me what the differences are between the post 2005 vrs and the 2003 model as i read somewhere there were two versions?

Also realistically how good is the vrs? i am sick of being overtaken on motorways and lacking power, and am after something thats going to be alot quicker than my current drive. Have heard a few mixed things about the vrs...some say the main power comes in a very small burst and after that its slow?

have also considered the subaru imprezza 2 litre RX, hatchback as drove one lastmonth and the handling was great, although its not that quick. Looked at the Corolla T sport 1.8 (180bhp approx) and Seat leon tdi 1.9 150bhp FR(2005 model) not driven those yet but used they seem good value at about9k
