  1. ...I was meant to be coming to Dublin this autumn with my granddaughter, for her karate competition but due to the Covid business, classes/training and competitions have been put on hold! Big shame as we were expecting to bring home a medal/trophy or two! Never been there before, been to Hayle (Cornwall) many times and love the place.
  2. ...I have seen on youtube, owners removing the unit (This was a Dance unit but I would assume others will be similar), Open up the unit and the number is located somewhere inside. You may have to remove an internal plug or something, too but if the dealer will not help or wants to charge and you know your way around a bit of dismantling....

I think you found the answer, Wino but I was about to say that I have on occasions, had motorcycles running, whilst on the centre stand and the rear (Drive) wheel does have a tendency to rotate, albeit slowly and will stop at the slightest touch/resistance, then rotate again, if left to its own devises. So I guess its just "Normal" in this situation.
  4. Hi Geof, did not realise that was you! Did you ever get to the bottom of the fan running incident? I was just mentioning the fault on a different Skoda model here. I usually fit Bosch ones myself, as with oil, fuel and cabin filters. Just a preference. Cheap enough and delivered from carparts4less, with a code.
  5. There have been fan running issues on Briskoda before, regarding Fabia's. At least one of them was related (Or seemed to be) To wet weather and perhaps soaked plug sockets/electrics. I remember Mr Crow having an issue. Not sure if it got rectified but it may be worth a trawl. I would think Skoda may have used similar tech across the models and it was a similar age. Just a thought!
  6. ...The other side of the coin is, how can either you OR highways PROVE the damage was/was not caused by any given pot-hole, at any given time? If claiming compensation was simple and straight forward, they would be absolutely inundated with claims, ranging from slight wheel/tyre damage, to total write-offs being caused by a pot hole, within a certain distance of an incident. That is just people who THINK they are within their rights to claim. Then, there will be a multitude of trier-oner's who will chance their arm at getting a free fix to something they caused all by themselves. I damaged the underside of my sump once and needed a new sump pan, along with the necessary oil change, etc. This was due to raised iron works during a re-lay of a road surface. I most likely COULD have tried to claim for the cost of the repair, due to sing being a bit unclear but in reality, it was mostly down to the car I had at that time, being lowered and subsequently closer to the raised iron then it would normally have been. The average car would pass over with safety, if not being driven rashly. Nowadays, every other car on the road would have suffered the same damage is mine. At the end of the day, holes form, surfaces decay, roads need re-surfacing, etc. Unless there was a clear case of neglect, then you really don't have a claim! Sorry, but I think you have to take this on the chin and foot the bill, unless your insurance covers the damage. If it does, then the insurer may well want to look into a claim but its doubtful. I think you tried so you are not a quitter but now its time to grin and bear it. Try to look at the bigger picture... The ,ore claims the authorities pay out on, the less they have to actually fix things and so it will go on. I have actually heard that some authorities end up paying more on claims, then on repairs to roads and so more holes will be left and more claims will arise! This needs redressing somehow, sometime.
  7. I too, use the low ash/saps 507 on my Greenie. Not sure if you have a DPF or not but if you do, low ash/saps, fully synthetic IS necessary. In around 150,000 miles, I have yet to change the transmission oil. DO NOT go over the recommended oil-change schedule, for love or money! The engine and its components will not forgive you!

From stuff I've read and experienced, the low cost of a paper filter, from the usual (CP4L?ECP), etc, for under a tenner, changed regularly, will be better then forking out fifty-odd bear tokens for one that MAY just give an extra 2bhp, and need a professional cleaning every 50,000 miles, including cleaning fluid and then re-oiling, with special fluid. Over oil and you may send crap into the maf sensor etc so maybe not a good idea to the lazy owner. Just change the cheap paper one as often as possible, rather then every 40,000 miles or whatever the book says. A clean filter is like clean oil. Go up to the interval, fine- go over it, stupid. Change prior to needing to, cost a bit more but worth it if you can!
  9. ...Had similar looking nearside damage on a MK2 Fab around two years ago... I think the damage would have written off my car then, had it been known to cost £5K! That said, they had to replace the rear axle as it was damaged and I recon that was only spotted mid-way through the job. There was less damage to the rear hatch which to this day I don't know if they swapped or repaired. it had clean paintwork, though. The third party insurance paid for everything, including a hire car which costs them around £60 a day, for a dual control vehicle so they want to be efficient when it comes to repairing, once they start.
  10. As all is done and dusted now, very little you can do as recompense, the most you can do is keep a very close eye on the new replacement tyres over the coming months. I would assume the fitter had at least a basic look at the vehicle, to be sure nothing was rubbing or causing the issue. As for tracking,etc, go to a well trusted place that will use good quality last equipment. A good place will almost certainly offer a free check and only charge if they need to adjust the set-up. If it is out, it will only F.C.U.K the new tyres so it'll be worth the £60 or so quid!
  11. If there is no clear reason why two tyres had damage to the inner side of tread or to the inner sidewall, Have you thought about how/where you park or drive? Yu might find you reverse into a driveway, where yo scrape the inner walls, etc or somehow manage to damage the tyres thus! Another thing to think about... You may have damaged one side and at a later point, the wheels may have been removed and fitted on the oppose side, say during a service and then, the other tyre suffered the same fate. This would again suggest either a tracking issue or somewhere you "Hit" the tyres against regularly. (Payment mounting, raised driveway, etc).
  12. Vent covers will cost around a fiver, from Aliexpress with postage. I have often read though, that the sticky tape they supply is not really up to the task but this may partly be due to not wiping the surface of the vents, with an alcohol wipe first!
