I was close to buying a mk3 after reading some reviews of it. It does sound like Ford have continued with great setup cars. One review placed it above all the current hot hatches for the sheer fun of the lap.
And your ST would anhialate my 135 in the corners. And thats being generous to the 135!!
Every review is the same. Its not the sharpest or fastest of the top breed of hot hatches, but its the most fun and the best "Hot Hatch" for the road.

I cant see that being true. Ive driven the 135i and i thought it was spectacular!!

There are only two ways to identify the S2000.
The most obvious is the garish stickers, and the second is the look of sheer embarassment on the driver.
Ill get my coat

This happened to a friendof mine, his Cruise Control stalk started to play up big style soon after, before he replaced it for the fault never to re-occur
-
the VAG DSG is tried and tested now. When it first came out there were masses of issues. Id expect Renault will go through the same problems now they are mass producing a double clutch gearbox.

Steering goes VERY heavy when the PAS fails but it still goes round corners.
Mine was strill driveabl with the powersteering failed. I put around 1000 miles on it with the duff steering before selling it. It was fine to drive, albeit hard work, and a nightmare to park, but once moving it was acceptable. Just like driving a car before PAS came in.
-
Exactly right. I guess I have just tried to inject fun into my previous VAGs by adding loads of power etc to make them exciting

its a shame it was never 100% finished, especially after all the time and money put into it. The pistons i accepted, that was always a risk we were taking, so i dont factor that into my decision to sell. The final map i had on the car didnt misfire, it was really strong as well so that wasnt an issue, the voice in the back of thehead about reliability never helped but ultimately it was the power steering that did it for me. Such a shame as it was a really competent little bit of kit punching far and beyond where it should have. It was a joy at trackdays when people come up to you in pure shock at how you just cruised past them.
Still, im in a happy place with the new wagon. Its no record breaker but its just amazing fun to drive.

no there is power steering but its a real battle to get it round a corner.there is a knocking noise and its been in and out of the garage but they cant find it and its getting worse.
Mine started with a knocking noise when turning left. then the power steering just failed.
any dash warning lights?
As said before in other threads, my power steering failed but gave no warning lights or fault codes. Diagnostics showed nothing, the VAG procedures for fault diagnosis showed no faults, it stumped the master techs, hence why we (APR) wasted alot of money in replacing parts (TWICE to rule out faulty replacements) to no avail. Skoda's answer to it was if it wasnt the rack/pump or sensor, then it must be the ECU, but that doesnt explain why it knocked! It does explain why i got rid of it though lol
so the power steering still works... sounds like a tyre failure to me... could be delaminating....
id be shocked if that was the case and the OP would surely have looked at the tyres before starting this topic.
edit: Just read the OP again. 5mm tread on all tyres!

heavy steering as in no power steering?
My vRS's power steering failed, but even with 2 new Steering racks, 2 new power steering pumps and 2 new steering angle sensors it wasnt fixed. Had an Audi Master Tech looking into the fault and he gave up in the end as he just did not know what was wrong with it!!
-
Shocking time!!! Not even remotely reflective of what it could/should have done. It was only running the Loba and decat OEM downpipe then. The intake, WMI chassis mods and final BETA software made the car much much faster, just a shame the steering failed on it. If it had been fixed i would have took it ot the strip again before selling it, but ultimately i got so p!$$ed off with the issues i just sold it!!
-
think sy's car ran 13.9 before....
Mine ran a 14.002@ 105.6mph. That was on absolutely fooked stock tyres, with the massive misfire and limp mode issues that the car was suffering in the BETA test sofytware, and my best 0-60ft time was 2.8 seconds which was horrific.! Mine should have been 13.5 easily when you consider an acceptable FWD 60ft time would be around 2.2-2.3secs.
Gutted i never ran again with the suspension/semi slicks/lightweight alloys/brakes etc and the full blown stage 3 setup.

