  1. Thanks guys - I'll pass the info on. Looking at the examples on the web I think TaviaRS might be right and 6 points with a fine might be best he could hope for.

Re: the NIP we wondered as the car is a 'pool' vehicle whether the reason for the delay was that the notice had probably been bounced around via the lease car company first then our Facilities dept and finally to the user. Still, two months seems a long time to sit around in various in-trays.

  2. Thankully it didn't happen to me but a colleague has been photographed by an unmarked mobile speed camera doing 105 mph on the A66 (70mph section). It happened about 2 months ago but for one reason or the other he has only just received notification through the post.

Anyone got any experience from a legal point of view regarding the extent of sentence the court will dish out? I thought that anything over the ton was an automatic 3 month ban and/or a big fine. BTW he's been advised to seek legal representation..

    Cheers

  3. I don't know if anyone's interested but there's a GTi HOT HATCH SPECTACULAR event at York Dragway on the 27 July. I've never been to this event but happened along the other week to a run what you brung session.

It does sound a bit back to front baseball cap but it was quite a good laugh and there was lots of interesting machinery including a Mk1 Golf with 2 x VR6 motors (1 front, 1 back and both were supercharged I think) :)

    York Dragway - Fixtures

Anyway, I think I'll pop down and might even pay the fiver to pitch the vRS against something intersting on the strip.

Or maybe the event on the 22 June looks more interesting. Topless water babes will be there whatever that is ;)

  4. I've recently spoken to the dealer re: the armrest. He's meant to be getting back to me with a price / availability although I'm sure it won't be cheap. He did have some doubt whether Skoda actually do an armrest that's in a reasonable colour to complement the vRS interior - Black must be a popular choice:)

I did have a thought about nicking the armrest out of my wife's A4 but it's grey and will look cack. It might be worth seeing if Audi / VW do one that would fit. looks a universal fit.

  5. Duncan,

I still hanker after another one. My car was indeed in 'showroom shine' condition when I bought it - low mileage, 1 owner, FVAGSH etc etc.

After I'd nurtured the car for about 2 years Mrs Jimmy had a close encounter with an Arriva bus. The damage wasn't major (rear quarter panel, bumper, light etc) but the originality of the car was gone when repaired. Decided to sell it shortly after :( and have yet to find another...

  6. Here's me little list in no particular order:

1984 MG Metro - First Car

    1988 Ford Fiesta 950 Pop - Crap

1986 Vauxhall Astra GTE - The best thing was the Digital dashboard which you could change from MPH to KPH. Scaring mates doing an indicated 200 was a favourite pastime in those reckless early days. Car got nicked.

1988 Ford Escort 1.1 Popular - Never Again total heap.

1983 VW Golf GTI Mk1 - Totally brilliant car and even in standard tune would give the vRS a run for its money.

1989 VW Golf GTI 16v - Brilliant but valve stem oil seals went.

1989 Renault 5 GT Turbo - Great car but unreliable and expensive.

1992 VW Golf GTI 8 Valve - In Oak Green. Regret selling this little beauty.

1993 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4i Flair - Boring but reliable.

1994 Volvo 850 T-5 - Very Very good car and utterly reliable. Had a real tendency to munch front tyres at an alarming rate.

1996 Fiat Punto GT - Bought new and a lot of fun with 136bhp.

1990 BMW 325i Sport - Full 200 bhp Hartge H26 conversion and LSD. Great fun in the wet.

1996 Audi A4 - 1.8 SE with full leather. Still in posession but might soon need to sell as SWMBO wants something smaller. Any offers??

    2001 Octy vRS in Black.

Also had a number of sub

  7. Just a quick update. I've had the car back about 2 weeks now with no further issues. The dealer managed to put right the things on my list so I'm now a happy bunny. It's already been mentioned but really these things should have been put right before I picked the car up.

I'm really pleased with the vRS but I have noticed a major flaw which could sour the whole experience - Courtesy Cars!! When mine went in for the afternoon I was given a Brown, Felicia, Diesel Estate. I had to return to work with a bag over my head and park outside our neighbours office ;) ;)

Think I'll get a lift there and back when it's service time just in case.