Sounds like a plan

You Are correct. Without software the emissions light will Flash up. Hence why I said stage 2 in the OP. No lights with software
-
Right guys. I have the original OEM downpipe in my garage which was opened up and De-Catted by Shark Performance. The only way for someone to tell the exhaust is de-catted would be to physically take it off and look at it, it also retains stock noise levels. The ultimate in stealth power IMO.
I want rid of it since i know longer own a car that this will fit.
This exhaust combined with a good remap will see 210-215Hp and 250lbft. Im after £115 incl postage and packaging. So potentially stock to stage 2 for less than £500!!
For those interested in the gains. This is the before/after curves for my car

mountune do some nice packaged upgrades.
...an they've recently released upgrade injectors capable of 350bhp
Only required for turbo upgrades. The Ford pproved Mountune setup is about £1400 for 275ps. That includes the software, intercooler and intake but you do keep the warranty
-
Awesome track. Whats been done to the Golf then? Seems to go through the bends well
-
Yeah the Mk3 gives massive torque when mapped. Stage 2 cars have been getting nearly 400lbft apparently!!
Handling wise, i came from a Mk2 Focus ST2 to the Octavaia vRS then Fabia vRS and finally onto this ST250. This new one trumps the lot for handling out of the box by a massive margin. But i agree, thisis so agile and pointy. Just puts a smile on your face.

Looking good there Sy,
I predict that it will be hard to stick at just a Stage 1 Mountune if you plan to keep tracking it
You'll give in eventually.
The thing is mate, the car is exciting to drive already. More so than my Fabia was even with all the chassis/engine mods I had on it. Yes the Fabia would have been quicker both around a track and on the road, but the ST is more exciting and fun to drive. With the VAGs they tend to be boring in comparison particularly when stock, hence why ive always looked to power to give that excitement. Im holding out on the remap front as im waiting to see what REVO come out with on the 2.0T Eco engine before i make my decision on software.
The car will be tweaked, but it wont be anywhere near as much as the last two setups Ive had.

Sounds like a plan to me. Will still look 100% OEM then as well.

Its an ST2. It has 3 setting for ESP. ON - Sport - OFF. I did most of the trackday with it set on Sport which allowed the tail to get really involved. The first vid where it rained i left it ON purely as i was still learning the car and i hadnt driven it in the wet at any speed before. After that little session i found the cra to be more than acceptable in Sport od in all the conditions. Not tried it in the off position yet though.

So, I knocked out a trackday on Sunday in the ST250. Must say, im mightily impressed with it. The previous cars Ive had have been prettyheavily modified and pretty competent on track. Much quicker than this car.
BUT
I was shocked at how much fun the ST250 was to drive on track. Despite it not having the best handling, traction, braking or straightline performance and being generally much less of a track tool than my previous cars it was just a hoot to drive. I think i might have found the first car that is practically perfect for me out of the box.
The turn in is great on the car, the back end is really lively, the steering feels great, traction was pretty good, especially considering it was 5oC outside and bizarrely despite me initially posting about how i missed the power of the previous two cars, not once did i want any more power at Knockhill, obviously ill still be looking at stage 1 though, that goes without saying ;-)
A few minor things i noticed which id say would be a worthwhile upgrade.
Brakes: I ran stock pads but with Motul RBF600 fluid and i cant say i was impressed with them at all. Defintie room for improvement.
Lower engine mount: Coming out of the hairpin resulted in a bit of wheel hop a fair few times so it would be nice to get rid of that.
LSD: At the John Weir Chicane i think the car would have really benefited alot from an LSD and out of the hairpin. Not an urgent requirement, but definitely something i will be considering.
Got a few videos before my battery ran out in the camera
As for Knockhill. I really enjoyed the circuit. Very uneven and bump, but the elevation changes and blind corners make for a really exciting trackday. Tricky circuit in the cold and damp though as grip wasnt especially good.. Definitely one of my favourite tracks. Not sure about the organisation though as they split the sessions into "equal" groups, yet my bone stock ST250 was in a class with 911s, Caymens, caged/slick clad track cars. Im pretty sure that people were just doing what ever group session they wanted lol.
Got a go in some pretty impressive machinery there as well from some of the local regulars.
Great day out and only £55 for a full day!!

you can always cancel out the additional weight with some lightweight alloys.....then some 2 piece discs......then

Ive driven both cars. Im sure it is to do with cost as well, but IMO the Mk5 brakes are definitely better just as the rest of the Mk5 is infinitely better than the Mk4 (dont tell him that though lol)
Supercharger Pulley Change?
in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Posted
APR looked into this and deemed it not worth the effort. As george has pointed out the supercharger is not engaged post 3500rpm. In fact when logging the supercharger parameters via VCDS its evident that the supercharger disengages below that more often than not. My car was fully disengaging by 2500rpm when running stage 2 Jabbasport software. Basically as soon as the ECU is happy the turbo is on boost the supercharger will disengage. The other issue we foresaw was that too much power low down would just make traction a nightmare.
The reason it works on the Mini Cooper S is that the supercharger operates for the full duration of the rev range therefore potential gains at the higher end of the rev range are very notable.