  8. If for some reason the V5 is not at hand have a look in the service book on the inside cover (Octy anyway). The name, address and usually phone number of the first registered keeper is written in by the dealer. Re: the V5 I think the law has changed now so a dealer cannot sell a car without it but I might be wrong.

On the subject of hire cars. As a very regular user of such vehicles I would never entertain the prospect of buying one for myself.

  9. A colleague and me are having a long running debate as to the make and model of the car on the HP (I think) advert. It's the ad where the guy and his Mrs are in the showroom and he picks the colour of his new car. The salesman selects the colour from a pallette and the robot starts to paint the car. He first of all chooses red then black then red again.

Anyone know what the car is? I've got a grand riding on it

  10. John,

Thanks for the info. I don't have a separate fob for the alarm it's all driven from the main key fob.

I think I've got to the bottom of the alarm issue. In the meantime I've disconnected the rear hatch switch to extinguish the light on the dash. The alarm has not sounded at all since so think it should be ok.

  11. Just called the dealer and to be fair he was very apologetic and wanted to help. The switch for the rear hatch should be in on Wednesday so car will be taken in all day Thursday to fix the above problems.

The alarm is an aftermarket one I believe but I bought the car from the dealer with the alarm fitted so in my book he should fix it if there's a problem. I suspect however that the problems with the rear hatch switch are triggering the alarm but I'll see what Thursday brings.

I hope the issues I've got at the moment are minor teething troubles because the car is absolutely mint in all other respects and I want to keep it that way.

  12. Don't get me wrong I'm really pleased with my car but already there are a few things that have soured the relationship.

The car is a 51 plate and has 6k miles on the clock but after taking delivery I have noticed a few minor teething troubles:

    1. The rear hatch locking mechanism is US and needs replacing. Separate thread - dash light driving me crazy now disconnected.

    2. There was no sidelight bulb in the front n/s headlight. I have replaced myself. A car shouldn't be sent out like this surely??

    3. The alarm sounds about an hour after locking the car. Have overridden manually for the time being but very nervous about leaving without protection.

    4. The isolator for the rear elec windows is US and springs back up. No good with kids in the back.

A call to the dealer on friday and he has ordered some parts so should be sorted this week. Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come :( it's just annoying that I have to return the car to get these problems put right.

  13. Anybody recommend a good aftermarket Oval tailpipe / backbox to replace the standard set-up. Nothing too noisy but I can't hear the roar with the standard arrangment ;). Plus I think the std hexagonal tailpipe looks a bit cack.

Any pics idea of cost aswell would be appreciated.

  14. Hi Guys,

Even though all doors are fully closed on my Octavia the door open warning light remains illuminated. The dealer has diagnosed this as a faulty switch on the rear hatch locking mechanism and has ordered me a new one.

Unfortunately I won't be able to get it fixed for another couple of weeks at the earliest and it's driving me nuts. Is there a known fault and an easy fix I can do in the meantime??

I also think this is causing a 'fault' with the alarm system as the alarm has been triggered on a number of occasions. The only explanation I can give is that the dash light stays illuminated after locking for a period of time and when the light goes out the drop in voltage is triggering the system.

    Any help much appreciated.

  15. Quote was from E-Sure and done all on-line so was pretty convenient. Our other car is also insured with them.

I've bought the car from a dealer in Dumfries (west coast of Scotland). I work there during the week and noticed that they had a black one on the forecourt. Just signed the paperwork this morning and been for another blat down the A75 just to make sure you understand ;)

    Roll on Thursday......

  16. Hi Guys,

Just joined up and a soon to be an Octavia vRS owner. I'm off down the dealers tomorrow to take another spin and finalise some paperwork. Should have the car by the end of the week and cannot wait :)

Just one question and apologies if this has been discussed to death but what sort of insurance are you paying? I was pleasantly surprised with a quote of
